Abstract
Using the organic base as the organic electron donors, the reductive coupling of diaryhalomethanes was smoothly achieved under transition-metal-free reaction conditions, giving a series of synthetically important tetraarylethylenes and tetraarylethanes in high yields. The mechanistic study revealed that the organic bases acting as the electron donor initiated the generation of a radical intermediate, realizing the construction of tetraarylethylene and tetraarylethane skeletons.

Flexible porous organic polymers constructed using C(sp 3)-C(sp 3) coupling reactions and their high methane-storage capacity. Chem Sci 2024; 15:10830-10837. Abstract
Carbon-carbon coupling is a basic design principle for the synthesis of porous organic polymers, which are widely used in gas adsorption/separation, photocatalysis, energy storage, etc. However, the C(sp3)-C(sp3) coupling reaction to construct porous organic polymers remains an important yet elusive objective due to its low reactivity and unknown side reactions. Herein, we report that nickel bis(1,5-cyclooctadiene) (Ni(COD)2), which was a famous catalyst for C(sp2)-C(sp2) coupling reactions, enables highly efficient C(sp3)-C(sp3) homo-coupling reactions to construct porous linear crystalline polymers and flexible three-dimensional porous aromatic frameworks (PAFs) under mild reaction conditions. The resulting linear polymers generated with dibromomethyl arenes have good crystallinity and high melting points (T m = 286 °C) due to controllability of reaction sites. Furthermore, the PAFs (PAF-64, PAF-65 and PAF-66) stemmed from tri-/tetra-bromomethyl arenes show high surface area (S BET = 390 m2 g-1) and high methane-storage capacity (up to 313 cm3 cm-3) because of their flexible frameworks. This work sheds new light on the construction of novel porous polymers through C(sp3)-C(sp3) coupling reactions and the development of methane-storage materials.

Abstract
An efficient heterogeneous catalytic system for the oxidative aminocarbonylation of alkynes and amines in the presence of CO/O2 to afford substituted propiolamides has been developed. The active nanocatalyst, [Pd/Mg3Al-LDH]-300(D), is composed by Pd nanoaggregates (2-3 nm average particle size) stabilized over a partially dehydrated [Mg3Al-LDH] matrix. The methodology has resulted widely applicable, being the first catalytic system, either homogeneous or heterogeneous, able to activate not only aliphatic amines but also poorly-nucleophilic aromatic amines. In fact, >60 substituted propiolamides have been synthesized in good to excellent isolated yields through this methodology, being 27 novel compounds. An important characterization effort (XRD, 27Al MAS NMR, TGA, TPD-CO2, BET area, XPS, HAADF-HRSTEM and HRTEM) and optimization of the synthesis conditions of the optimal catalyst has been performed. This study, together with a series of kinetic and mechanistic essays, indicates that the optimal catalyst is composed by Pd(0) species stabilized in a partially dehydrated/dehydroxylated LDH material with a Mg/Al molar ratio of 3 and a small crystallite size. All the experimental data indicates that the in situ formation of [PdI2] active species in the material surface together with the presence of a matrix with the optimal acid/base properties are key aspects of this process.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed coupling reactions that involve the direct functionalization of insert C-H bond represent one of the most efficient strategies for forming carbon-carbon bonds. Herein, a palladium-catalyzed intramolecular C-H bond arylation of triaryl phosphates is reported to access seven-membered cyclic biarylphosphonate targets. The reaction is achieved via a unique eight-membered palladacyclic intermediate and shows good functional group compatibility. Meanwhile, the product can be readily converted into other valuable phosphate compounds.

Abstract
In this study, we report the electrophilic cyclization of N,N-dimethyl-o-alkynylanilines with arylsiloxanes in the presence of [Pd(OAc)2] and Ag2O catalytic system, which leads to the efficient synthesis of indoles, similar to the one that is obtained through Larock indole synthesis. A range of aryl(trimethoxy)silanes with EDGs and EWGs were successfully utilized for the synthesis of a diverse variety of substituted indoles via the cleavage of the C-Si bond. This protocol exhibits good functional group tolerance and wide substrate scope to provide 2,3-diaryl-N-methylindoles in 26-88% yields.

Abstract
Silyl enol ethers were examined as a masked source of saturated ketones to derive β-aryl enones and their derivatives by dehydrosilylation to generate enones in situ and subsequent oxidative arylation with arylboronic acids as transmetallation coupling partners using relayed Pd(II) catalysis in one pot under base-free conditions. Oxygen was found to be an efficient and green oxidant to enable both dehydrosilylation of enol silanes and arylation. Additionally, arylation conditions can be custom-designed to take advantage of aryl halides as an alternative source of arylating agents. The preparative scope was investigated with 35 examples (up to 95% yield), and mechanistic studies implied a cationic Pd(II)-based catalytic system.

Abstract
The functionalization of sp3 carbons is deemed challenging in synthetic organic chemistry yet has tremendous potential in producing potent organic compounds. A facile synthesis of 2,4,5-trisubstituted oxazoles through an oxidative, copper-catalyzed, and solvent-free annulation is described. Various arylated oxazoles were efficaciously synthesized at a mild temperature from readily available substrates under a molecular oxygen atmosphere. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggested that the reaction proceeds via an anionic-type mechanism and indicated the formation of a keto-imine intermediate. The reaction is notable for the abstraction of six hydrogen atoms, the functionalization of one sp2 carbon and two sp3 carbons, and the formation of C-O and C-N bonds.

Abstract
Experimental 13C kinetic isotope effects (KIEs) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations are used to evaluate the mechanism and origin of enantioselectivity in the formal C(sp2)-H alkylative desymmetrization of cyclopentene-1,3-diones using nitroalkanes as the alkylating agent. An unusual combination of an inverse (∼0.980) and a normal (∼1.033) KIE is observed on the bond-forming carbon atoms of the cyclopentene-1,3-dione and nitroalkane, respectively. These data provide strong support for a mechanism involving reversible carbon-carbon bond formation followed by rate- and enantioselectivity-determining nitro group elimination. The theoretical free-energy profile and the predicted KIEs indicate that this elimination event occurs via an E1cB pathway. The origin of remote stereocontrol is evaluated by distortion-interaction and SAPT0 analyses of the E1cB transition states leading to both enantiomers.

Abstract
Techniques utilizing photo- and electrochemically induced reactions have been developed to accelerate organic processes. These techniques use light or electrical energy (electron transfer) as a direct energy source without using an initiator or reagent. Thiocyanates are found in biologically active and pharmacological compounds and can be converted into various functional groups. It is one of the most prominent organic scaffolds. Significant development in photo- and electro-chemically induced thiocyanation procedures has been made in recent years for the conception of carbon-sulfur bonds and synthesis of pharmaceutically important molecules. This review discusses different photo- and electro-chemically driven thiocyanation C(sp3)-SCN, C(sp2)-SCN, and C(sp)-SCN bond conception processes that may be useful to green organothiocyanate synthesis. Abstract
An efficient photo-redox route for the aryl-aryl self-coupling of aryl halides through a heterogeneous catalysis route has been demonstrated. Coordinatively unsaturated Ni 2 P surface with enhanced photochemical credentials upon hetero-structuring with δ-MnO 2 affects the organic transformation to biaryls with impressive yield and photo-conversion efficiency. Duel role of Ni 2 P catalyst with its participation as the catalytic active surface and the photo-redox centre distinguishes the organic transformation achieved herein with the other catalytic and photo-catalytic aryl-aryl self-coupling.

Abstract
The development of environmentally benign, inexpensive, and earth-abundant metal catalysts is desirable from both an ecological and economic standpoint. Certainly, in the past couple decades, iron has become a key player in the development of sustainable coupling chemistry and has become an indispensable tool in organic synthesis. Over the last ten years, organic chemistry has witnessed substantial improvements in efficient synthesis because of domino reactions. These protocols are more atom-economic, produce less waste, and demand less time compared to a classical stepwise reaction. Although iron-catalyzed domino reactions require a mindset that differs from the more routine noble-metal, homogenous iron catalysis they bear the chance to enable coupling reactions that rival that of noble-metal-catalysis. This review provides an overview of iron-catalyzed domino coupling reactions of π-systems. The classifications and reactivity paradigms examined should assist readers and provide guidance for the design of novel domino reactions.

Abstract
4-Hydroxydithiocoumarin is a valuable organic precursor to architect important heterocycles. The three different reactive nucleophilic sites in 4-hydroxydithiocoumarins display intriguing regioselectivity in their reaction towards various electrophiles. Previously, 4-hydroxydithiocoumarins have been used in the synthesis of heterocycles using Claisen and thio-Claisen reactions. Hetero-Diels-Alder reactions involving 4-hydroxydithiocoumarins have proven to be very convenient in assembling complex molecular organic frameworks from readily available feedstocks. Development of multicomponent reactions employing 4-hydroxydithiocoumarins has given rise to several important reaction protocols to access polycyclic compounds. Recently, this moiety has been used in forging some unusual S-S, S-N and S-O bonds under oxidative conditions which further explores its hidden reactivity in organic synthesis. Besides that, hydrothiolation of various alkynes and alkenes using 4-hydroxydithiocoumarins has led to the synthesis of some potential lead molecules. This mini-review provides an account of the reactivity pattern of 4-hydroxydithiocoumarins and their strategic applications in various reactions for the synthesis of several heterocycles and other important organic syntheses.

Abstract
Although palladium-catalyzed aryl-nitro bond activation reaction has recently gained a lot of interest, it still requires rather harsh conditions. We here systematically explore the substituent effect on oxidative addition steps, known as the rate-determining step, by density functional theory simulations based on a Nakao's nitrogen heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand. The key aryl ring on the catalyst, ring A, acts as a π-donor and stabilizes the palladium center of the transition state, and thus an electron-rich ring A is expected to lower the barrier. However, the polarization and electrostatic effects were shown to be more important, although they were often ignored before. These effects originate from through-space interaction with a nitro group in the resting state, and the overall effect is that any polarizable or partly negative group near ortho- or meta-site of ring A is harmful for the reaction. Based on these discoveries, we proposed a list of guidelines for successful ligand developments and designed several new ligands. These ligands exhibit a significantly lower barrier than the reported Nakao's ligand by as large as ∼5 kcal/mol, in both gas phase and solvent with a moderate dipole. These candidates will promote further experimental studies and enhance the ability to improve ligands in a rational and predictive manner.

Abstract
Redox driven C-C bond formation has gained recent attention over the traditional sequence of oxidative addition, insertion and reductive elimination reactions. In this regard, the transient radical mediated diverse reactivity profile of bis(heterocyclo)methanes (H-BHM: HL1-HL4) has been demonstrated as a function of varying metal ions and ligand backbones. It highlighted the following events: (a) redox induced homocoupling of deprotonated HL1 and HL4 on coordination to M(OAc)2 precursors (M = CuII, ZnII, PdII, AgI), including the effective role of molecular oxygen in the transformation process; (b) steric inhibition of C-C coupling of HL1 or HL4 on inserting the substituent at the bridged methylene centre (Ph in HL2 or CH3 in HL3); (c) competitive C-C coupling versus oxygenation of free HL1 with varying concentrations of PdII(OAc)2 as the ease of oxygenation over dimerisation of the deprotonated HL1 was corroborated by the DFT calculated lower activation barrier and greater thermodynamic stability of the former; and (d) redox non-innocence of BHMs on a coordinatively inert ruthenium platform, which in turn favored the involvement of a radical pathway for the aforestated coupling or oxygenation process. A combined structural, spectroscopic and DFT calculated transition state analysis demonstrated the mechanistic outline for the metal assisted oxidative coupling of BHMs.

Abstract
The construction of C(sp2)-X (X = B, N, O, Si, P, S, Se, etc.) bonds has drawn growing attention since heteroatomic compounds play a prominent role from biological to pharmaceutical sciences. The current study demonstrates the C(sp2)-S/Se and C(sp2)-N bond formation of one carbon of isocyanides with thiophenols or disulfides or diselenides and azazoles simultaneously. The reported findings could provide access to novel multiple isothioureas, especially hitherto rarely reported selenoureas. The protocol showed good atom-economy and step-economy with only hydrogen evolution and theoretical calculations accounted for the stereoselectivity of the products. Importantly, the electrochemical reaction could exclusively occur at the isocyano part regardless of the presence of susceptible radical acceptors, such as a broad range of arenes and alkynyl moieties, even alkenyl moieties.

Abstract
Reported herein is a mechanistic investigation into the palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative cross-coupling of sodium benzoates and chloroarenes. The reaction was found to be first-order in Pd. A minimal substituent effect was observed with respect to chloroarene, and the reaction was zero-order with respect to chloroarene. Palladium-mediated decarboxylation was assigned as the turnover-limiting step based on an Eyring plot and density functional theory computations. Catalyst performance was found to vary based on the electrophile, which is best explained by catalyst decomposition at Pd(0). The 1,5-cyclooctadiene (COD) ligand contained in the precatalyst CODPd(CH2TMS)2 (Pd1) was shown to be a beneficial additive. The bench-stable Buchwald complex XPhosPdG2 could be used with exogenous COD and 2-dicyclohexylphosphino-2',4',6'-triisopropylbiphenyl (XPhos) instead of complex Pd1. Adding exogenous XPhos significantly increased the catalyst turnover number and enhanced reproducibility.

Abstract
Decarboxylative coupling reactions using readily available (hetero)aryl carboxylic acids are a highly efficient approach for the formation of new C-C and C-X bonds. These decarboxylative coupling reactions eliminate CO2 as a by-product, resulting in a greener and environmentally more benign approach than conventional coupling reactions. In this review, we summarize the recent developments in ipso-decarboxylative C-X (X = O/N/halo/S/Se/P/CN) bond formations using (hetero)aryl carboxylic acids. Furthermore, we highlight the current limitations and future research opportunities of aryl-decarboxylative coupling reactions.

Abstract
A Rh(III)-catalyzed regioselective redox-neutral cascade process of carbenoid functionalization followed by dephosphonylative annulation of benzoic acids with α-diazo-β-keto phosphonate has been realized, which led to the direct synthesis of a privileged 3-substituted isocoumarin scaffold. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a complete redox neutral method to synthesize isocoumarins using C-H functionalization strategy. In the catalytic cycle of this reaction, there are two possible pathways for the C-C coupling between ortho-positioned carbon atom of benzoic acid and the diazo carbon atom: (i) concerted 1,2-aryl shift and (ii) stepwise metal-carbene formation followed by migratory insertion. DFT study has predicted that the concerted pathway has lower activation energy as compared to the stepwise pathway by 1.5 kcal/mol.

Abstract
A strategy for the formation of antimony-carbon bond was developed by nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling of halostibines. This method has been applied to the synthesis of various triaryl- and diarylalkylstibines from the corresponding cyclic and acyclic halostibines. This protocol showed a wide substrate scope (72 examples) and was compatible to a wide range of functional groups such as aldehyde, ketone, alkene, alkyne, haloarenes (F, Cl, Br, I), and heteroarenes. A successful synthesis of arylated stibine 3 a in a scale of 34.77 g demonstrates high synthetic potential of this transformation. The formed stibines (R3 Sb) were then used for the palladium-catalyzed carbon-carbon bond forming reaction with aryl boronic acids [R-B(OH)2 ], giving biaryls with high selectivity, even the structures of two organomoieties (R and R') are very similar. Plausible catalytic pathways were proposed based on control experiments.

Abstract
Plasmonic hybrid nanostructures have been investigated as attractive heterogeneous photocatalysts that can utilize sunlight to produce valuable chemicals. In particular, the efficient photoconversion of CO2 into a stable hydrocarbon with sunlight can be a promising strategy to achieve a sustainable human life on Earth. The next step for hydrocarbons once obtained from CO2 is the carbon–carbon coupling reactions to produce a valuable chemical for energy storage or fine chemicals. For these purposes, plasmonic nanomaterials have been widely investigated as a visible-light-induced photocatalyst to achieve increased efficiency of photochemical reactions with sunlight. In this review, we discuss recent achievements involving plasmonic hybrid photocatalysts that have been investigated for CO and CO2 photoreductions to form multi-carbon products and for C–C coupling reactions, such as the Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reactions.
