Abstract
Tubular structured composites have attracted great interest in catalysis research owing to their void-confinement effects. In this work, we synthesized a pair of hollow N-doped carbon microtubes (NCMTs) with Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) encapsulated inside NCMTs (Fe3O4@NCMTs) and supported outside NCMTs (NCMTs@Fe3O4) while keeping other structural features the same. The impact of structural effects on the catalytic activities was investigated by comparing a pair of hollow-structured nanocomposites. It was found that the Fe3O4@NCMTs possessed a higher peroxidase-like activity when compared with NCMTs@Fe3O4, demonstrating structural superiority of Fe3O4@NCMTs. Based on the excellent peroxidase-like catalytic activity and stability of Fe3O4@NCMTs, an ultra-sensitive colorimetric method was developed for the detection of H2O2 and GSH with detection limits of 0.15 μM and 0.49 μM, respectively, which has potential application value in biological sciences and biotechnology.

Abstract
Heteroatom doping is considered an effective way to enhance the catalytic activity of MoS2 nanosheets (NSs). In the paper, dual-metal doping was proposed to incorporate Fe and Co into hierarchical MoS2 ultrathin NSs, which grew directly on polypyrrole microtubes (Fe, Co-MoS2@PPy), for the enhanced enzyme-like catalytic reaction. The particular hollow tubular structure realized effective electron transfer. The doped Fe and Co tuned the electronic architecture of the MoS2 NSs to enhance the enzyme-like catalytic activity. The abundant exposed void spaces facilitated ion diffusion/penetration between the PPy interlayer and Fe-Co doped MoS2 shell, leading to heterostructured synergistic effects. Therefore, the synthesized Fe and Co-MoS2@PPy composites showed remarkable catalytic activity. The high catalytic efficiency of Fe and Co-MoS2@PPy was confirmed with the reaction of tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and H2O2 for visible detection. The blue color disappeared after adding glutathione (GSH). Thus, this procedure was used as a convenient way to detect GSH with a detection limit of 0.76 μM. The dual-metal-doped strategy was confirmed to improve the performance of MoS2 nanocomposites and could be used as a promising matrix for other applications, such as electrochemical energy conversion, medical diagnosis, and others.

Abstract
Due to the copper (Cu) active sites, its complexes with oxidase-like activity have superior catalytic properties, which can catalyze a series of specific substrates like 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), producing colorimetric reactions for the detection of different reducing small-molecule compounds. Attribute to the competitive coordination effects between water molecules and central Cu ions, most of the Cu complexes can hardly be used in the pure aqueous reaction system. In this study, a Cu-based material (Cu-imidazole-2-carboxaldehyde, Cu-ICA) was prepared using copper ions and ICA through a one-step process in the water solution. After the morphology of the material being characterized, the mimetic enzyme behavior of the Cu-ICA was demonstrated through the TMB oxidation. Compared to the other reported oxidase-like mimics, Cu-ICA has better aqueous stability and oxidase-like activity, and shows a higher vmax. Furthermore, basing on the oxidase-like activity of Cu-ICA, a colorimetric method was developed for the ascorbic acid and glutathione detections with linear ranges of 0.5-5 μM and 0.5-4 μM, and limit of detection of 0.1304 μM and 0.097 μM, respectively. Owing to its excellent aqueous stability and oxidase-like activity, Cu-ICA has bright application prospects in the analysis of reducing small-molecule compounds.

Abstract
Fe-N-C single-atom nanozymes readily achieved discriminative detection of glutathione (GSH) over other biothiols with similar structure due to the difference between POD-like and OXD-like activities regarding the kind of reactive oxygen species. This colorimetric sensor demonstrated the heterogeneity of GSH levels in different cells and accurately monitored cellular GSH fluctuation.

Abstract
The adjustment of cellular redox homeostasis is essential in when responding to environmental perturbations, and the mechanism by which cells distinguish between normal and oxidized states through sensors is also important. In this study, we found that acyl-protein thioesterase 1 (APT1) is a redox sensor. Under normal physiological conditions, APT1 exists as a monomer through S-glutathionylation at C20, C22 and C37, which inhibits its enzymatic activity. Under oxidative conditions, APT1 senses the oxidative signal and is tetramerized, which makes it functional. Tetrameric APT1 depalmitoylates S-acetylated NAC (NACsa), and NACsa relocates to the nucleus, increases the cellular glutathione/oxidized glutathione (GSH/GSSG) ratio through the upregulation of glyoxalase I expression, and resists oxidative stress. When oxidative stress is alleviated, APT1 is found in monomeric form. Here, we describe a mechanism through which APT1 mediates a fine-tuned and balanced intracellular redox system in plant defence responses to biotic and abiotic stresses and provide insights into the design of stress-resistant crops.

Abstract
As a promising cost-effective nanozyme, MoS2 nanosheets (NSs) have been considered as a good candidate for the enzyme-like catalysis. However, their catalytic activity is still restricted by the insufficient active sites and poor conductivity, and thus, the comprehensive performances are still unsatisfactory. To address these issues, herein, we design and fabricate an intelligent tubular nanostructure of hierarchical hollow nanotubes, which are assembled by NiSx/MoS2 NSs encapsulated into N-doped carbon microtubes (NiSx/MoS2@NCMTs). The N-doped carbon microtubes (NCMTs) serve as a conductive skeleton, integrating with NiSx/MoS2 NSs and ensuring their well-distribution, thereby maximally exposing more active sites. Additionally, the tube-like structure is favorable for increasing the mass transfusion to ensure their excellent catalytic performance. Profiting from their component and structural advantages, the obtained NiSx/MoS2@NCMTs exhibit a surprisingly enhanced enzyme-like activity. Based on these, a facile colorimetric sensing platform to detect H2O2 and GSH has been developed. This proposed approach can be expected to synthesize a series of tubular heterostructured MoS2-based composites, which will be widely applied in catalysis, energy storage, disease diagnosis, etc.

Abstract
Here, we propose a microfluidic paper-based analytical device (µPAD) implemented with a near-field communication (NFC) tag as a portable, simple and fast colorimetric method for glutathione (GSH) determination. The proposed method was based on the fact that Ag+ could oxidize 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) into oxidized blue TMB. Thus, the presence of GSH could cause the reduction of oxidized TMB, which resulted in a blue color fading. Based on this finding, we developed a method for the colorimetric determination of GSH using a smartphone. A µPAD implemented with the NFC tag allowed the harvesting of energy from a smartphone to activate the LED that allows the capture of a photograph of the µPAD by the smartphone. The integration between electronic interfaces into the hardware of digital image capture served as a means for quantitation. Importantly, this new method shows a low detection limit of 1.0 µM. Therefore, the most important features of this non-enzymatic method are high sensitivity and a simple, fast, portable and low-cost determination of GSH in just 20 min using a colorimetric signal.

Abstract
In this work, a new colorimetric method for the determination of Glutathione (GSH) on the basis of stable free radical 2,2,6,6 - tetramethylpiperidine - 1 - oxyl (TEMPO) oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzizine (TMB) via copper(II) acetylacetonate (Cu(acac)2) catalysis was proposed. TEMPO was catalyzed by Cu(acac)2 to produce TEMPO+, then TEMPO+ oxidized TMB to produce oxidized TMB (ox - TMB). The resulting ox - TMB showed blue and possessed a distinct absorption peak about 650 nm. Whereas, GSH prohibited the generation of ox - TMB through inhibiting TMB oxidation. As compared to the case that GSH was absent, significantly enhanced absorption was determined, and was proportional to GSH amount. On this basis, a qualitative and quantitative detection method of GSH with the naked eye and the microplate reader was achieved. The developed TEMPO - based method achieved GSH biosensing with improved sensitivity in a good specificity - manner. The limit of detection (LOD) was 90 μM via naked eye, and the microplate reader was 4.71 μM. And the stable free radical TEMPO possessed higher stability and lower toxicity than traditional oxidant of H2O2. Moreover, this TEMPO - based method achieved good results in the detection of GSH in human serums.

Abstract
Long-term use of norfloxacin (NOR) will cause NOR residues in foods and harm human bodies. The determination of NOR residues is important for guaranteeing food safety. In this study, a simple, selective, and label-free colorimetric chemosensor for in situ NOR detection was developed based on Fe3O4 magnetic molecularly imprinted nanoparticles (Fe3O4 MMIP NPs). The Fe3O4 MMIP NPs showed good peroxidase-like catalytic activity to 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and selective adsorption ability to NOR. The colorimetric chemosensor was constructed based on the Fe3O4 MMIP NPs-H2O2-TMB reaction system. The absorbance differences were proportional to the concentrations of NOR in the range of 10-300 ng/mL with a limit of detection at 9 ng/mL. The colorimetric chemosensor was successfully applied to detect NOR residue in milk. The recovery range was 78.2-95.81%, with a relative standard deviation of 2.1-9.88%. Together, the proposed colorimetric chemosensor provides a reliable strategy for the detection of NOR residues in foods.

Abstract
Single-atom nanozymes (SAzymes) as a new class of efficient nanozymes have attracted extensive research interest due to their high catalytic activity and specificity. However, it is challenging to develop a novel nanoenzyme with high activity, good stability and reproducibility. In this paper, the nitrogen and sulfur coordinated Fe-N/S-C SAzymes were synthesized using peanuts shells as carbon, nitrogen and sulfur source. It shows high oxidase-like activities due to the doping of S induced geometric and electronic effects, which is further confirmed by density functional theory calculations. The prepared Fe-N/S-C SAzymes with the remarkable oxidase-mimicking activity could oxidize TMB to blue oxTMB, but the GSH can inhibit the oxidation of TMB resulting in blue fading. However, when Hg2+ is added into above system, Hg2+-SH complexes are generated attributed to a high affinity between GSH and Hg2+, ultimately leading to blue recovery. Based on this phenomenon, we constructed a novel "on-off-on" colorimetric sensor for the simultaneous detection of GSH (off) and Hg2+ (on), and the signal is acquired by various modes such as naked eye, UV-Vis spectrometer and smartphone. The colorimetric detection mode based on a smartphone showed a good linear response from 10 to 80 μM for GSH with a detection limit of 3.92 μM, and for Hg2+ with a linear range of 1 nM-10 μM and LOD of 0.17 nM, which is more suitable for routine laboratory applications. More importantly, the proposed colorimetric sensor has been successfully applied to the detection of GSH and Hg2+ in real samples with good analytical performance. This work not only provides a simple and cost-effective method to detect GSH and Hg2+ but also makes a certain contribution to environmental protection.

Abstract
Glutathione (GSH) is an important antioxidant and free radical scavenger that converts harmful toxins into harmless substances and excretes them out of the body. In this paper, 3D hierarchical flower-like nanozyme named MnO2/PS (polystyrene) was successfully prepared by template method for the first time. After the systematical studies, MnO2/PS nanozyme was evaluated to possess favorable oxidase activity and direct 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) catalytic ability in the near-neutral environment at room temperature. With the addition of different concentrations of GSH, oxidized TMB can be reduced to TMB with the whole process from blue to nearly colorless be observed by naked eyes. In addition, there is a good linear relationship in the range 1-50 μM and a detection limit of 0.08 μM. The method proposed can be successfully applied to the detection of reduced GSH in tablets and injections with good selectivity and high sensitivity. The analysis results exhibited good consistency with the results obtained by HPLC.

Nanozyme based on CoFe 2O 4 modified with MoS 2 for colorimetric determination of cysteine and glutathione. Mikrochim Acta 2021; 188:65. Abstract
A nanozyme based on CoFe2O4 modified with MoS2 was constructed for colorimetric determination of cysteine (Cys) and glutathione (GSH). Firstly, ferrite CoFe2O4 is synthesized, and it is then modified by MoS2 to form a flower-like polymer (MoS2@CoFe2O4). In the presence of H2O2, a redox interaction takes place, and the resulting hydroxyl promoted a colorimetric conversion from colorless to blue in the presence of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). However, once Cys or GSH is added, they are capable to compete with the interaction of the hydroxyl with TMB, resulting in an inhibition of the colorimetric conversion. The colorimetric distinction is sensitive to the amount of target. The results obtained proved that the catalytic efficiency of MoS2@CoFe2O4 is 4.4-fold and 1.8-fold to that of MoS2 and CoFe2O4. Meanwhile, the Km values to TMB and H2O2 are 0.067 and 0.048 mM, respectively, which are 6.5-fold and 77-fold, respectively smaller than those of natural peroxidase such as HPR. This indicates that the MoS2@CoFe2O4 possesses a favorable interaction affinity. Additionally, the colorimetric distinction caused by the competition between TMB and cysteine or glutathione is obvious. The signal responses to cysteine and glutathione are linear in the range 0.5~15 μM and 0.5~35 μM, and the LODs are 0.10 and 0.21 μM, respectively. In practical assay of Cys in serum, the RSD of the sample tests is 4.6%, and the recoveries for the spiked assays are 95.3% and 96.0% with the RSD of 2.1% and 4.2%, respectively.

Abstract
A nanozyme for glutathione (GSH) detection in a broad concentration range was synthesized. GSH is usually detected up to an upper limit of 100 μM using current noble metal nanozymes due to the sharp decrease in the colorimetric response with the increasing GSH concentration. Strong inhibition of colorimetric reactions by GSH adsorbed onto noble metal based nanozymes in the form of non-porous, nanoscale particulate materials dispersed in an aqueous medium is the reason for the sharp decrease in the colorimetric response. In the present study, a new magnetic nanozyme synthesized by immobilization of Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) on magnetic, monodisperse porous silica microspheres (>5 μm) obtained by a "staged-shape templating sol-gel protocol" exhibited peroxidase-like activity up to a GSH concentration of 5000 μM. A more controlled linear decrease in the peroxidase-like activity with a lower slope with respect to that of similar nanozymes was observed with the increasing GSH concentration. The proposed design allowed the GSH detection in a broader concentration range depending on the adsorption of GSH onto the Au NPs immobilized on magnetic, monodisperse porous silica microspheres. A calibration plot allowing the detection of GSH in a broad concentration range up to 3300 μM was obtained using the magnetic nanozyme. The GSH concentration was also determined in human serum by elevating the upper detection range and adjusting the sensitivity of detection via controlling the nanozyme concentration.

Abstract
Artificial enzymes have drawn substantial research interest from the scientific community due to their advantages over natural enzymes. However, majority of artificial enzymes exhibit low affinity towards H2O2, which means that a high H2O2 concentration is needed for the oxidation of a substrate such as 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue-colored oxTMB. With this concern, Cu-CuFe2O4 was facilely synthesized, wherein, Cu0 accelerates the redox capacity of Cu-CuFe2O4 as well as the electron transfer between CuFe2O4 and H2O2. These materials induce excellent activity as a peroxidase. Cu-CuFe2O4 shows high affinity towards H2O2 with lower Michaelis-Menten constant (Km) than the reported values for ferrites and Horseradish enzyme (HRP). Moreover, it took only 5 min to detect hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and glutathione (GSH) through a colorimetric assay using Cu-CuFe2O4. Compared with CuFe2O4, the limit of detection (LOD) is about 90-fold lower for H2O2 using Cu-CuFe2O4. In addition, Cu-CuFe2O4 shows high stability as a nanozyme. Thus, the mechanism of the peroxidase-like nanozyme Cu-CuFe2O4 is proposed.

A novel selective and sensitive multinanozyme colorimetric method for glutathione detection by using an indamine polymer. Anal Chim Acta 2020; 1127:1-8. Abstract
A sensitive and selective novel multinanozyme colorimetric method for glutathione (GSH) detection was developed. MnO2-nanozymes can catalyze the oxidation reaction of 3, 3՛-diaminobenzidine (DAB) and produce a brown indamine polymer. In the presence of GSH, this reaction slowly proceeds. When Au-nanozymes was used as peroxidase mimic along with MnO2-nanozymes, the analytical signal and selectivity (particularly, over Cys and AA) were significantly improved for GSH detection. Therefore, this novel multinanozyme system was further developed through optimization for the colorimetric detection of GSH. The calibration curve presented two wide linear range from 0.05 to 0.19 and 0.19-11.35 mg L̶ 1 with a very low detection limit of 0.02 mg L̶ 1 (5 nM) for GSH. The developed method was employed for human serum analysis without any dilution and any deproteinization.

Abstract
As one of the transition metal dichalcogenide, CoSe2 has received much attention because of its superior physicochemical properties. In this work, a self-templated approach was proposed for constructing CoSe2 hollow microspheres by utilizing ZIF-67 hollow sphere as a template. In the followed selenylation process, selenium vapor reacts with cobalt ion in ZIF-67 to form CoSe2 microspheres. The obtained CoSe2 microspheres retain the cavity of the ZIF-67 and massive uniformly dispersed CoSe2 nanoparticles are embedded throughout carbon walls. The hollow interior and porous structure of CoSe2 microspheres provide an enhanced surface-volume ratio and short charge/mass transfer distance. The CoSe2 microspheres show a typical oxidase-like property able to promote 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) oxidation by dissolved oxygen to produce an intensive color reaction. Reactive oxygen species trials demonstrate that ·OH, 1O2 and O2•- radicals coexist in the TMB-CoSe2 system. Based on its inhibitive role, a rapid and ultrasensitive determination of glutathione was reached, showing four orders of magnitude linear range from 0.005 to 10 μM and a limit of detection of 4.62 nM (S/N = 3). The assay has been successfully used to glutathione determination in practical samples.

Abstract
An alarming increase in bacterial resistance towards various types of antibiotics makes it imperative to design alternate or combinational therapies to treat stubborn bacterial infections. In this perspective, emerging tools like nanozymes, nanomaterials with biological enzyme like characteristics, are being utilised to control infections caused by bacterial pathogens. Among several nanozymes used for antibacterial applications, Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NP) received great attention due to their effective peroxidase like activity. The pH dependent peroxidase activity of Fe3O4 NP results in generation of OH radical via the unique Fenton chemistry of iron. However, their pH dependent activity is restricted to acidic environment and dramatic loss in antibacterial activity is observed at near neutral pH. Here we describe a novel strategy to overcome the pH lacunae of citrate coated Fe3O4 NP by utilizing adenosine triphosphate disodium salt (ATP) as a synergistic agent to accelerate the OH radical production and restore its antibacterial activity over a wide range of pH. This synergistic combination (30 µg/mL Fe3O4 NP and 2.5 mM ATP) shows a high bactericidal activity against both gram positive (B. subtilis) and gram negative (E. coli) bacterial strains, in presence of H2O2, at neutral pH. The synergistic effect (Fe3O4 NP + ATP) is determined from the viability assessment and membrane damage studies and is further confirmed by comparing the concentration of generated OH radicals. Over all, this study illustrates ATP assisted and OH-mediated bactericidal activity of Fe3O4 nanozyme at near neutral pH.

The powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectra and atomic force microscopy were employed to confirm the structure of the obtained nanocomposites (F-MoS2-FePt NCs). The prepared nanocomposites show efficient peroxidase-like catalytic activities verified by catalyzing the peroxidation substrate 4,4'-diamino-3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbiphenyl (TMB) with the existence of H2O2. RESULTS The optimal conditions of the constructed colorimetric sensing platform is proved as 35 °C and pH 4.2. Under optimal catalytic conditions, the detection limit for H2O2 detection reaches 2.24 μM and the linear ranger is 8 μM to 300 μM. Furthermore, the proposed colorimetric sensing platform was successfully utilized to detect the intracellular H2O2 of cancer cells (MCF-7). CONCLUSIONS These findings indicated that the F-MoS2-FePt-TMB-H2O2 system provides a potential sensing platform for hydrogen peroxide monitoring in living cells.

Abstract
Exploiting a rapid and sensitive method for biomarker detection has important implications in the early diagnosis of diseases. Here, we synthesized Mn3O4 microspheres which worked as a nanozyme to exhibit outstanding oxidase-like activity for rapid colorimetric determination of glutathione (GSH). The Mn3O4 microspheres of about 800 nm in size could be prepared through a hydrothermal method, and we found that the as-prepared Mn3O4 microspheres could quickly oxidize 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to its oxidized form (TMBox) in the absence of H2O2. After adding glutathione (GSH), TMBox was able to be changed into to its original form and resulted in the corresponding decrease in absorbance value at 652 nm. The Mn3O4-TMB system had good linearity with GSH concatenation in the range of 5–60 μM, and the limit of detection was 0.889 μM. Furthermore, this assay possessed high selectivity specificity, which made it possible to detect GSH in human serum samples. Thus, the obtained assay based on the oxidase mimic of Mn3O4 would enlarge and exploit the application fields of nanozymes in bio-analysis. The oxidase-like activity of Mn3O4 was used to detect the GSH level directly and rapidly in the absence of H2O2.![]()

Abstract
Interest is growing in the development of artificial enzymes to overcome the drawbacks of natural enzymes. Herein, we have synthesized nitrogen-sulphur dual-doped carbon quantum dots (NS-CQDs) via a one-step hydrothermal method; the NS-CQDs possess excellent optical properties and a high fluorescent quantum yield (46%). Significantly, the NS-CQDs exhibited peroxidase mimetic enzyme activity without support from metals or polymeric materials and efficiently catalyzed the oxidation of peroxidase substrate 3,3,5,5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of H2O2 to produce a blue solution with an absorption maximum at 652 nm. Mechanistic studies suggest that the small size and high electron density of NS-CQDs play vital roles and accelerate the reduction of H2O2 to generate ˙OH radical, which facilitates the oxidation of TMB. The catalytic activity is based on Michaelis-Menten kinetic behavior, and steady state kinetic analysis suggests that the NS-CQDs exhibit a higher affinity for H2O2 than TMB, similar to the natural enzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Moreover, the catalytic pathway follows a ping-pong mechanism. Therefore, these findings offer a worthy platform for colorimetric detection of H2O2 in a linear range of 0.02 mM to 0.1 mM with a limit of detection of 0.004 mM. Interestingly, the blue colour of oxidized TMB showed excellent selectivity over non-thiolate biological molecules, especially amino acids, and glutathione can be detected up to 0.07 μM via colorimetric and fluorimetric assays. Additionally, this system showed excellent recovery (96.0-108.3%) of GSH from human blood serum. Thus, the proposed sensing system is simple, convenient, and straightforward and can be potentially applied for real time monitoring of H2O2 and glutathione in biological samples.

Abstract
Iron oxide nanoparticles have been widely used in many important fields due to their excellent nanoscale physical properties, such as magnetism/superparamagnetism. They are usually assumed to be biologically inert in biomedical applications. However, iron oxide nanoparticles were recently found to also possess intrinsic enzyme-like activities, and are now regarded as novel enzyme mimetics. A special term, "Nanozyme", has thus been coined to highlight the intrinsic enzymatic properties of such nanomaterials. Since then, iron oxide nanoparticles have been used as nanozymes to facilitate biomedical applications. In this review, we will introduce the enzymatic features of iron oxide nanozyme (IONzyme), and summarize its novel applications in biomedicine.

Abstract
Glutathione is of vital importance to human beings through involving in many cellular functions. Simple and sensitive methods capable of detecting glutathione in biological samples are significant to diagnosis and prevention of disease. Here a simple, label-free, and sensitive colorimetric method was developed for the determination of glutathione. It was observed that Ag+ ion could directly oxidize 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), a commonly used peroxidase substrate, to produce a green solution, which possessed a maximum absorbance at 420nm. The presence of glutathione hindered the oxidation process and decreased the absorbance at 420nm owing to its ability to bind with Ag+ ion. The procedure allowed the measurement of 0.1-4.0μM glutathione with a detection limit of 59nM. The relative standard deviation was 1.8% in eleven replicated measurements of 1.0μM glutathione solution. The method was applied to the determination of glutathione in human plasma with satisfactory results.

Abstract
Fe3O4 nanoparticles (Fe3O4 NPs), demonstrating peroxidase-like activity has garnered attention in the detection of several biomolecules, therefore, emerged as an excellent nano-biosensing agent. The intrinsic peroxidase-like activity of Fe3O4 NPs at acidic pH is the fundamental action driving the oxidation of substrates like TMB, resulting in a colorimetric product formation used in the detection of biomolecules. Hence, the detection sensitivity essentially depends on the ability of oxidation by Fe3O4 NPs in presence of H2O2. However, the limited sensitivity and pH condition constraint have been identified as the major drawbacks in the detection of biomolecules at physiological pH. Herein, we report overwhelming of the fundamental limitation of acidic pH and tuning the peroxidase-like activity of Fe3O4 NPs at physiological pH by using ATP. In presence of ATP, Fe3O4 NPs exhibited enhanced peroxidase-like activity over a wide range of pH and temperatures. Mechanistically, it was found that the ability of ATP to participate in single electron transfer reaction, through complexation with Fe3O4 NPs, results in the generation of hydroxyl radicals which are responsible for enhanced peroxidase activity at physiological pH. We utilized this ATP-mediated enhanced peroxidase-like activity of Fe3O4 NPs for single step detection of glucose with a colorimetric detection limit of 50μM. Further, we extended this single step detection method to monitor glucose level in human blood serum and detected in a time span of <5min at pH 7.4.

Abstract
A novel fluorescence sensor based on controlling the surface passivation degree of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) was developed for glutathione (GSH) detection. First, we found that the fluorescence intensity of the CQDs which was obtained by directly pyrolyzing citric acid would increased largely after the surface passivation treatment by 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide (EDC). In the light of this phenomenon, we designed a simple, rapid and selective fluorescence sensor based on the surface passivated CQDs. A certain and excess amount of EDC were mixed with GSH, part of EDC would form a stable complex with GSH owing to the exposed sulfhydryl group of GSH. As the synthesized CQDs were added into the above mixture solution, the fluorescence intensity of the (EDC/GSH)/CQDs mixture solution could be directly related to the amount of GSH. Compared to other fluorescence analytical methods, the fluorescence sensor we design is neither the traditional fluorescent "turn on" probes nor "turn off" probes. It is a new fluorescence analytical method that target object indirectly control the surface passivation degree of CQDs so that it can realize the detection of the target object. Moreover, the proposed method manifested great advantages including short analysis time, low cost and ease of operation.
