Abstract
Activated aziridines react with propargyl alcohols in the presence of Zn(OTf)2 as the Lewis acid catalyst following an SN2-type ring-opening mechanism to furnish the corresponding amino ether derivatives. Those amino ethers further undergo intramolecular hydroamination via 6-exo-dig cyclization in the presence of Zn(OTf)2 as the catalyst and tetrabutylammonium triflate salt as an additive under one-pot two-step reaction conditions. However, for nonracemic examples, ring-opening and cyclization steps were conducted under two-pot conditions. The reaction works well without any additional solvents. The final 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,4-oxazine products were obtained with 13 to 84% yield and 78 to 98% enantiomeric excess (for nonracemic examples).

Abstract
In the family of metallocenes, MgCp*2 (Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) exhibits a regular linear sandwich structure, whereas CaCp*2 is bent in both the gas phase and solid state. Bending is typically observed for metal ions which possess a lone pair. Here, we investigate which electronic differences cause the bending in complexes lacking lone pairs at the metal atoms. The bent gas-phase geometry of CaCp*2 suggests that the bending must have an intramolecular origin. Geometry optimizations with and without dispersion effects/d-type polarization functions on MCp2 and MCp*2 gas-phase complexes (M = Ca, Mg) establish that attractive methyl···methyl London dispersion interactions play a decisive role in the bending in CaCp*2. A sufficient polarizability of the metal to produce a shallow bending potential energy curve is a prerequisite but is not the reason for the bending. Concomitant ligand-induced charge concentrations and localizations at the metal atoms are studied in further detail, for which real-space bonding and orbital-based descriptors are used. Low-temperature crystal structures of MgCp*2 and CaCp*2 were determined which facilitated the identification and characterization of intermolecular pseudo-pregostic interactions, C-H···Ca, in the CaCp*2 crystal structure.

Abstract
The cyclization of 2,3-dihalopyridines with readily available imines provides a convenient and regioselective approach to 4- and 7-azaindoles. The regioselectivity can be controlled by the choice of the halogen atoms at the pyridine ring (chlorine versus bromine).

Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis and characterization of two organozinc complexes that contain symmetrical phenalenyl (PLY)-based N,N-ligands. The reactions of phenalenyl-based ligands with ZnMe(2) led to the formation of organozinc complexes [N(Me),N(Me)-PLY]ZnMe (1) and [N(iPr),N(iPr)-PLY]ZnMe (2) under the evolution of methane. Both complexes (1 and 2) were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The solid-state structures of complexes 1 and 2 were determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. Complexes 1 and 2 were used as catalysts for the intramolecular hydroamination of unactivated primary and secondary aminoalkenes. A combined approach of NMR spectroscopy and DFT calculations was utilized to obtain better insight into the mechanistic features of the zinc-catalyzed hydroamination reactions. The progress of the catalysis for primary and secondary aminoalkene substrates with catalyst 2 was investigated by detailed kinetic studies, including kinetic isotope effect measurements. These results suggested pseudo-first-order kinetics for both primary and secondary aminoalkene activation processes. Eyring and Arrhenius analyses for the cyclization of a model secondary aminoalkene substrate afforded ΔH(≠) =11.3 kcal mol(-1) , ΔS(≠) =-35.75 cal K(-1) mol(-1) , and E(a) =11.68 kcal mol(-1) . Complex 2 exhibited much-higher catalytic activity than complex 1 under identical reaction conditions. The in situ NMR experiments supported the formation of a catalytically active zinc cation and the DFT calculations showed that more active catalyst 2 generated a more stable cation. The stability of the catalytically active zinc cation was further supported by an in situ recycling procedure, thereby confirming the retention of catalytic activity of compound 2 for successive catalytic cycles. The DFT calculations showed that the preferred pathway for the zinc-catalyzed hydroamination reactions is alkene activation rather than the alternative amine-activation pathway. A detailed investigation with DFT methods emphasized that the remarkably higher catalytic efficiency of catalyst 2 originated from its superior stability and the facile formation of its cation compared to that derived from catalyst 1.

Abstract
A series of all-metal binuclear sandwich-like complexes with the formula M(2)(η(4)-E(4))(2) (M=Al, Ga, In; E=Sb, Bi) was studied by density functional theory (DFT). The most stable conformer for each of the M(2)(η(4)-E(4))(2) species is the staggered one with D (4d) symmetry. The centred metal-metal bond in each M(2)(η(4)-E(4))(2) species is a covalent single bond, with the main contributors to these covalent bonds being the a(1) and e orbitals. For all these species, the interactions between the centred metal atoms and the all-metal ligands are covalent; η(4)-Sb (4) (2-) has a stronger ability to stabilize metal-metal bonds than η(4)-Bi (4) (2-). Nucleus-independent chemical shifts (NICS) values and molecular orbital (MO) analysis reveal that the all-metal η(4)-Sb (4) (2-) and η(4)-Bi (4) (2-) ligands in M(2)(η(4)-E(4))(2) possess conflicting aromaticity (σ antiaromaticity and π aromaticity), which differs from the all-metal multiple aromatic unit Al (4) (2-). In addition, all of these M(2)(η(4)-E(4))(2) species are stable according to the dissociation energies of M(2)(η(4)-E(4))(2) → 2 M(η(4)-E(4)) and M(2)(η(4)-E(4))(2) → 2 M + 2E(4), and these stable species can be synthesized by two-step substitution reactions: CpZnZnCp + 2E (4) (2-) → [E(4)ZnZnE(4)](2-) + 2Cp(-) and [E(4)ZnZnE(4)](2-) + 2 M (2) (+) → E(4)MME(4) + 2Zn(+).
