Abstract
The synthesis of a triazole appended dinucleating bisphosphine 1,4-bis(5-(diisopropylphosphaneyl)-1-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)benzene (2) and its coinage metal complexes are described. The dinucleating bisphosphine 2 was obtained by the temperature-controlled lithiation of 1,4-bis(1-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)benzene (1a) and 1,4-bis(1-(2-bromophenyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)benzene (1b) followed by the reaction with iPr2PCl. The reactions of 2 with copper(I) halides in 1 : 2 molar ratios yielded the [Cu(μ2-X)]2 dimeric complexes [{Cu(μ2-X)}2(PiPr2N3PhC2)2C6H4] (3, X = Cl; 4, X = Br; and 5, X = I), whereas the reaction of 2 with AgBr resulted in the formation of hetero-cubane complex [{Ag4(μ3-Br)4}{(PiPr2N3PhC2)2C6H4}2] (7). Similar reactions of 2 with AgX in 1 : 2 molar ratios yielded disilver complexes [{Ag(μ2-X)}2{(PiPr2N3PhC2)2C6H4}] (6, X = Cl and 8, X = I). Treatment of 2 with AgOAc in a 1 : 2 molar ratio afforded a dinuclear complex [Ag2(μ2-OAc)2{(PiPr2N3PhC2)2(C6H4)}] (9) with one of the acetate ligands bridging the two metal centres in the side-on mode, whereas the other one adopting the end-on mode keeping the >CO group uncoordinated. The reaction of 2 with two equivalents of [AuCl(SMe2)] afforded the digold complex [(AuClPiPr2N3PhC2)2C6H4] (10). The molecular structures of 2-5 and 7-10 were confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis. Non-covalent interactions between Cu and Carene were observed in the molecular structures of 3, 4 and 5. These weak interactions were also assessed by DFT calculations in terms of their non-covalent interaction plots (NCI) and QTAIM analyses.

Abstract
Controlled ligand-based redox-activity and chemical non-innocence are rapidly gaining importance for selective (catalytic) processes. This Concept aims to provide an overview of the progress regarding ligand-to-substrate single-electron transfer as a relatively new mode of operation to exploit ligand-centered reactivity and catalysis based thereon.

Abstract
Based on previous work related to the design and application of rigid tridentate phosphine-pyridine-phenyl coordination offered by a PNC-pincer ligand upon cyclometalation to nickel, the synthesis, spectroscopic and solid state characterization and redox-reactivity of two NiII(PNC) complexes featuring either a methyl (2CH3 ) or CF3 co-ligand (2CF3 ) are described. One-electron oxidation is proposed to furnish C-C reductive elimination, as deduced from a combined chemical, electrochemical, spectroscopic and computational study. One-electron reduction results in a ligand-centered radical anion, as supported by electrochemistry, UV spectroelectrochemistry, EPR spectroscopy, and DFT calculations. This further attenuates the breadth of chemical reactivity offered by such PNC-pincer ligands.

Abstract
The novel tridentate PNNOH pincer ligand LH features a reactive 2-hydroxypyridine functionality as well as a bipyridyl-methylphosphine skeleton for meridional coordination. This proton-responsive ligand coordinates in a straightforward manner to RuCl(CO)(H)(PPh3)3 to generate complex 1. The methoxy-protected analogue LMe was also coordinated to Ru(II) for comparison. Both species have been crystallographically characterized. Site-selective deprotonation of the 2-hydroxypyridine functionality to give 1' was achieved using both mild (DBU) and strong bases (KOtBu and KHMDS), with no sign of involvement of the phosphinomethyl side arm that was previously established as the reactive fragment. Complex 1' is catalytically active in the dehydrogenation of formic acid to generate CO-free hydrogen in three consecutive runs as well as for the dehydrogenative coupling of alcohols, giving high conversions to different esters and outperforming structurally related PNN ligands lacking the NOH fragment. DFT calculations suggest more favorable release of H2 through reversible reactivity of the hydroxypyridine functionality relative to the phosphinomethyl side arm.

Abstract
Redox-active ligands have evolved from being considered spectroscopic curiosities - creating ambiguity about formal oxidation states in metal complexes - to versatile and useful tools to expand on the reactivity of (transition) metals or to even go beyond what is generally perceived possible. This review focusses on metal complexes containing either catechol, o-aminophenol or o-phenylenediamine type ligands. These ligands have opened up a new area of chemistry for metals across the periodic table. The portfolio of ligand-based reactivity invoked by these redox-active entities will be discussed. This ranges from facilitating oxidative additions upon d(0) metals or cross coupling reactions with cobalt(iii) without metal oxidation state changes - by functioning as an electron reservoir - to intramolecular ligand-to-substrate single-electron transfer to create a reactive substrate-centered radical on a Pd(ii) platform. Although the current state-of-art research primarily consists of stoichiometric and exploratory reactions, several notable reports of catalysis facilitated by the redox-activity of the ligand will also be discussed. In conclusion, redox-active ligands containing catechol, o-aminophenol or o-phenylenediamine moieties show great potential to be exploited as reversible electron reservoirs, donating or accepting electrons to activate substrates and metal centers and to enable new reactivity with both early and late transition as well as main group metals.

Abstract
Photochemical activation of nickel-azido complex 2 [Ni(N3)(PNP)] (PN(H)P=2,2'-di(isopropylphosphino)-4,4'-ditolylamine) in neat benzene produces diamagnetic complex 3 [Ni(Ph)(PN(P)N(H))], which is crystallographically characterized. DFT calculations support photoinitiated N2-loss of the azido complex to generate a rare, transient Ni(IV) nitrido species, which bears significant nitridyl radical character. Subsequent trapping of this nitrido through insertion into the Ni-P bond generates a coordinatively unsaturated Ni(II) imidophosphorane P=N donor. This species shows unprecedented reactivity toward 1,2-addition of a C-H bond of benzene to form 3. The structurally characterized chlorido complex 4 [Ni(Cl)(PN(P)N(H))] is generated by reaction of 3 with HCl or by direct photolysis of 2 in chlorobenzene. This is the first report of aromatic C-H bond activation by a trapped transient nitrido species of a late transition metal.

Abstract
Two types of secondary diphosphines, 1,8-(ArPH)2C14H8 (1a: Ar = Tripp, 2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl; 1b: Ar = Mes, 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) and 1,3-((t)BuPHCH2)2C6H4 (2), based on rigid 1,8-anthracene and flexible m-xylyl frameworks, respectively, have been synthesized using different strategies. Compounds 1a and 1b were formed by nucleophilic aromatic substitution of a potassium organophosphido salt onto 1,8-difluoroanthracene, while compound 2 was obtained by addition of the Grignard reagent [1,3-(ClMgCH2)2C6H4]x to a dichloroorganophosphine, followed by reduction to the diphosphine. These compounds were isolated as ca. 1 : 1 mixtures of rac and meso diastereomers as determined by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. Borane and selenide derivatives of 2, 1,3-((t)BuPH(BH3)CH2)2C6H4 (3) and 1,3-((t)BuPH(Se)CH2)2C6H4 (4), were obtained. Preferential crystallization of one diastereomer of 3 and 4 was observed; X-ray crystallographic studies identified this as the rac isomer for diselenide 4. Metallation studies of compounds 1a and 2 yielded several alkali metal salts. The reaction of KH or K metal with 1a yielded the compounds 1,8-(TrippPK)2C14H8·xTHF (5) and 1,8-(TrippPK)2C14H10·xTHF (6), respectively; in complex 6 the central aromatic ring has been reduced to yield a bent dihydroanthracene backbone. A crown ether derivative of 6, [K(18-crown-6)(THF)2]2[1,8-(TrippP)2C14H10] (7), was characterised crystallographically. Double deprotonation of compound 2 with (n)BuLi/TMEDA (TMEDA = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine) afforded the yellow dilithium complex 1,3-((t)BuPLiCH2)2C6H4·TMEDA (8), which crystallized as a dimer featuring lithium-arene π interactions.

Abstract
The synthesis and preliminary coordination chemistry of two new redox-active bidentate ligands containing amido and phosphido donors are described. Treatment of the [(R)NP](2-) (R = Ph, 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) ligands with CuCl2 and PMe3 results in a dimeric copper(I) P-P coupled product via ligand oxidation. The intermediate of this reaction is proposed to involve a ligand radical generated via oxidation of the [(R)NP](2-) ligand by copper(II), and the existence of such an intermediate is probed using computational methods. Significant radical character on the phosphorus atoms of the alleged [(R)NP](•-)/copper(I) intermediate leads to P-P radical coupling.
