Abstract
A chiral Zn-Sr heterobimetallic catalyst system generated in situ has been developed for the first highly Z/E-selective asymmetric conjugate addition of 3-acetoxy-2-oxindoles to alkynones. Both terminal alkynones and nonterminal alkynones could be applied to the heterobimetallic catalytic system. The corresponding 3-alkenyl-3-acyloxy-2-oxindoles were obtained in moderate to excellent yields (55-99%) with high E:Z ratios (8:1-30:1) and high enantioselectivities (86-99% ee).

Abstract
Catalytic asymmetric Mannich reactions of imines with weakly acidic simple amides were developed using a chiral potassium hexamethyldisilazide (KHMDS)-bis(oxazoline) potassium salt (K-Box) catalyst system. The desired reactions proceeded to afford the target compounds in high yields with high diastereo- and enantioselectivities. It was suggested that a K enolate interacted with K-Box to form a chiral K enolate that reacted with imines efficiently. In this system, K-Box (potassium salt of Box) worked as a chiral ligand of the active potassium species.

Abstract
Main-group-metal-mediated transformations of imines have earned a valued place in the synthetic chemist's toolbox. Their versatility allows the simple preparation of various nitrogen containing compounds. This review will outline the early discoveries including metallation, addition/cyclisation and metathesis pathways, followed by the modern-day use of imines in synthetic methodology. Recent advances in imine C-F activation protocols are discussed, alongside revisiting "classic" imine reactivity from a sustainable perspective. Developments in catalytic methods for hydroelementation of imines have been reviewed, highlighting the importance of s-block metals in the catalytic arena. Whilst stoichiometric transformations in alternative reaction media such as deep eutectic solvents or water have been summarised. The incorporation of imines into flow chemistry has received recent attention and is summarised within.

Abstract
A magnesium precatalyst for the highly enantioselective hydro-boration of C[double bond, length as m-dash]O bonds is reported. The mechanistic basis of the unprecedented selectivity of this transformation has been investi-gated experimentally by isolation of catalytic intermediates and theoretically by DFT calculations. The facile formation of a magnesium borohydride species is critical in overcoming competing pathways in the selectivity-determining insertion step.

Abstract
Asymmetric epoxidation reactions of chalcone derivatives catalyzed by chiral calcium complexes using hydrogen peroxide were developed. The epoxidation reactions proceeded smoothly to afford the desired products in good yields with good enantioselectivities. This is the first example of chiral calcium-catalyzed asymmetric epoxidation reactions using hydrogen peroxide as the terminal oxidant.

Abstract
Investigation on organocalcium catalysis is just unfolding during the past decade. Beside conventional Ca salts with strong electron-withdrawing counter anions that may serve as Lewis acid catalysts, many Ca complexes have also been designed recently and found to be good catalysts in activation of element-H (EH) bonds like transition metal catalysts. These findings are interesting and may attract the interest of the chemists. Due to the great abundance, non-toxicity, and biocompatible features of Ca element, Ca-catalyzed reactions can be of great significance from the viewpoint of industry. This short review summarizes the recent advances on Ca-catalyzed reactions of EH bonds. We hope that it may provide a useful guide for interested readers from both the academy and industry.

Abstract
The concept of flow "fine" synthesis, that is, high yielding and selective organic synthesis by flow methods, is described. Some examples of flow "fine" synthesis of natural products and APIs are discussed. Flow methods have several advantages over batch methods in terms of environmental compatibility, efficiency, and safety. However, synthesis by flow methods is more difficult than synthesis by batch methods. Indeed, it has been considered that synthesis by flow methods can be applicable for the production of simple gasses but that it is difficult to apply to the synthesis of complex molecules such as natural products and APIs. Therefore, organic synthesis of such complex molecules has been conducted by batch methods. On the other hand, syntheses and reactions that attain high yields and high selectivities by flow methods are increasingly reported. Flow methods are leading candidates for the next generation of manufacturing methods that can mitigate environmental concerns toward sustainable society.

Abstract
A mild protocol for the asymmetric Michael addition of dimethyl malonate to various α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds was developed. The salient feature of this methodology is that a cheap and environmentally friendly Lewis acid, CaCl2, was used as a catalyst. An aminoindanol- and pyridine-derived ligand provided in the presence of CaCl2 Michael adducts in moderate to high enantioselectivities. The scope of the reaction was demonstrated.

Abstract
Highly enantioselective electrophilic amination reaction of enecarbamates with dibenzylazodicarboxylate and oxygenated nucleophiles catalyzed by chiral phosphoric acids is reported. Subsequent reduction or oxidation of the resulting precursors of α-hydrazinoimines leads to 1,2-diamines or α-amino acid precursors, respectively, in excellent yields and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
![]()
A highly
efficient method for the enantioselective one-pot synthesis
of 1,3-oxazolidines and 1,3-oxazinanes has been reported. The reaction
proceeds via the formation of hemiaminal intermediates obtained by
the enantioselective addition of respective alcohols to imines catalyzed
by a chiral magnesium phosphate catalyst, followed by intramolecular
cyclization under mildly basic conditions. A wide range of substrates
have been converted to the respective chiral heterocyclic products
in high yields and with excellent enantioselectivities using this
one-pot procedure.

Abstract
Out of the pybox: We have developed a novel chiral calcium iodide catalyst from CaI2 and a pybox that is stable under moisture and oxygen. This catalyst was applied to catalytic asymmetric Mannich-type reactions of malonates with both N-Boc-protected aromatic and aliphatic imines, and resulted in moderate to high yields with high enantioselectivities. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of highly enantioselective metal-catalyzed asymmetric Mannich-type reactions of malonates with N-Boc-protected aliphatic imines. The Mannich adduct was successfully converted into the α-hydroxy β-amino acid derivative. We have also shown the unique structure of the chiral Ca complexes with malonates.

Abstract
The effects of redox-inactive metal ions on dioxygen activation were explored using a new FeII complex containing a tripodal ligand with 3 sulfonamido groups. This iron complex exhibited a faster initial rate for the reduction of O2 than its MnII analog. Increases in initial rates were also observed in the presence of group 2 metal ions for both the FeII and MnII complexes, which followed the trend NMe4+ < BaII < CaII = SrII. These studies led to the isolation of heterobimetallic complexes containing FeIII-(μ-OH)-MII cores (MII = Ca, Sr, and Ba) and one with a [SrII(OH)MnIII]+ motif. The analogous [CaII(OH)GaIII]+ complex was also prepared and its solid state molecular structure is nearly identical to that of the [CaII(OH)FeIII]+ system. Nuclear magnetic resonance studies indicated that the diamagnetic [CaII(OH)GaIII]+ complex retained its structure in solution. Electrochemical measurements on the heterobimetallic systems revealed similar one-electron reduction potentials for the [CaII(OH)FeIII]+ and [SrII(OH)FeIII]+ complexes, which were more positive than the potential observed for [BaII(OH)FeIII]+. Similar results were obtained for the heterobimetallic MnII complexes. These findings suggest that Lewis acidity is not the only factor to consider when evaluating the effects of group 2 ions on redox processes, including those within the oxygen-evolving complex of Photosystem II.
