A Hg(i) corrugated sheet assembled by auxiliary dioxole groups and Hg⋯π interactions

Comproportionation between Hg0 and Hg2+ resulted in the formation of [Hg2(Pip)2] supported by Hg⋯Odioxole and Hg⋯π interactions. Structural and computational assessment determined the tendency of Hg(i) to partake in Hg⋯π interactions.

π-Hole spodium bonding in tri-coordinated Hg(II) complexes

The important role of π-hole spodium bonding in tri-coordinated planar Hg(ii) complexes is highlighted in this feature article. Selected examples of Hg(ii)X3 structures (X = any atom) illustrate that this noncovalent interaction is relevant as a structural guiding force in crystal structures. For some examples, the interactions have been characterized using the quantum theory of "atoms in molecules" and the noncovalent interaction plot index. Finally, an analysis of the Cambridge structural database revealed that the HgX3 structures are predominantly T-shaped and that they are directional π-hole donors for electron rich atoms.

Electron injection effect in In2O3 and SnO2 nanocrystals modified by ruthenium heteroleptic complexes

In this work, the optical characteristics and conductivity under photoactivation with visible light of hybrids based on nanocrystalline SnO2 or In2O3 semiconductor matrixes and heteroleptic Ru(ii) complexes were studied. The heteroleptic Ru(ii) complexes were prepared based on 1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline and 2,2'-bipyridine ligands. Nanocrystalline semiconductor oxides were obtained by chemical precipitation with subsequent thermal annealing and characterized by XRD, SEM and single-point BET methods. The heteroleptic Ru(ii) complexes as well as hybrid materials were characterized by time-resolved luminescence and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that the surface modification of SnO2 nanoparticles with heteroleptic ruthenium complexes led to an increase in conductivity upon irradiation with light appropriate for absorption by organometallic complexes. In the case of In2O3, the deposition of Ru(ii) complexes resulted in a decrease in conductivity, apparently due to the special structure of the surface layer of the semiconductor.

Synthesis and photophysical and magnetic studies of ternary lanthanide(iii) complexes of naphthyl chromophore functionalized imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline and dibenzoylmethane

The synthesis of ternary Eu(iii) and Tb(iii) complexes of dibenzoylmethane and naphthyl- and hydroxynaphthyl functionalized imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline as ancillary ligands and their luminescence and magnetic properties are reported in this work.

N,N-Diphenyl-4-(1H-pyrrolo[1,2-f][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)aniline ethanol monosolvate

The title compound, C₃₂H₂₁N₄·C₂H₅OH, crystallized as an ethanol monosolvate. In the mol­ecule of this phenanthroline derivative, the pyridine rings are almost coplanar, making a dihedral angle of 1.54 (13)°. The tri­phenyl­amine group, introduced as an electron donor, shows a propeller-type structure, and the dihedral angles between the benzene rings are 68.71 11), 63.92 (16) and 70.81 (15)°. In the crystal, the phenanthroline mol­ecules are linked via the solvent mol­ecule by N—H⋯O, O—H⋯N and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, leading to the formation of zigzag chains propagating along [010]. These chains are linked via C—H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming undulating two-dimensional networks extending in the a- and b-axis directions.
