Abstract
Elevated serum interleukins (IL-6, IL-1β) over baseline concentration help in blastocyst adhesion to the uterine endometrium in the early phase of pregnancy. A nano PLA (Piperolactam A)-HPBCD (2-hydroxy-propyl-β-cyclodextrin) inclusion complex was developed as an interleukin down-regulator that exhibited 100% anti-implantation activity in rodents at a dose as low as 2.5-5.0 mg/kg. On metabolomics study, among major glyco-lipo-protein metabolites, only serum low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) levels revealed alteration by the formulation. Administration of PLA-HPBCD did not cause changes in serum estrogen and progesterone levels. However, IL-6 and IL-1β failed to increase post PLA-HPBCD administration; hence, it is assumed to be the mode of the drug's abortifacient action. In addition, absence of signs of either acute or chronic toxicity suggests the formulation was considerably non-toxic. Therefore, the nano-PLA conjugate promises as a non-steroidal contraceptive lead apart from ormeloxifene, the only non-steroidal anti-fertility agent currently available globally.

Abstract
The physicochemical behavior and characteristics of lipid vesicles and micelles in aqueous medium are greatly tuned by changing the ambient physical parameters, such as temperature, pH, and ionic strength. The process is also controlled by external additives and the nature of the surfactants. In this work, we have used water-soluble surfactant and cyclodextrin to transform lipid vesicles to micelles to vesicles without changing the physical ambience. In this regard, we have used a special pyrene-tagged guest compound that readily forms excimer in water and thus acts as a reporter for the process. Giant lipid vesicles (biological cell mimics) are disrupted by cationic surfactants to form mixed elongated micelles that transform to vesicles on applying a cyclodextrin host.

Abstract
Glutathione (GSH)-coated gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) were synthesized in aqueous acidic medium. On deprotonation of the carboxyl groups of the GSH molecules under alkaline condition, the anionic ends react with the added cationic surfactant molecules to convert the Au NCs hydrophobic, resulting in loss of fluorescence due to apparent insolubility in water. The fluorescence is revived by adding cyclodextrins (CDs) that encapsulate the protruding hydrophobic tails of the surfactant molecules surrounding the GSH-coated Au NCs. While addition of β-CD showed maximum revival of the Au NC fluorescence, that by adding α-CD was lesser. Interestingly, on adding γ-CD, there was no increase in fluorescence of Au NCs at all. The size of CDs varies as γ- > β- > α-. It appears that the cavity size of the CD-hosts controls the fluorescence from the Au NCs abruptly, and the reason behind that was found to be formation of suprastructures, the shapes of which varied from spherical to cubic. The work shows the production of Au NC-grafted CD suprastructures that develop fluorescence on-off composites on the basis of their overall shapes.

Abstract
Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and fluorescence spectroscopies provide molecular-level insights on the interaction of paramagnetic and fluorescent species with the microenvironment. A series of dual molecular probes bearing fluorescent and paramagnetic moieties linked by flexible short polyether chains have been synthesized. These new molecular probes open the possibility to investigate various multi-component systems such as host-guest systems, polymeric micelles, gels and protein solutions by using EPR and fluorescence spectroscopies concertedly. The EPR and fluorescence spectra of these compounds show that the dependence of the rotational correlation time and fluorescence quantum yield on the chain length of the linker is not linear, due to the flexibility of the polyether linker. The quenching effect of the nitroxide moiety on the fluorescence intensity of the pyrene group varies with the linker length and flexibility. The interaction of these dual molecular probes with β-cyclodextrin, in solution and in polymeric gels, was evaluated and demonstrated by analysis of EPR and fluorescence spectra.

Abstract
The efficacy and applicability of anticancer drugs are greatly restricted by severe systemic toxicities and drug resistance. Targeting drug delivery strategies have been developed to prevent the shortcomings of chemotherapy. Among various approaches to specifically target drug-loaded carrier systems to the required pathological sites, ligand-attached cyclodextrin-based targeting complexes are a promising drug delivery system, which is achieved mainly through specific molecular interactions between the drugs and cell surface receptors. The principal targeting tactics include conjugation of cyclodextrin with targeting moieties or encapsulation drugs in cyclodextrins. The cyclodextrin-based supramolecules, polymers, or nanoparticles bearing bioactive substances such as folate, estrogens, carbohydrates, peptides, etc. have been reviewed.

Abstract
Inclusion complexation behavior of procainamide (PCA) with two cyclodextrins (α-CD and β-CD) were analyzed by absorption, fluorescence, scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Raman image, FT-IR, differential scanning colorimeter (DSC), Powder X ray diffraction (XRD) and (1)H NMR. Blue shift was observed in β-CD whereas no significant spectral shift observed in α-CD. The inclusion complex formation results suggest that water molecules also present in the inside of the CD cavity. The present study revealed that the phenyl ring of the PCA drug is entrapped in the CD cavity. Cyclodextrin studies show that PCA forms 1:2 inclusion complex with α-CD and β-CD. PCA:α-CD complex form nano-sized particles (46 nm) and PCA:β-CD complex form self-assembled to micro-sized tubular structures. The shape-shifting of 2D nanosheets into 1D microtubes by simple rolling mechanism were analysed by micro-Raman and TEM images. Thermodynamic parameters (ΔH, ΔG and ΔS) of inclusion process were determined from semiempirical PM3 calculations.

Abstract
Supramolecular host-guest complexation between the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug indomethacin (IMC) and molecular containers were investigated. The weakly fluorescent drug molecule becomes highly fluorescent on complexation with different molecular containers, and time-resolved fluorescence emission spectroscopy reveals that the lifetime components of IMC significantly increase in the presence of molecular containers, compared with the lifetimes in neat water. The respective solid host-guest complexes were synthesised and characterised by Fourier transform infrared and (1) H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis. Microscopy techniques were used to analyse modifications of the surface morphology, owing to the formation of supramolecular complexes. The effect of the molecular container on the optical properties of IMC has also been investigated to determine the effect of nanochannels of different size and structure.

Abstract
Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is characterized by abnormal blood vessels growing from the choroid. Current remedies for CNV have not shown favorable therapeutic efficacy. It is urgent to identify and develop more safe and potent anti-CNV agents via multiple technologies. We previously showed that the natural product naringenin attenuated CNV. However, naringenin has poor water solubility and low bioavailability. Here, we prepared the β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) complex of naringenin and characterized it using infrared spectra and X-ray diffraction analyses. Determination of content and solubility in the complex showed that naringenin accounted for 20.53% in the complex and its solubility was increased by more than 10-fold. Using a laser-induced CNV model in rats we demonstrated that naringenin/β-CD complex more significantly reduced CNV area than naringenin alone in rats. Furthermore, naringenin and its β-CD complex significantly inhibited the mRNA and protein expression of VEGF, COX-2, PI3K, p38MAPK, MMP-2, and MMP-9 in retina and choroid tissues. Naringenin/β-CD complex showed more significant inhibitory effect on VEGF and COX-2 expression than naringenin. These results collectively indicated that naringenin/β-CD complex could be a promising therapeutic option for CNV and that the beneficial effects could be linked to the anti-inflammatory properties of naringenin.
