Abstract
We report a lateral sodiation of alkyl(hetero)arenes using on‐demand generated hexane‐soluble (2‐ethylhexyl)sodium (1) in the presence of TMEDA. (2‐Ethylhexyl)sodium (1) is prepared via a sodium packed‐bed reactor and used for metalations at ambient temperature in batch as well as in continuous flow. The resulting benzylic sodium species are subsequently trapped with various electrophiles including carbonyl compounds, epoxides, oxetane, allyl/benzyl chlorides, alkyl halides and alkyl tosylates. Wurtz‐type couplings with secondary alkyl halides and tosylates proceed under complete inversion of stereochemistry. Furthermore, the utility of this lateral sodiation is demonstrated in the synthesis of pharmaceutical relevant compounds. Thus, fingolimod is prepared from p‐xylene applying the lateral sodiation twice. In addition, 7‐fold isotopically labeled salmeterol‐d7 and fenpiprane as well as precursors to super linear alkylbenzene (SLAB) surfactants are prepared.

Abstract
We have synthesized several new manganocene-adduct ([Cp2Mn(L)] = 1-L) complexes using pyridine and polypyridine ligands and report their molecular structures and characterization data. Consistent with other molecules in this class [(ηx-Cp)2MnLn] or [(ηx-Cp)2Mn(L-L)] (n = 1, 2; x = 1, 3, or 5), the manganese-cyclopentadienide interaction deviates from the classical ηx interactions (x = 3 or 5). Such deviations have been ascribed to steric factors and often called non-ideal hapticity. However, there is no quantification of this non-ideal hapticity and thus it is difficult to evaluate the extent of ring slippage or assign hapticity. Furthermore, the hypothesis that non-ideal hapticity in high-spin MnII complexes is induced by steric interactions has not been systematically evaluated. Therefore, we report herein a quantified scale for deviation from ideal hapticity between zero (ideal η5 interaction) and one ("η1" interaction). This quantified deviation from ideal hapticity has an empirical relationship with the ligand's steric properties, which strongly supports the premise that steric interactions cause the deviations in ionic M-Cp interactions.

Abstract
The cothermolysis of As4 and [Cp″2Zr(CO)2] (Cp″ = η5-C5H3tBu2) results in the formation of [Cp″2Zr(η1:1-As4)] (1) in high yields and the arsenic-rich complex [(Cp″2Zr)(Cp″Zr)(μ,η2:2:1-As5)] (2) as a minor product. In contrast to yellow arsenic, 1 is a light-stable, weighable and storable arsenic source for subsequent reactions. The transfer reaction of 1 with [Cp‴Fe(μ-Br)]2 (Cp‴ = η5-C5H2tBu3) yields the unprecedented bond isomeric complexes [(Cp‴Fe)2(μ,η4:4-As4)] (3a) and [(Cp‴Fe)2(μ,η4:4-cyclo-As4)] (3b). In contrast, the analogous reaction with the CpBn derivative [CpBnFe(μ-Br)]2 (CpBn = η5-C5(CH2(C6H5)5) leads exclusively to the triple decker complex [(CpBnFe)2(μ,η4:4-As4)] (4) possessing the tetraarsabutadiene-type ligand analogous to 3a. To elucidate the stability of the bonding isomers 3a and 3b, DFT calculations were performed. The oxidation of 4 with AgBF4 affords [(CpBnFe)2(μ,η5:5-As5)][BF4] (5), which is a product expanded by one arsenic atom, instead of the expected complex [(CpBnFe)2(μ,η4:4-cyclo-As4)]+.

Abstract
The synthesis of tetrabenzo[a,c,g,i]fluorenyl (Tbf) yttrium dialkyl complexes, (Tbf)Y(CH2SiMe3)2(L) (L = tetrahydrofuran (THF), 1; L = bipy, 2), by direct protonolysis of the tris(alkyl) complex, Y(CH2SiMe3)3(THF)2, are reported. The X-ray crystal structures of 1 and 2 display the helical twisting typically observed for the Tbf ligand. Dynamic nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies on 1 show a barrier to Tbf helical inversion (epimerization or “wagging”) of 38.1 ± 0.5 kJ mol−1. The reaction of 1 with acidic hydrocarbons such as 1,3-bis(trimethylsilyl)cyclopentadiene or trimethylsilylacetylene results in protonolysis to form the mixed Cp derivative [(Tbf){C5H3(SiMe3)2}Y(CH2SiMe3)(THF)] (3) or [(Tbf)Y(CCSiMe3)2(THF)]n (4), respectively. In the case of 4, a small amount of the trinuclear cluster (Tbf)Y3(μ3-CCSiMe3)2(μ2-CCSiMe3)3(CCSiMe3)3(THF)2 (5) was isolated and characterized by X-ray crystallography. Dialkyl 1 undergoes smooth insertion of trimethylsilyl isocyanate to afford [(Tbf)Y{κ2-(N,O)-Me3SiN(Me3SiCH2)CO}2(THF)] (6) but it does not react with alkenes. Treating 1 with [Ph3C]+[B(C6F5)4]− in bromobenzene generates a moderately active ethylene polymerization catalyst (36 kg mol−1 h−1 bar−1).

Abstract
The synthesis of C2 symmetric enantiomerically pure open Ca and Sr metallocenes, [(η(5)-pdl*)2Ca(thf)] (1) and [(η(5)-pdl*)2Sr(thf)2] (2) (pdl* = dimethylnopadienyl) is described and these complexes were fully characterized. The solid state structures confirm that the pdl* ligands coordinate exclusively with the less sterically demanding site to the Ca and Sr atoms. These complexes are active catalysts for the controlled ring opening polymerization (ROP) of rac-lactide to give heterotactically enriched polylactides (PL) with narrow polydispersities (PDI = 1.29-1.31) and without adding further activators.

Abstract
The new bulky cyclopentadienyl anions 1,2,4-tri(cyclopentyl)cyclopentadienide and 2,3-diisopropyl-1,4-dimethyl-5-trimethylsilyl-cyclopentadienide were prepared. These and the already known 1,2,4-tri(cyclohexyl)-, 1,2,4-tri(isopropyl)-, 2,3-diisopropyl-1,4-dimethyl-, 1,3,4-triisopropyl-2,5-dimethyl-, pentaphenyl-, and p-butylphenyl-tetraphenyl-cyclopentadienide as well as tert-butylindenide were coordinated to the cycloheptatrienylzirconium fragment [(CHT)ZrCl(tmeda)]. The nine zirconium complexes of the [(CHT)Zr(Cp)] type were characterized by elemental analysis and NMR spectroscopy. For five of the sandwich complexes X-ray crystal structure determination could be carried out; structures of the four others were obtained by DFT calculations. The data serve as a basis for cone angle measurements of cyclopentadienyl ligands to evaluate the steric demand of these ligands.

Abstract
The reaction of o-(trimethylsilylethynyl)styrenes with diisobutylaluminum hydride (DIBAL-H) provides 2-trimethylsilyl-1H-indenes efficiently. The cyclization mechanism involves regioselective hydroalumination of the alkynyl moiety, geometrical isomerization of the alkenylaluminums formed, and intramolecular carboalumination. With substrates bearing a 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethenyl group (R(1) = Me3Si, R(2) = R(3) = H), bis-silylated benzofulvenes are obtained upon treatment of the reaction mixture with an excess amount of benzaldehyde.

Abstract
The synthesis of a number of yttrium metallocenes based on the phenanthrene-fused Cp ligand PCpR (R = H, Me, Ph) is reported. Acid−base (σ-bond metathesis) reactions between the parent HPCpR ligands and Y(CH2SiMe3)3(THF)2 afford the monomeric alkyl complexes Y(PCpR)2(CH2SiMe3)(THF) (R = H, 1; Me, 2; Ph, 3). Salt metathesis between Li+PCpMe− and YCl3 in THF similarly affords the monomeric chloride complex Y(PCpMe)2(Cl)(THF) (4), which reacts further with methyllithium to generate the bridging “ate” complex Y(PCpMe)2(μ-Me)2Li(THF)2 (5). Complex 3 undergoes rapid hydrogenolysis in the presence of phenylsilane to afford the crystalline bridging hydride dimer [Y(PCpPh)2]2(μ-H)2 (6). The X-ray structures of complexes 2 and 6 are reported along with the solution behaviour of 2.

Abstract
1,2,3,4-Tetrasubstituted cyclopentadienes and indene derivatives with identical or different substituents were obtained in good to excellent isolated yields through a zirconocene- and CuCl-mediated intermolecular coupling process. This synthetic procedure involved three organic partners, including one CH2 I2 , and two different or identical alkynes. Two alkynes or one diyne undergo Cp2Zr(II)-mediated (Cp = η(5)-C5H5) pair-selective reductive coupling to afford the corresponding zirconacyclopentadiene derivatives, which react, in the presence of CuCl and 1,3-dimethyl-3,4,5,6-tetrahydro-2(1 H)-pyrimidinone (DMPU), with CH2I2 through intermolecular followed by intramolecular coupling to afford the cyclopentadiene derivatives. An application of the prepared tetrasubstituted cyclopentadiene derivatives was demonstrated by the facile synthesis of the corresponding zirconocene complexes [((4R)Cp)2ZrCl2] and [((4R)Cp)2ZrR'2] (R' = Me, Et, or nBu). The unique 1,2,3,4-tetrasubstituted cyclopentadiene ligands and the corresponding metallocenes are expected to have further applications in organometallic chemistry and organic synthesis.

Abstract
This tutorial review summarizes the organometallic chemistry derived from the half-sandwich complex [(η(7)-C(7)H(7))ZrCl(tmeda)], which was used as an efficient and versatile starting material for the incorporation of monoanionic ligands into the cycloheptatrienyl zirconium coordination sphere by conventional salt metathesis reactions. A broad variety of ligands was employed, affording novel and previously inaccessible cycloheptatrienyl (sandwich) complexes of the type [(η(7)-C(7)H(7))Zr(Y)]; Y comprises pentadienyl, cyclopentadienyl, allyl, phospholyl, boratabenzene, imidazolin-2-iminato and amido systems. The cycloheptatrienyl ring in these systems usually acts as an "innocent spectator ligand", but reactivity can arise from the second ligand Y or the Lewis acidity of the, formally, Zr(+iv) center, which was probed in selected examples and put in perspective to related studies. The corresponding results emphasize why the use of [(η(7)-C(7)H(7))ZrCl(tmeda)] is clearly an advancement in the chemistry of the still fairly unexplored area of cycloheptatrienyl transition metal complexes.
