Abstract
The structure of a free nickel (II) octamethylporphyrin (NiOMP) molecule was determined for the first time through a combined gas-phase electron diffraction (GED) and mass spectrometry (MS) experiment, as well as through quantum chemical (QC) calculations. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations do not provide an unambiguous answer about the planarity or non-planar distortion of the NiOMP skeleton. The GED refinement in such cases is non-trivial. Several approaches to the inverse problem solution were used. The obtained results allow us to argue that the ruffling effect is manifested in the NiOMP molecule. The minimal critical distance between the central atom of the metal and nitrogen atoms of the coordination cavity that provokes ruffling distortion in metal porphyrins is about 1.96 Å.

Abstract
A comprehensive study of the molecular structure of aza-BODIPY and its derivatives, obtained by introduction of one or more substituents, was carried out. We considered the changes in the characteristics of the electronic and geometric structure of the unsubstituted aza-BODIPY introducing the following substituents into the dipyrrin core; phenyl, 2-thiophenyl, 2-furanyl, 3-pyridinyl, 4-pyridinyl, 2-pyridinyl, and ethyl groups. The ground-state geometries of the unsubstituted Aza-BODIPY and 27 derivatives were computed at the PBE/6-31G(d) and CAM-B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) levels of theory. The time-dependent density-functional theory (TDDFT) together with FC vibronic couplings was used to investigate their absorption and emission spectra.

Abstract
The geometrical and electronic structures of iron and cobalt metal complexes of porphyrazine and tetra(1,2,5-thiadiazole)porphyrazine in ground and low-lying excited electronic states were determined by DFT calculations and the complete active space (CASSCF) method with following accounting dynamic correlation by multiconfigurational quasidegenerate second-order perturbation theory (MCQDPT2). A geometrical structure of D[Formula: see text] symmetry has been obtained for all four complexes. According to data obtained by the MCQDPT2 method, the complexes of cobalt and iron possess the ground states 2A[Formula: see text] and 3A[Formula: see text], respectively, and wave functions of the ground states have the form of a single determinant. It is shown that the crystal field theory (CFT) can be used to describe the sequence of electronic states of the investigated complexes. The nature of the bonds between metal atoms and nitrogen atoms has been described using the analysis of the electron density distribution in the frame of Bader’s quantum theory of atoms in molecule (QTAIM).

Abstract
We tested a battery of density functional theory (DFT) methods ranging from generalized gradient approximation (GGA) via meta-GGA to hybrid meta-GGA schemes as well as Møller-Plesset perturbation theory of the second order and a single and double excitation coupled-cluster (CCSD) theory for their ability to reproduce accurate gas-phase structures of di- and triatomic molecules derived from microwave spectroscopy. We obtained the most accurate molecular structures using the hybrid and hybrid meta-GGA approximations with B3PW91, APF, TPSSh, mPW1PW91, PBE0, mPW1PBE, B972, and B98 functionals, resulting in lowest errors. We recommend using these methods to predict accurate three-dimensional structures of inorganic molecules when intramolecular dispersion interactions play an insignificant role. The structures that the CCSD method predicts are of similar quality although at considerably larger computational cost. The structures that GGA and meta-GGA schemes predict are less accurate with the largest absolute errors detected with BLYP and M11-L, suggesting that these methods should not be used if accurate three-dimensional molecular structures are required. Because of numerical problems related to the integration of the exchange-correlation part of the functional and large scattering of errors, most of the Minnesota models tested, particularly MN12-L, M11, M06-L, SOGGA11, and VSXC, are also not recommended for geometry optimization. When maintaining a low computational budget is essential, the nonseparable gradient functional N12 might work within an acceptable range of error. As expected, the DFT-D3 dispersion correction had a negligible effect on the internuclear distances when combined with the functionals tested on nonweakly bonded di- and triatomic inorganic molecules. By contrast, the dispersion correction for the APF-D functional has been found to shorten the bonds significantly, up to 0.064 Å (AgI), in Ag halides, BaO, BaS, BaF, BaCl, Cu halides, and Li and Na halides and hydrides. These results do not agree well with very accurate structures derived from microwave spectroscopy; we therefore believe that the dispersion correction in the APF-D method should be reconsidered. Finally, we found that inaccurate structures can easily lead to errors of few kcal/mol in single-point energies.

Abstract
We report the formation of new cyclic porphyrin tetrads 1 and 2, which were obtained from the reaction between dihydroxytin(IV) porphyrin and cis-dihydroxy-21-thiaporphyrin/21,23-dithiaporphyrin. The unique oxophilicity of tin(IV) porphyrin was the driving force for the formation of these tetrads. Moreover, these novel tetrads represent the first examples of cyclic porphyrins containing tin(IV) that are constructed exclusively on the basis of the "Sn-O" interaction without any other complementary, noncompetitive mode of interactions. The molecular structures of the cyclic tetrads have been investigated by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry, NMR spectroscopy, quantum-mechanical calculations, and, in one case, single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The X-ray structure revealed that the two cis-dihydroxy-N2S2 porphyrins were coordinated at the axial positions of two tin(IV) porphyrins, leading to the symmetric cyclic tetrad structure. The optical properties of tetrads were studied, and these compounds were stable under redox conditions. Preliminary photophysical studies carried out on the tetrads indicated efficient energy transfer from tin(IV) porphyrin to the thiaporphyrin unit, which highlights their potential applications in energy and electron transfer in the future.
