Abstract
Two new organic–inorganic salts of perhalidometallates with protonated organic amine cations have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis. (CHBMAH2)ZnBr4·3/2H2O 1 and (CHBMAH2)ZnCl4 4 [(CHBMAH2)2+: 1,3-cyclohexanebis(methylammonium)] were obtained in single-crystal form. The crystal packing in all of the obtained compounds is governed by the formation of various non-covalent intermolecular forces between tetrahalidometallate anions and organic cations, assisted by water molecules in the hydrates. Hirshfeld surface analysis denotes that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are X···H/H···X (X: Cl, Br, I) and H···H interactions. Interestingly, the compound 1,3-cyclohexanebis(methylammonium)tetrachloridozincate (II) dihydrate, (CHBMAH2)ZnCl4·2H2O 2, undergoes thermally-triggered single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformation upon dehydration to produce a supramolecular solid compound, 1,3-cyclohexanebis(methylammonium) tetrachloridozincate (II), (CHBMAH2)ZnCl4 4. The SCSC transformation causes changes in the lattice parameters and a structural rearrangement. Furthermore, the catalytic properties of (CHBMAH2)ZnCl4·2H2O 2 and (CHBMAH2)CdI4·2H2O 3 have been explored in the acetalization process using various uncommon alcohols, beyond methanol or ethanol, for the first time in the literature, with outstanding results, and opening the door to the formation of alternative acetals.

Abstract
The aroylhydrazone Schiff bases 2-hydroxy-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)benzohydrazide and (2,3-dihydroxybenzylidene)-2-hydroxybenzohydrazide have been used to synthesize the bi- and tri-nuclear Ni(II) complexes [Ni2(L1)2(MeOH)4] (1) and [Ni3(HL2)2(CH3OH)8]· (NO3)2 (2). Both complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic techniques [IR spectroscopy and electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS)], and single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The coordination behavior of the two ligands is different in the complexes: The ligand exhibits the keto form in 2, while coordination through enol form was found in 1. Herein, the catalytic activity of 1 and 2 has been compared with the nitroaldol condensation reaction under various conditions. Complex 2 exhibits the highest activity towards solvent-free conditions.

Abstract
The reactions of 3,3'-{(pyridine-2,6-dicarbonyl)bis(azanediyl)}dibenzoic acid (H2L) with zinc(II), cadmium(II), and samarium(III) nitrates were studied, and the obtained compounds, [Zn(1κO:2κO'-L)(H2O)2] n (1), [Cd(1κO 2:2κO 2-L)(H2O)2]2 ⋅6n H2O⋅ n C4H8O2 ⋅1.5n DMF (2), and [Sm(1κO:2κO'O'':3κO'''-L)(NO3)(H2O)(dmf)] n ⋅ n DMF (3), were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Compounds 1 and 3 have 1D zigzag- and double-chain-type structures, respectively, whereas 2 features a dinuclear metallomacrocyclic complex. The ligand (L2-) orients in different conformations, that is, syn-syn for 1 and anti-anti for 2 and 3. Compound 1 is the first example in which the syn-syn conformation for this ligand has been observed. These compounds act as heterogeneous catalysts for the nitroaldol (Henry; in water medium) and Knoevenagel condensation reactions of different aldehydes, and the most effective is zinc coordination polymer 1. Recyclability, heterogeneity, and size-selectivity tests were performed, which showed that the catalyst was highly active over at least four recycling runs.

Abstract
We describe the synthesis and structural characterization of a novel dinuclear Cu(ii) complex containing a new flexible mixed pyridine-carboxylate ligand. Single crystal X-ray diffraction reveals its uniqueness with two coordinated water molecules and four uncoordinated pyridyl groups. Utilizing the bifunctional catalytic sites, it has been found to be an efficient, robust and recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for the diastereoselective Henry (nitroaldol) reaction of aldehydes with nitroethane.

Abstract
Background Complexes of imidazole derivatives with transition metal ions have attracted much attention because of their biological and pharmacological activities, such as antimicrobial, antifungal, antiallergic, antitumoural and antimetastatic properties. In addition, imidazoles occupy an important place owing to their meaningful catalytic activity in several processes, such as in hydroamination, hydrosilylation, Heck reaction and Henry reaction. In this work, we describe the crystallization of two halogenometallate based on 2-methylimidazole. Their IR, thermal analysis, catalytic properties and antibacterial activities have also been investigated. Results Two new isostructural organic-inorganic hybrid materials, based on 2-methyl-1H-imidazole, 1 and 2, were synthesized and fully structurally characterized. The analysis of their crystal packing reveals non-covalent interactions, including C/N–H···Cl hydrogen bonds and π···π stacking interactions, to be the main factor governing the supramolecular assembly of the crystalline complexes. The thermal decomposition of the complexes is a mono-stage process, confirmed by the three-dimensional representation of the powder diffraction patterns (TDXD). The catalytic structure exhibited promising activity using MeOH as solvent and as the unique source of acetalization. Moreover, the antimicrobial results suggested that metal-complexes exhibit significant antimicrobial activity. Conclusion This study highlights again the structural and the biological diversities within the field of inorganic–organic hybrids.

Abstract
Three new compounds bearing different flexible side functional groups, viz. 2-acetamidoterephthalic acid (H2L1), 2-propionamidoterephthalic acid (H2L2) and 2-benzamidoterephthalic acid (H2L3), were synthesized and their coordination reactions with zinc(II) were studied. X-ray crystallography showed the formation of novel metal organic frameworks with different dimensionalities, where the side functional groups of amidoterephthalic acid and/or auxiliary ligands were found to play significant roles. These frameworks [Zn2(L1)2(4,4'-bipyridine)2(H2O)(DMF)]n (1), [Zn4(L2)3(OH)2(DMF)2(H2O)2]n (2) and [Zn(L3)(H2O)2]n·n/2(1,4-dioxane) (3) act as heterogeneous polymeric solid catalysts not only for the diastereoselective nitroaldol (Henry) reaction of different aldehydes with nitroalkanes but also for transesterification reactions. These MOF-based heterogeneous catalysts can be recycled without losing their activity.

Abstract
Chiral three-dimensional Mg(ii) and Mn(ii) sulfates have been synthesized, well characterized and studied from first-principles calculations. High temperature X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and DFT calculations reveal that the structures of both the compounds remain intact even after the thermal decomposition of the ammonium ion.
