Abstract
A new cyanido bridged Zn(II)-Mn(II) mixed-metal coordination polymer, {[Zn(μ-L)(μ-CN)2Mn0.5]·(CH3OH)}n (1), has been synthesized by the reaction of Zn(CN)2, Mn(II) salts and a hydrazone ligand (HL = (E)-N'-(phenyl(pyridin-2-yl)methylene)isonicotinohydrazide) in methanol. Compound 1 was characterized using various analytical methods (including elemental analysis, photoluminescence, FT-IR, XRD, SEM, and EDX analyses, and TGA), and its structure was determined by X-ray analysis. These analyses confirmed the formation of a mixed metal Zn(II)-Mn(II) coordination polymer containing both cyanide and hydrazone bridging ligands. This mixed metal coordination polymer exhibits interesting emission spectra by having several emissions via excitation at 230, 270, 375 and 385 nm. The catalytic activity of compound 1 in chemical CO2 fixation was investigated in the presence of epoxides, and the effects of various parameters on its catalytic performance were evaluated. The results of catalytic studies show that compound 1 can efficiently catalyze the chemical CO2 fixation reaction under mild conditions. The amount of co-catalyst, temperature of the reaction, nature of the solvent and also the substituent connected to the epoxide ring are some of the important parameters that have considerable effects on the catalytic activity of 1.

Abstract
A new mononuclear tungsten coordination compound, [WO2L(CH3OH)] (1), was synthesized by the reaction of WCl6 and H2L (H2L = (E)-4-amino-N'-(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene)benzohydrazide) in methanol. Both the H2L and compound 1 were characterized by elemental analysis and UV-Vis, FT-IR and NMR spectroscopic methods. The molecular structure of compound 1 was also determined by single crystal X-ray analysis which confirmed the compound is a mononuclear coordination compound of cis-dioxidotungsten(vi) containing a free amine functionality on the ligand. Compound 1 was supported on propionyl chloride-functionalized silica gel by amidification reaction to obtain a heterogeneous catalyst. The obtained heterogeneous catalyst was characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), diffuse-reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and its catalytic activity was investigated in the epoxidation of olefins with hydrogen peroxide under solvent free conditions. The catalyst was successfully recovered several times and the recovered catalyst was also characterized by various methods including FT-IR, DRS, TGA, SEM and EDX analyses. The results indicated this heterogeneous catalytic system is an effective and selective catalyst for epoxidation of olefins and can be reused several times without significant change in its catalytic activity.

Abstract
An intermediate compound, [{PtFe(piam)2(NH3)2(OCH3)}2(μ-OCH3)2](ClO4)2 (1, piam = pivalamidate), in the synthetic process to form [Pt2Fe(piam)4(NH3)4](ClO4)3 (2) by mixing cis-[Pt(piam)2(NH3)2]·2H2O and iron sources was successfully isolated and characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. In 1, the platinum and iron atoms are bridged by two piam ligands to afford a dinuclear Pt-Fe structure and are further linked to each other by methoxide bridges at the equatorial positions of iron atoms to form a tetranuclear Pt-FeFe-Pt complex. The Pt-Fe distances in 1 are 3.0010(16) and 2.9883(17) Å, which are significantly longer than those in 2 (2.5566(15) and 2.5718(15) Å). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed that the oxidation states are Pt(+2)-Fe(+3)Fe(+3)-Pt(+2) (1) and Pt(+2)-Fe(+3)-Pt(+2) (2) with high-spin (S = 5/2) configurations in iron atoms. The magnetic susceptibility of 1 has a χT value of 5.83 cm3 mol-1 K per Pt(+2)-Fe(+3)Fe(+3)-Pt(+2) unit at 300 K, which decreases down to 0.04 cm3 mol-1 K at 7 K due to antiferromagnetic coupling (J = -28 cm-1) of the two Fe(+3) centers. Compound 2 maintains its trinuclear structure in MeCN, exhibiting reversible one-electron reduction and oxidation, Pt(+2)-Fe(+2)-Pt(+2) ↔ Pt(+2)-Fe(+3)-Pt(+2), at E1/2 = -0.19 V (vs. Fc/Fc+). However, in MeOH, compound 2 is decomposed into a dinuclear structure of Pt-Fe involving an equilibrium between 1 and 2.

Abstract
A series of N-acylhydrazonyl-thienyl derivatives (compounds 2 and 3), mainly of the type 2-(aryl-CH=N-NHCOCH2 )-thiene (2: aryl = substituted-phenyl; 3: aryl = heteroaryl) were evaluated against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Particularly active compound was 3 (heteroaryl = 5-nitrothien-2-yl or 5-nitrofuran-2-yl) with MIC values of 8.5 and 9.0 μM, respectively. Moderately active compounds were compound 3 (heteroaryl = pyridin-2-yl) and compound 2 containing aryl = 2- or 4-hydroxyphenyl groups, with MIC values between 170 and 408 μM. Compound 2 containing OMe, H, F, Cl, Br, CN, and NO2 substituents and compound 3 (heteroaryl = furan-2-yl, thien-2-yl, pyrrol-2-yl, imidazol-2-yl, pyridin-3-yl, and pyridin-4-yl) were all inactive. Clearly, there is no correlation of activity with the electronic effects of the substituents. The activities suggest different modes of biological action of the compounds having nitro-heteroaryl groups, on the one hand, and the 2-hydroxyphenyl or pyridin-2-yl substituents, on the other hand. Compounds having 2- or 4-hydroxyphenyl, 2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl, or 4-hydroxy-3-chlorophenyl were less cytotoxic than ethambutol. It is important to notice that compound 3 (aryl = 5-NO2 -furan-2-yl) exhibited a promising therapeutic index (TI = 1093.90), with a value 4.4 less than that of ethambutol. Compounds 2 and 3 exist in DMSO or MeOD solutions as mixtures of EC(O)N /EC=N and ZC(O)N /EC=N conformers.
