Syntheses, crystal structure, and photoelectric properties of two selenoantimonates A-Zn-Sb-Se (A = Rb and Cs)

Metal chalcogenides, as a new class of semiconductor materials, have a broad range of applications in synthetic chemistry due to their rich structures and excellent properties. We have synthesized two selenoantimonates A4Zn2Sb2Se7 [A = Rb(1), Cs(2)] under solvothermal conditions in the visible region using a band gap optimization strategy with alkali metals as structure-directing agents. Compounds 1 and 2 have a two-dimensional layered structure consisting of charge-balanced Rb+(1) or Cs+(2) cations and [Zn2Sb2Se7]4- anions with novel 20-membered rings (20-MR) [Zn6Sb4Se10] with an aperture of 5.6949 × 13.7741 Å2 formed in the middle. Furthermore, we have investigated the crystal structure, band gap, photoelectronic properties, and energy band structure.

An Organic Hybrid Indium-Telluride Incorporating Binuclear Complexes [In2(ea)4]2+ with a Bridging Oxygen Donor

The new organic hybrid indium-telluride [In₂(ea)₂Te₂]_n (1; Hea = ethanolamine) exhibits a new type of one-dimensional polymeric chain based on the linkages of dinuclear [In₂(ea)₄]²⁺ and [In₂Te₄]^2- units, which offers the first example of an indium-telluride framework incorporating binuclear complexes [In₂(ea)₄]²⁺ with a bridging O donor. 1 shows a distinctive photocurrent response and photocatalytic properties under visible-light illumination.

A Copper(I)-Thioarsenate(III) Inorganic Framework Directed by [Ni(en)3]2

One novel three-dimensional (3-D) copper(I)-thioarsenate(III) [Ni(en)₃]Cu₄As₄S₉ (1, en = ethylenediamine) has been solvothermally prepared with the utilization of the in situ formation of [Ni(en)₃]²⁺ complex as structure-directing agent (SDA). 1 contains cubane-like [Cu₈S₁₂]^16- clusters and rare tetrameric [As₄S₉]^6- units, which are interconnected to generate the first example of a 3-D anionic framework [Cu₄As₄S₉]_n^2n-, topologically identical to pyrite, and having large channels filled by [Ni(en)₃]²⁺ complex cations. 1 is a potential wide-band-gap semiconductor with an energy gap of 1.91 eV that exhibits selectively photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue under visible-light irradiation. The density functional theory calculation, photocurrent response, and magnetic properties of 1 were also investigated.

The solvothermal synthesis and characterization of quaternary arsenic chalcogenides CsTMAsQ3 (TM = Hg, Cd; Q = S, Se) using Cs+ as a structure directing agent: from 1D anionic chains to 2D anionic layers

Four new quaternary transition metal arsenic chalcogenide Cs-TM-As-Q compounds (TM = Hg, Cd; Q = S, Se) were synthesized using different mixed solvents. A 1,4-diaminobutane(1,4-dab)/water mixed solvent system was used to solvothermally synthesize the selenoarsenates CsTMAsSe₃ (TM = Hg (1), Cd (2)). In 1, the eight-membered ring anion chain consists of trigonal-planar [HgSe₃] and trigonal-pyramid [AsSe₃]. Compound 2 is similar to the eight-membered ring chain anion of compound 1, and [CdAsSe₃]^- further joins, through μ₃-Se and Cd, to form the layer anions [CdAsSe₃]^-. A 2-diaminopropane (1,2-dap) and water mixed solvent system was used to synthesize two thioarsenates, Cs₂TM₂As₂S₆ (TM = Cd (3), Hg (4)). Compounds 3, 4 and 2 are isostructural; the Cd and Hg atoms are four coordinated. Compounds 1-4 utilize Cs⁺ cations as a structural directing agent. Finally, the structural and optical properties of the novel series of arsenic chalcogenides were characterized.

NiII formate complexes with bi- and tridentate nitrogen-donor ligands: synthesis, characterization, and magnetic and thermal properties

New Ni^II formate complexes were synthesized and characterized to exhibit low decomposition temperatures to produce pure metallic nickel.

Utilization of mixtures of aromatic N-donor ligands of different coordination ability for the solvothermal synthesis of thiostannate containing molecules

Utilization of mixtures of differently coordinating aromatic N-donor ligands leads to the formation of the two new compounds {[Ni(phen)2]2Sn2S6}·4,4'-bipy·½H2O I and {[Ni(phen)2]2Sn2S6}·2,2'-bipy II that could be prepared under solvothermal conditions (4,4'-bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine, C10H8N2; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, C12H8N2; 2,2'-bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine, C10H8N2). In the structures of both compounds Ni-S bond formation is observed which is highly unusual when only bidentate N-donor ligands are applied in the reaction mixture. The detailed analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the presence of 4,4'-bipy and 2,2'-bipy molecules are essential for the stabilization of the arrangement of the constituents. The main structural motif {[Ni(phen)2]2Sn2S6} is arranged generating off center parallel stacking of the phen ligands. The empty spaces between the {[Ni(phen)2]2Sn2S6} moieties are occupied by either 2,2'-bipy (I) or 4,4'-bipy (II) molecules which are oriented towards the phen ligands to form intermolecular π-π interactions.

Photo-electroactive ternary chalcogenido-indate-stannates with a unique 2-D porous structure

A series of photo-electroactive 2-D In–Sn–Q ternary compounds are prepared using metal–phenanthroline complex templates. The 2-D network joint of In–Sn–Q is a (In/Sn)₃Q₃ six-membered ring, which is different from the Sn₃S₄ pseudosemicube of most 2-D Sn–Q binary compounds.
