Abstract
A stable 3d-4f heterometallic cluster, namely, {Dy4Ni5L10(NO3)4(CO3)4(CH3OH)2}·CH3CN (Dy4Ni5, HL = 8-hydroxyquinoline), has been solvothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. The compound exhibits an interesting structure in which a tetrahedron based on 4f ions interpenetrates with a square pyramid based on 3d ions. Besides, a unique intermolecular interaction was found in Dy4Ni5, giving rise to its high stability not only when it is in the solid state but also when it dissolves in organic solvents. In addition, the magnetic behavior of solid Dy4Ni5 and the magneto-optical activity of the Dy4Ni5 solution were also studied.

Abstract
In an assisted self-assembly approach starting from the [Mn6 O2 (piv)10 (4-Me-py)2 (pivH)2 ] cluster a family of Mn-Ln compounds (Ln=Pr-Yb) was synthesised. The reaction of [Mn6 O2 (piv)10 (4-Me-py)2 (pivH)2 ] (1) with N-methyldiethanolamine (mdeaH2 ) and Ln(NO3 )3 ⋅ 6H2 O in MeCN generally yields two main structure types: for Ln=Tb-Yb a previously reported Mn5 Ln4 motif is obtained, whereas for Ln=Pr-Eu a series of Mn7 Ln3 clusters is obtained. Within this series the GdIII analogue represents a special case because it shows both structural types as well as a third Mn2 Ln2 inverse butterfly motif. Variation in reaction conditions allows access to different structure types across the whole series. This prompts further studies into the reaction mechanism of this cluster assisted self-assembly approach. For the Mn7 Ln3 analogues reported here variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements suggest that antiferromagnetic interactions between the spin carriers are dominant. Compounds incorporating Ln=NdIII (2), SmIII (3) and GdIII (5) display SMM behaviour. The slow relaxation of the magnetisation for these compounds was confirmed by ac measurements above 1.8 K.

Abstract
A series of 3d-4f heterometallic cluster incorporated polyoxoniobates (PONbs) with different magnetic properties were first made and characterized. This work not only provides a promising strategy to make new heterometallic cluster incorporated PONbs but also demonstrates an ideal model to probe how transition-metal ions influence the magnetic property of PONbs.

Abstract
A series of novel 3D 3d-4f heterometallic cluster-based coordination polymers, [Ln4Cr4(μ3-O)4(μ4-O)4(NA)8(H2O)12]·xH2O (Ln = 1-Gd, 2-Tb, 3-Er; HNA = nicotinic acid; x = 13 (1-Gd), 11.33 (2-Tb), 15 (3-Er)), have been successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method using nicotinic acid as bridging ligand. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis indicated that the basic unit of Ln4Cr4 shows a butterfly-shaped structure. Furthermore, each Ln4Cr4 cluster connects with other four Ln4Cr4 clusters by bridging NA- ligands to form a 3D structure containing interesting 1D honeycomb-shaped coordination nanotubes. The variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements of compound 1 revealed that the existence of antiferromagnetic (AF) coupling between the metal ions in the Gd4Cr4 clusters. Field-dependent isothermal magnetization studies displayed that the magnetic entropy change (-ΔSm) value of 1-Gd reached 22.05 J K-1 kg-1.

Abstract
Two isomorphic heterometallic 3d-4f cluster-based materials, formulated [Gd8Cr4(IN)18(μ3-O)2(μ3-OH)6(μ4-O)4(H2O)10]·13H2O (1) and [Tb8Cr4(IN)18(μ3-O)2(μ3-OH)6(μ4-O)4(H2O)10]·13H2O (2) (abbreviation: {Ln8Cr4}: Ln = Gd3+ (1); Tb3+ (2); HIN = isonicotinic acid), were achieved by hydro-/solvothermal method through using the ligand HIN. X-ray diffraction analysis illustrates eight lanthanide ions (Ln = Gd3+, Tb3+) and four transition-metal ions (Cr3+) of {Ln8Cr4} were constructed from two classical "drum-like" {Ln4Cr2} structures associated by organic ligands HIN, displaying a one-dimensional wave chain structure, which is rare. The magnetic properties of {Gd8Cr4} were inspected and showed the existence of antiferromagnetic coupling interactions between contiguous metal ions. On top of this, the magnetic entropy change of ΔS m can attain 23.40 J kg-1 K-1 (44.90 mJ cm-3 K-1) at about 3 K and ΔH = 7 T. Besides, fluorescence measurements of {Tb8Cr4} display typical characteristic Tb-based luminescence.

Abstract
By introduction of trilacunary Keggin-type polyoxometalate to the hydrothermal reaction system of Cr3+, Ln3+ and phthalic acid, a series of novel {Cr4Ln4} heterometallic clusters with the formula Cs2[Cr4Ln4(μ4-O)4(μ3-O)4(C8H4O4)4(H2O)12](H3SiW12O40)Cl·23H2O (1-Ln, Ln = Ce, Pr, Nd) and [Cr4Ln4(μ4-O)4(μ3-O)4(C8H4O4)4(H2O)10](H6SiW12O40)Cl2·18H2O (2-Ln, Ln = Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er) have been obtained. Single-crystal structural analyses show that 1-Ln and 2-Ln constitute the first cases of Cr–Ln heterometallic clusters stabilized by inorganic polyoxometalate anions and organic ligands. Optical spectra studies demonstrate that 1-Ln and 2-Ln are narrow-gap semiconductors with band gaps of about 1.5 eV. Magnetic investigation shows that compound 2-Dy is a potential single molecule magnet. By introduction of trilacunary Keggin-type polyoxometalate to the hydrothermal reaction system of Cr3+, Ln3+ and phthalic acid, a series of novel {Cr4Ln4} heterometallic clusters have been obtained.![]()

Abstract
Two novel 3D pure inorganic compounds based on [Cr2Dy4(μ4-O)2(μ3-OH)4]10+ cluster units and sulfate anions are presented. Both complexes exhibit single-molecule-magnet (SMM)-like behavior. Permutation of the magnetic moment direction among SMM-like cluster units has a significant effect on the performance of molecular nanomagnets, and directional consistency shows obvious advantages.

Abstract
Three dodecanuclear 3d-4f coordination clusters, [CrIII6LnIII6(μ3-OH)8(tbdea)6(C6H5COO)16]·2H2O (Ln = Dy (1), Y (2)) and [CoIII6DyIII6(μ3-OH)8(nbdea)6(m-CH3C6H4COO)16]·2H2O·2CH3CN (3), have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions and characterized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that all three compounds possess an analogous {MIII6LnIII6} core (M = Cr, Co; Ln = Dy, Y) and dc magnetic susceptibility studies indicated that the magnetic exchange couplings between DyIII ions are dominant antiferromagnetic, while the CrIII-DyIII interactions are weakly ferromagnetic. Furthermore, the ac magnetic susceptibility measurements showed that both CrIII6DyIII6 compound 1 and CoIIi6DyIII6 compound 3 containing highly anisotropic DyIII ions displayed single-molecule magnetic (SMM) behavior with the energy barrier Ueff increasing from 12.8 K (for 1) to 20.8 K (for 3), indicating that weak 3d-4f exchange couplings enhance the QTM and reduce the energy barrier.
