Abstract
In today’s analytical trends, there is an ever-increasing importance of polymeric materials for low molecular weight compounds including amines and drugs because they can act as carriers or capture amines or drugs. The use of this type of materials will allow the development of modern materials for the chromatographic column beds and the substrates of selective sensors. Moreover, these kinds of materials could be used as a drug carrier. Therefore, the aim of this study is presenting the synthesis and complexing properties of star-shaped oxiranes as a new sensor for the selective complexation of low molecular weight compounds. Propylene oxide and selected oxirane monomers with carbazolyl in the substituent were selected as the monomers in this case and tetrahydrofuran as its solvent. The obtained polymer structures were characterized using the MALDI-TOF. It was found that in the initiation step potassium hydride deprotonates the monomer molecule and takes also part in the nucleophilic substitution. The resulting polymeric material preferably cross-linked with selected di-oxiranes (1,2,7,8-diepoksyoktan in respect ratio 3:1 according to active center) was then used as a stationary phase in the column and thin layer chromatography for amine separation and identification. Sorption ability of the resulting deposits was determined using a quartz microbalance (QCMB). The study was carried out in stationary mode and flow cells to simulate actual operating phase conditions. Based on changes in electrode vibration frequency, the maximum amount of adsorbed analyte and the best conditions for its sorption were determined.

Abstract
Cation and anion recognition have both played central roles in the development of supramolecular chemistry. Much of the associated research has focused on the development of receptors for individual cations or anions, as well as their applications in different areas. Rarely is complexation of the counterions considered. In contrast, ion pair recognition chemistry, emerging from cation and anion coordination chemistry, is a specific research field where co-complexation of both anions and cations, so-called ion pairs, is the center of focus. Systems used for the purpose, known as ion pair receptors, are typically di- or polytopic hosts that contain recognition sites for both cations and anions and which permit the concurrent binding of multiple ions. The field of ion pair recognition has blossomed during the past decades. Several smaller reviews on the topic were published roughly 5 years ago. They provided a summary of synthetic progress and detailed the various limiting ion recognition modes displayed by both acyclic and macrocyclic ion pair receptors known at the time. The present review is designed to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the chemistry of macrocycle-based ion pair receptors. We specifically focus on the relationship between structure and ion pair recognition, as well as applications of ion pair receptors in sensor development, cation and anion extraction, ion transport, and logic gate construction.

Abstract
We have performed a series of calculations using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) for 1-methylamideanthraquinone (MAAQ). In the S0 state of MAAQ, amide group is coplanar with anthraquinone, and an intramolecular hydrogen bond [Formula: see text] is formed. The [Formula: see text] transition has an intramolecular charge transfer character. Two stable structures (planar nMAAQ and twisted tMAAQ) have been obtained in the S1 state of MAAQ. Thereinto, nMAAQ is lower by 0.105[Formula: see text]eV than tMAAQ in energy, so nMAAQ is the dominant conformation in the S1 state of MAAQ and the emission spectra of tMAAQ cannot be observed in the solution of MAAQ. Excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) between C[Formula: see text]O and N–H was not observed in the S1 state of MAAQ. Upon addition of fluoride anion, only twisted conformations were obtained in both S0 and S1 states of MAAQ-F[Formula: see text]. An intermolecular hydrogen bond [Formula: see text] is formed in the S0 state, and intermolecular proton transfer happens in the S1 state for MAAQ-F[Formula: see text].

Abstract
Previous work on a ditopic receptor based on a tripodal phosphine oxide core demonstrated preferential enhancement of bromide binding over chloride or iodide in the presence of lithium cation. Current studies on an elongated receptor provide evidence that preferential bromide binding enhancement in the presence of lithium cation is common to this receptor class in general, and that lengthening of the receptor results in an overall increase in halide association. Furthermore, the extended receptor shows a strong preference for Li+ binding in solution.
