Abstract
The development of sensitive methods for alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity analysis is an important analytical topic. Based on the stimulus-responsive lanthanide coordination polymer, a simple ratiometric fluorescence sensing strategy was proposed to detect ALP activity. A carbon dot (CD) doped fluorescent supramolecular lanthanide coordination polymer (CDs@Tb-GMP) was prepared with Tb3+ and the ligand guanine single nucleotide (GMP). To construct a ratiometric fluorescence biosensor, the fluorescence of Tb-GMP was used as a response signal, and the fluorescence of CDs was used as a reference signal due to its good stability. When excited at 290 nm, the polymer network Tb-GMP emits characteristic fluorescence at 545 nm, while the CDs encapsulated in the polymer network emit fluorescence at 370 nm. After adding ALP to the system, the substrate GMP can be hydrolyzed by ALP, resulting in the destruction of the polymer network. Accordingly, the fluorescence of Tb-GMP significantly decreased, while the fluorescence of CDs slightly increased due to their release from the polymer network. By comparing the relationship between the fluorescence intensity ratio of the two signals and the concentration of ALP, sensitive detection of ALP could be achieved with the linear range from 0.5 to 80 U L-1 and a detection limit of 0.13 U L-1. Furthermore, the proposed ratiometric sensing system was applied to the detection of ALP in human serum samples with desirable results, indicating potential application in clinical diagnosis.

Abstract
A novel donor-acceptor fluorescent sensor was designed and synthesized. The sensor exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity to Zn2+ in acetonitrile solution. When 3.0 equiv. of Zn2+ was added gradually, the emission intensity at 500 nm increased 54-fold, accompanied by the fluorescent color of the solution changed from dark to green. Job's plot and ESI-MS were carried out to verify a 1:1 stoichiometric complex was formed between the sensor and Zn2+. The limit of detection (LOD) to Zn2+ was measured to be 2.81 × 10-9 mol L-1. Moreover, the sensor not only could be used to detect Zn2+ in practical water samples with high accuracy, but also could be made into test paper for the qualitative detection for Zn2+.

Abstract
Immunoassays such as the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) are utilized extensively for detecting protein biomarkers and small molecules in healthcare, environmental monitoring, and food analysis. Unfortunately, the current strategies for immunoassays often require sophisticated apparatus such as a microplate reader, which might not be available in resource-limited areas. To mitigate this problem, we designed a compact smartphone based-device and a multicolor response immunosensor. First, we designed a compact and cost-effective 3D-printed attachment, where a light-emitting diode was used as a light excitation source and a smartphone captured the fluorescent emission signals. Second, by combining quantum dots hybrid and chemical redox reaction, multiple color responses were displayed in the presence of the analyte at different concentrations. Third, solutions with distinct tonality could be readily distinguished by the naked eye and they were suitable for quantitative analysis using the hue-saturation-lightness color space based on a smartphone application. The versatility of the proposed sensing system was demonstrated by implementing an indirect competitive ELISA for analyzing trace drug residues in foodstuffs. The multicolor response of this sensing strategy allows us to visually quantify drug residues in foodstuffs. Moreover, the smartphone-based immunosensor can assess the exact concentration of the analyte by using a self-designed mobile application. The proposed assay provides a highly sensitive performance that the limit of detection was 0.37 ng/mL by visual detection and 0.057 ng/mL using the compact device. Due to its advantages in terms of portability, straightforward visual detection, high sensitivity, and cost effectiveness, the proposed immunosensor has great potential for applications in areas without access to laboratories or expensive infrastructure.

Abstract
It is well-known that ClO- and SCN- can cause adverse effects on the environment and organisms; therefore, development of new strategies for detecting ClO- and SCN-, especially in water, are highly desirable. Here, we present luminous Eu(iii) complex-functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticles encapsulated into zeolitic imidazolate framework materials (nano-ZIF-8) and successfully employ this nano-MOF as a fluorescence probe for selective and sensitive detection of ClO- and SCN-. The introduction of ClO- into nano-ZIF-8 solution induced a significant decrease in the characteristic fluorescence emission of Eu3+ at 613 nm. However, strong fluorescence emission was again observed when SCN- was successively injected into the prepared nano-ZIF-8-ClO-. Thus, a novel fluorescence system for simultaneous detection of free ClO- and SCN- was established. On the basis of the superior adsorption performance of nano-MOF materials, free residual ClO- and SCN- in water was rapidly, sensitively and selectively detected with a detection limit of 0.133 nM and 0.204 nM, respectively. Moreover, nano-ZIF-8 was successfully used for monitoring the concentration levels of ClO- and SCN- in specimens of tap water and Yellow River water. Furthermore, the reversibility and regeneration of nano-ZIF-8 in sensing ClO- and SCN- is advantageous for applications of nano-ZIF-8 in solid-state sensing and anti-counterfeiting. As far as we know, this is the first time that nano-MOFs have been used as a selective fluorescence probe for ClO-/SCN- detection and anti-counterfeiting.

Abstract
Fluorescent chemosensors for detecting single anions have been largely synthesized. However, the simultaneous detection and degradation of multiple anions remain a major challenge. Herein we report the synthesis of a white emission nanoprobe on the basis of a Coumarin-Rhodamine CR1-Eu complex coordinated to dipicolinic acid (dpa)-PEG-Fe3O4 nanoparticles for the selective detection of ClO(-) and SCN(-) ions on controlling by a logic gate. The obtained nanoprobe exhibits three individual primary colors (blue, green, and red) as well as white emission at different excitation energies. Interestingly, this nanoprobe shows a marked rose red to violet emission color change in response to ClO(-), a reversible violet to rose red emission color change in response to SCN(-), and high ClO(-) and SCN(-) selectivity and sensitivity with a detection limit of 0.037 and 0.250 nM, respectively. Furthermore, the SCN(-) and ClO(-) can degrade simultaneously through the redox reaction between ClO(-) and SCN(-).

Abstract
A new type of ratiometric fluorescent probe capable of detecting Hg(2+) ions at nanomolar-concentration level with high selectivity was developed based on an indole-trizole-rhodamine triad and its practicability for intracellular Hg(2+) sensing was verified. The as-prepared fluorescent probe is capable of detecting Hg(2+) over other competing metal ions including Ag(+) with high selectivity. The synergistic effect of Hg(2+)-assisted conversion of the nonfluorescent ring-closed rhodamine moiety to the highly fluorescent ring-open form as well as the fluorescence signal amplification originating from the Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) from indole-trizole conjugate to rhodamine moiety contributed to a detection limit of 11 nM of the probe for Hg(2+) sensing.

Abstract
On the basis of fluorescent resonance energy transfer, a new fluorophore dyad (L) bearing rhodamine B and naphthalimide was developed as fluorescent ratiometric chemosensor for Hg(2+) in aqueous solution. L exhibited high selectivity and excellent sensitivity towards Hg(2+) with a broad pH span (1.0-8.0) and the detection limit of L was 2.11×10(-8) M. Sensor L for the detection of Hg(2+) was rapid and the recognizing event could complete in 2.5 min. A significant change in the color could be used for naked-eye detection. The selective fluorescence response of L to Hg(2+) is due to the Hg(2+)-promoted ring opening of spirolactam of rhodamine moiety, leading to a cyclization reaction of thiourea moiety. In addition, fluorescence imaging experiments of Hg(2+) in living EC 109 cells demonstrated its value of practical applications in biological systems.

Abstract
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity is regarded as an important biomarker in medical diagnosis. A ratiometric fluorescent probe is developed based on a phosphorylated chalcone derivative for ALP activity assay and visualization in living cells. The probe is soluble in water and emits greenish-yellow in aqueous buffers. In the presence of ALP, the emission of probe changes to deep red gradually with ratiometric fluorescent response due to formation and aggregation of enzymatic product, whose fluorescence involves both excited-state intramolecular proton transfer and aggregation-induced emission processes. The linear ratiometric fluorescent response enables in vitro quantification of ALP activity in a range of 0-150 mU/mL with a detection limit of 0.15 mU/mL. The probe also shows excellent biocompatibility, which enables it to apply in ALP mapping in living cells.

Abstract
Based on a through bond energy transfer (TBET) between rhodamine and naphthalimide fluorophores, a fluorescent ratiometric chemosensor L was designed and prepared for highly selective detection of Fe(3+) in aqueous solution and in living EC109 cells. These significant changes in the fluorescence color could be used for naked-eye detection. The reversibility established the potential of the probe as chemosensor for Fe(3+) detection.

Abstract
A novel approach to suppress the side reactions observed in the reaction-based gold-sensing systems based on the alkyne activation is disclosed. By elevating steric strain around the reaction site, the gold ion promoted ring-opening process in rhodamine-lactam probes is significantly accelerated, which also leads to suppression of those possible side reactions. As a result, the probes show very high sensitivity in addition to excellent selectivity toward gold species. Furthermore, bioimaging of gold species in live cells was demonstrated with a FRET version.

Abstract
The metal ion induced absorption and emission signaling pattern of rhodamine coupled bis-(aminopropyl)-piperazine (1-3) and (aminoethyl)-piperazine (4) based probes evaluated in MeCN as well as in an MeCN-H2O binary mixture medium revealed that these probes exhibit optical signaling perturbations to a varying extent in MeCN, however, their complexation induced signaling could be tuned selectively towards Hg(II) in the presence of an aqueous component in the solvent medium where competitive interactions such as metal-probe interactions and hydration of metal ions play the determining factor to induce aqueous promoted Hg(II) selectivity. Attachment of another fluorophore (anthracene and nitrobenzofurazan moieties in 2 and 3 respectively) at the other end of the rhodamine coupled bis-(aminopropyl)-piperazine receptor enabled these probes to facilitate a complexation induced fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) from the excited fluorophore to the ring-opened rhodamine along with contributions through operative PET inhibition and rhodamine delactonization processes. The enhancement in absorption transition of these probes at ~557 nm upon selective Hg(II)-complexation and consequent colourless to pink colour change in the solution imply a chromogenic signaling pattern whereas simultaneous fluorescence amplification and/or FRET initiation lead to fluorogenic signaling to facilitate detection at lower concentration. The Hg(II)-selective photo-physical spectral modulation in the presence of other competitive metal ions, and their reversible dual channel signaling pattern under the action of counter anions or chelating agents such as EDTA or ethylenediamine establish the potential of these probes for highly selective, sensitive and reversible 'OFF-ON-OFF' detection of Hg(II). The complexation induced optical signaling pattern of probes with a propyl-linker in their receptor (1-3) in comparison with that of 4 consisting of an ethyl-spacer indicate that signaling probe design with a substituted 'aminoalkyl-lactonized-rhodamine' subunit preferentially exhibit Hg(II) selective and sensitive dual mode signaling in an organic-aqueous mixture medium irrespective of carbon-length of the flexible alkyl spacer.
