Abstract
A new and general photocatalytic Kharasch-type addition/1,5-(SN'')-substitution cascade of 1,7-diynes with alkyl halides such as BrCCl3 and CBr4 was reported for the first time, and used to produce 65 hitherto unreported β-gem-dihalovinyl ketones/aldehydes with moderate to excellent yields in a highly regioselective manner. This reaction tolerates a wide scope of substrates, which offers a green and efficient entry to fabricate synthetically important β-gem-dihalovinyl carbonyl scaffolds. Notably, the late-stage application of these resulting β-gem-dihalovinyl carbonyls shows high and unique reactivity profiles and demonstrates the versatility of their derivatization.

Abstract
Three metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), [Cd(Hpzbpdc)(H2 O)]⋅H2 O (1), [Mn2 (Hpzbpdc)2 (dmf)2 ] (2), and [H2 N(CH3 )2 ]0.5 [Eu(Hpzbpdc)1.5 (HCOO)0.5 (dmf)0.5 ]⋅DMF⋅0.5 H2 O (3) (H3 pzbpdc=4'-(2 H-pyrazol-3-yl)biphenyl-3,5-dicarboxylic acid), have been solvothermally synthesized from one pyrazoyl-carboxyl bifunctional ligand and characterized by single-crystal structures. The H3 pzbpdc ligand in 1-3 displays various coordination modes through the pyrazoyl and carboxyl groups. Both 1 and 3 contain dinuclear cluster building units and reveal a four-connected gismondine (gis) zeolite 3D framework and a 2D grid layer structure, respectively. Compound 1 shows blue luminescence, compound 3 reveals red luminescence that arises from efficient energy transfer from the organic ligand to the europium(III) ion, and compound 2 reveals an uncommon (3,8)-connected tfz-d; UO3 net with a rare Mn4 (COO)6 cluster and shows antiferromagnetic interactions between the manganese(II) ions.

Abstract
The [n]dendralenes are a family of acyclic hydrocarbons which, by virtue of their ability to rapidly generate structural complexity, have attracted significant recent synthetic attention. [3]Dendralene through [8]dendralene have been previously prepared but no higher member of the family has been reported to date. Here, we describe the first chemical syntheses of the "higher" dendralenes, [9]dendralene through [12]dendralene. We also report a detailed investigation into the spectroscopic properties and chemical reactivity of the complete family of fundamental hydrocarbons, [3]dendralene to [12]dendralene. These studies reveal the first case of diminishing alternation in behavior in a series of related structures. We also report a comprehensive series of computational studies, which trace this dampening oscillatory effect in both spectroscopic measurements and chemical reactivity to conformational preferences.
