Abstract
Metal nanoclusters (MeNCs), composed of a few to hundreds of metal atoms and appropriate surface ligands, have attracted extensive interest in the electrochemiluminescence (ECL) realm owing to their molecule-like optical, electronic, and physicochemical attributes and are strongly anticipated for discrete energy levels, fascinating electrocatalytic activity, and good biocompatibility. Over the past decade, huge efforts have been devoted to the synthesis, properties, and application research of ECL-related MeNCs, and this field is still a subject of heightened concern. Therefore, this perspective aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the recent advances of MeNCs in the ECL domain, mainly covering the emerged ECL available MeNCs, unique chemical and optical properties, and the general ECL mechanisms. Synthesis strategies for desirable ECL performance are further highlighted, and the resulting ECL sensing applications utilizing MeNCs as luminophores, quenchers, and substrates are discussed systematically. Finally, we anticipate the future prospects and challenges in the development of this area.

Abstract
New bimetallic gold/silver nanoclusters (NCs) are reported that display strong blue fluorescence with excitation/emission maxima at 370/455 nm, decay times of around 14 ns for the main components, and a quantum yield of around 20%. The NCs were synthesized by using L-tryptophan (L-Trp) as the template to react with tetrachloroauric acid and silver nitrate at 120 °C for 4 h in a one-pot reaction. Their fluorescence is around 5 times stronger than that of pure gold nanoclusters. The fluorescence of the bimetallic NCs is strongly reduced in the presence of the antitumor drugs methotrexate (MTX) and doxorubicin (DOX) due to an inner filter effect. Response to MTX is linear in the 2.5-150 μM concentration range, and to DOX in the 2.5-150 μM concentration range. The detection limits are as low as 2.5 nM and 3 nM, respectively. The recoveries from spiked serum are between 87.7% - 101.2% for MTX and between 86.2%-105.4% for DOX. Graphical abstract Schematic presentation of the synthesis of Au/AgNCs and the fluorometric determination of methotrexate (MTX) and doxorubicin (DOX) based on the inner filter effect.

Abstract
In this work, we present a simple and rapid method to synthesize red luminescent gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) with high quantum yield (QY, ~16%), excellent photostability and biocompatibility. Next, we fabricated a solid membrane by loading the as-prepared AuNCs in an agar matrix. Different from nanomaterials dispersed in solution, the AuNCs-based solid membrane has distinct advantages including convenience of transportation, while still maintaining strong red luminescence, and relatively long duration storage without aggregation. Taking hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as a typical example, we then employed the AuNCs as a luminescent probe and investigated their sensing performance, either in solution phase or on a solid substrate. The detection of H2O2 could be achieved in wide concentration ranges over 805 nM–1.61 mM and 161 μM–19.32 mM in solution and on a solid membrane, respectively, with limits of detection (LOD) of 80 nM and 20 μM. Moreover, the AuNCs-based membrane could also be used for visual detection of H2O2 in the range of 0–3.22 mM. In view of the convenient synthesis route and attractive luminescent properties, the AuNCs-based membrane presented in this work is quite promising for applications such as optical sensing, fluorescent imaging, and photovoltaics.

Abstract
We report herein a flexible fluorescent nanofibrous membrane (FNFM) prepared by decorating the gold nanocluster (AuNC) on electrospun polysulfone nanofibrous membrane for rapid visual colorimetric detection of H2O2. The provision of AuNC coupled to NFM has proven to be advantageous for facile and quick visualization of the obtained results, permitting instant, selective, and on-site detection. We strongly suggest that the fast response time is ascribed to the enhanced probabilities of interaction with AuNC located at the surface of NF. It has been observed that the color change from red to blue is dependent on the concentration, which is exclusively selective for hydrogen peroxide. The detection limit has been found to be 500 nM using confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM), visually recognizable with good accuracy and stability. A systematic comparison was performed between the sensing performance of FNFM and AuNC solution. The underlying sensing mechanism is demonstrated using UV spectra, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The corresponding disappearance of the characteristic emissions of gold nanoclusters and the emergence of a localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) band, stressing this unique characteristic of gold nanoparticles. Hence, it is evident that the conversion of nanoparticles from nanoclusters has taken place in the presence of H2O2. Our work here has paved a new path for the detection of bioanalytes, highlighting the merits of rapid readout, sensitivity, and user-friendliness.
