Abstract
Despite considerable progress in the multifaceted chemistry of non-redox-metal alkylperoxides, the knowledge about magnesium alkylperoxides is in its infancy and only started to gain momentum. Harnessing the well-defined dimeric magnesium tert-butylperoxide [(f5BDI)Mg(μ-η2:η1-OOtBu)]2 incorporating a fluorinated β-diketiminate ligand, herein, we demonstrate its transformation at ambient temperature to a spiro-type, tetranuclear magnesium alkylperoxide [(f5BDI)2Mg4(μ-OOtBu)6]. The latter compound was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and its molecular structure can formally be considered as a homoleptic magnesium tert-butylperoxide [Mg(µ-OOtBu)2]2 terminated by two monomeric magnesium tert-butylperoxides. The formation of the tetranuclear magnesium alkylperoxide not only contradicts the notion of the high instability of magnesium alkylperoxides, but also highlights that there is much to be clarified with respect to the solution behaviour of these species. Finally, we probed the reactivity of the dimeric alkylperoxide in model oxygen transfer reactions like the commonly invoked metathesis reaction with the parent alkylmagnesium and the catalytic epoxidation of trans-chalcone with tert-butylhydroperoxide as an oxidant. The results showed that the investigated system is among the most active known catalysts for the epoxidation of enones.

Abstract

While aluminum alkyls are often considered
to be exemplary compounds of main-group organometallics and an in-depth
understanding of their multifaceted chemistry is continually vital,
the controlled oxygenation of organoaluminum complexes still remains
a largely undeveloped area. In the course of our systematic studies
on the relationship between the Lewis acidity of metal centers and
noncovalent interactions in the secondary coordination sphere, we
report the oxygenation of dialkylaluminum complexes incorporating
a pyrrole–ester ligand, as purposefully selected dormant Lewis
acidic octet-compliant model compounds, and the isolation and characterization
of a new, dimeric aluminum tert-butylperoxide and
an unique example of an aluminum oxoethoxide cluster. Our studies
provide a more in-depth look at the diversity and complexity of the
oxygenation chemistry of aluminum alkyls. We report the reactions of dialkylaluminum complexes incorporating
a pyrrole−ester ligand with dioxygen as well as the isolation
of a novel aluminum tert-butylperoxide and an unique
example of aluminum oxoethoxide. Our studies provide a more in-depth
look at the diversity and complexity of the oxygenation chemistry
of aluminum alkyls.

Abstract
In this work, zinc aryloxides supported by monodentate hydroxybiphenyls [ArOH: ortho-phenylphenol (o-XenOH), meta-phenylphenol (m-XenOH), or para-phenylphenol (p-XenOH] and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA) were used to develop active polymeric materials for antifungal agents for agricultural use. The direct reaction of ligand precursor ArOH with ZnEt2 (1 : 2) in a toluene/TMEDA mixture (1 : 10) afforded a series of three isostructural monomeric compounds, namely [Zn(o-XenO)2(TMEDA)] (1), [Zn(m-XenO)2(TMEDA)] (2), and [Zn(p-XenO)2(TMEDA)] (3). These were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and spectroscopic and other analytical methods. The results show that 1-3 are effective initiators for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of l-lactide (l-LA) via bifunctional activation of the monomer with Lewis pairs to give polymers terminated with TMEDA and Zn(OAr)2 as the α- and ω-chain ends, respectively. Combinations of ZnEt2 with two molar equivalents of ArOH proligands were used to synthesize polylactides containing fungicide molecules covalently bonded via ester linkers. The ROP of l-LA initiated by these zinc-based systems could be used for the preparation of polyesters with promising antifungal activities.

Abstract
Six directed hydrogen bonding (H-bonding) interactions allow for the reversible capture and reduction of dioxygen to a trans-1,2-peroxo within a tripodal zinc(II) framework. Spectroscopic studies of the dizinc peroxides, as well as on model zinc diazides, suggest H-bonding contributions serve a dominant role for the binding/activation of these small molecules.

Abstract
This paper reports a series of comparative experiments on the activity of carbon- and oxygen-centred radical species in a model reaction of the radical addition of THF to imines mediated by a series of zinc alkyl/air reaction systems. The study strongly contradicts the notion that generally R˙ radicals are the initiating species in organic reactions mediated by R n M/air systems, and simultaneously demonstrates that oxygen-centred radical species are the key intermediates responsible for the initiation process. In addition, a new efficient RZn(L)/air initiating system for radical organic reactions exampled by a model reaction of radical addition of THF to imines is developed. Moreover, the isolation and structural characterization of the first zinc alkylperoxide supported by a carboxylate ligand, [Zn4(μ3-OOtBu)3(μ4-O)(O2CEt)3]2, as well as the novel octanuclear zinc oxo(alkoxide) aggregate with entrapped O-THF species, [Zn4(μ4-O)(μ3-2-O-THF)(O2CEt)5]2, provide clear mechanistic signatures for the mode of function of the RZn(O2CR')/air system.
