Abstract
The Passerini-Smiles reactions of α-ketophosphonates with nitrophenols has been used as a platform to observe complex cascades involving multiple Smiles transfers coupled with phospha-Brook rearrangement. When using 4-nitrophenols a rare 1,3-Truce-Smiles rearrangement is observed leading to diarylacetamide derivatives. 2-Nitro-derivatives lead to a completely different reactivity pattern that may be explained by a nitro to nitroso conversion followed by a σ-π metathesis. All mechanistic assumptions are confirmed by DFT calculations performed on both families of adducts. The potential of this work has been further demonstrated by the use of N-aryl α-ketoamides as alternative starting materials for these cascades as well as the disclosure of new aza-Nazarov access to hydroxy-indolones.

Abstract
A new efficient synthesis of polysubstituted 3,4-dihydroquinazolines and 4H-3,1-benzothiazines via sequential Passerini/Staudinger/aza-Wittig/addition/nucleophilic substitution reaction has been developed. The three-component Passerini reactions of 2-azidobenzaldehydes 1, benzoic acid (2), and isocyanides 3 produced the azide intermediates 4, which were treated sequentially with triphenylphosphine, isocyanates (or CS2), and secondary amines to give polysubstituted 3,4-dihydroquinazolines 8 and 4H-3,1-benzothiazines 11 in good overall yields through consecutive Passerini/Staudinger/aza-Wittig/addition/nucleophilic substitution reactions.

Abstract
Herein, we report tailored 3-trifluoroacetyl-quinolin-2(1H)-ones (1) as carbonyl and acid surrogates in Passerini- and Ugi-type reactions for the synthesis of α-trifluoromethyl-α-hydroxy carboxamides (4) and α-trifluoromethyl α-amino acids (6) in high yields, respectively. The reaction proceeds under mild reaction conditions via an exocyclic carboximidate intermediate (3). The amide group in compound 1 acts as an acid component as well as a reversible oxygen nucleophile to facilitate the reaction.

Abstract
Few methods are known for the synthesis of nitroindole derivatives. A simple and practical Cs2CO3-promoted method for the synthesis of 6-nitroindole derivatives from enaminones and nitroaromatic compounds has been developed. Two new C-C and C-N bonds were formed in a highly regioselective manner under transition metal-free conditions.

Abstract
Initial conditions disclosed for the Passerini-Smiles reaction are associated with a lack of efficiency that has prevented chemists from using it since its discovery. We wish to report herein our thorough study in the development of new experimental conditions for this coupling between electron-poor phenols, isocyanides, and carbonyl derivatives. These new conditions have been applied to several synthetic strategies towards benzoxazinones.

Abstract
A library of 41 aryloxyimino amides was prepared via solution phase parallel synthesis by extending the multicomponent reaction of (Z)-chlorooximes and isocyanides to the use of electron-deficient phenols. The resulting aryloxyiminoamide derivatives can be used as intermediates for the synthesis of benzo[d]isoxazole-3-carboxamides, dramatically reducing the number of synthetic steps required by other methods reported in literature.

Abstract
A transition-metal-free process for the synthesis of 1,4-dihydroquinoline derivatives starting from simple enaminones with aldehydes via intermolecular cascade cyclization in a one-pot protocol is developed. This methodology affords a variety of products in moderate to good yields. Particularly, the use of the enaminone fragment in 1,4-dihydroquinoline derivatives 3 as a leaving group for further diverse applications with C-nucleophiles is proved to be feasible.
