Flexible Transparent and Free-Standing SiC Nanowires Fabric: Stretchable UV Absorber and Fast-Response UV-A Detector

Transparent and flexible materials are desired for the construction of photoelectric multifunctional integrated devices and portable electronics. Herein, 2H-SiC nanowires are assembled into a flexible, transparent, self-standing nanowire fabric (FTS-NWsF). The as-synthesized ultralong nanowires form high-quality crystals with a few stacking faults. The optical transmission spectra reveal that FTS-NWsF absorbs most incident 200-400 nm light, but remains transparent to visible light. A polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-SiC fabric-PDMS sandwich film device exhibits stable electrical output even when repeatedly stretched by up to 50%. Unlike previous SiC nanowires in which stacking faults are prevalent, the transparent, stretchable SiC fabric shows considerable photoelectric activity and exhibits a rapid photoresponse (rise and decay time < 30 ms) to 340-400 nm light, covering most of the UV-A spectral region. These advances represent significant progress in the design of functional optoelectronic SiC nanowires and transparent and stretchable optoelectronic systems.

Extremely Stable Current Emission of P-Doped SiC Flexible Field Emitters

Novel P-doped SiC flexible field emitters are developed on carbon fabric substrates, having both low E_to of 1.03-0.73 Vμm^-1 up to high temperatures of 673 K, and extremely high current emission stability when subjected to different bending states, bending circle times as well as high temperatures (current emission fluctuations are typically in the range ±2.1%-3.4%).

ZnxGe1-xO 3D micronano structures with excellent performance as anode material in lithium ion battery

As anode material used in power storage device, lithium ion battery (LIB) for example, ZnO has not been recognized as a promising candidate, although which shows advantages like environmental benign, low cost, and large reservation. Several problems, such as volume expansion, pulverization, and active substance detachment because of the particular lithiation kinetics, which result in very high irreversible capacity and following fading, can account for the present situation. Here in this work, we report the self-assembly of ZnxGe1-xO three-dimensional (3D) micronano structures and achieve enormous improvement on both recyclability and rate performance. After the 100th cycle, the capacity remains ∼690 mAh/g at the rate of 100 and ∼510 mA/g at the rate of 500 mAh/g. The capacity recovered rapidly even the rates alternating repeatedly between 50 mA/g and 3.5A/g. Ex situ observation reveals that substance detachment and nanoparticle agglomeration were avoided, benefiting from the firm 3D space configuration. As the Li(+) insertion, the 3D architectures fracture hierarchically with releasing the volume-expansion produced strain. Stable and smooth Li(+)/electrons path would form in these nanoparticles integrated microfragments, which act as the working unit free of further detachment. These facts demonstrate that ZnO based anode materials are anticipant to be good candidate in LIB device through rational design of advanced mirco-nano structures without introduction of carbon coating.

Room-temperature ferromagnetism of 2H-SiC-α-Al2O3 solid solution nanowires and the physical origin

In this work we report the first synthesis of 2H-SiC-α-Al2O3 solid solution (SS) nanowires with 2H-SiC as the host phase. The one dimensional (1D) fake binary-system exhibits interesting room-temperature ferromagnetism and spin-glass-like (SGL) behavior. This novel diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) was designed on the basis of SiC which is the most promising fundamental semiconductor used in next-generation electronics as the substitute for Si. A systematic investigation of the magnetic properties reveals the origin of the material's room-temperature ferromagnetism and spin-glass behavior. Spin-polarized density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the net moment originates from a strong coupling between atoms around local Si vacancies produced by the SS defect reaction. Unlike random defects derived magnetic behavior, the SS resulted magnetism is significant to be utilized in functional devices since it belongs to a stable crystal structure that is possible to be prepared rationally in a controlled manner.
