Abstract
Unraveling the intriguing aspects of the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) phenomenon of multi-modular donor-acceptor-based push-pull systems are of paramount importance considering their promising applications, particularly in solar energy harvesting and light-emitting devices. Herein, a series of symmetrical and unsymmetrical donor-acceptor chromophores 1-6, are designed and synthesized by the Corey-Fuchs reaction via Evano's condition followed by [2+2] cycloaddition retroelectrocyclic ring-opening reaction with strong electron acceptors TCNE and TCNQ in good yields (~60-85 %). The photophysical, electrochemical, and computational studies are investigated to explore the effect of incorporation of strong electron acceptors 1,1,4,4-tetracyanobuta-1,3-diene (TCBD) and dicyanoquinodimethane (DCNQ) with phenothiazine (PTZ) donor. An additional low-lying broad absorption band extended towards the near-infrared (NIR) region suggests charge polarization after the introduction of the electron acceptors in both symmetrical and asymmetrical systems, leading to such strong ICT bands. The electrochemical properties reveal that reduction potentials of 3 and 6 are lower than those of 2 and 5, suggesting DCNQ imparts more on the electronic properties and hence largely contributes to the stabilization of LUMO energy levels than TCBD, in line with theoretical observations. Relative positions of the frontier orbitals on geometry-optimized structures further support accessing donor-acceptor sites responsible for the ICT transitions. Eventually, ultrafast carrier dynamics of the photoinduced species are investigated by femtosecond transient absorption studies to identify their spectral characteristics and target analysis further provides information about different excited states photophysical events including ICT and their associated time profiles. The key findings obtained here related to excited state dynamical processes of these newly synthesized systems are believed to be significant in advancing their prospect of utilization in solar energy conversion and related photonic applications.

Abstract
Small organic molecules with interesting optical and electrochemical properties find applications as organic luminescent materials. In this work, we report the synthesis of novel chalcones with D-A-D and D-A-D-A architecture, followed by their optical, electrochemical, and computational studies. The absorption band of these compounds occurs at 360-480 nm with emission maxima appearing around 513-552 nm. The large Stokes shifts (Δλ) for all compounds (90-132 nm) suggest intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) in the excited states. The molar absorptivity and fluorescence quantum yields were found to be in the range of 1.7-4.26 × 104 M-1 cm-1 and 0.29-0.39, respectively. The electrochemical parameters were determined by using cyclic voltammetry (CV). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations of all compounds were made by using B3LYP/G (d,p) functionals in chloroform and were found to have a good correlation with experimental results. Preliminary studies of absorption, photoluminescence, CV, and their theoretical correlation suggest that these compounds may be optimized for their applications in optoelectronics, sensing, and bioimaging.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of four new tetracyanobutadiene (TCBD) derivatives (1, 3c and 4b-c) incorporating tosylamido and 4-triphenylamino moieties are reported. Along with those of five closely related or differently branched TCBDs derivatives (2, 3a-b, 4c and 5), their linear and (third-order) nonlinear optical properties were investigated by electronic absorption spectroscopy and Z-scan measurements. Among these compounds, the tri-branched compounds 3c and 5 are the most active two-photon absorbers, with effective cross-sections of 275 and 350 GM at 900 nm, respectively. These properties are briefly discussed with the help of DFT calculations, focussing on structural and electronic factors, and contextualized with results obtained previously for related compounds.

Abstract
Boron and tin complexes have been a versatile and very interesting scaffold for the design of nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores. In this paper we present a wide range of reports since the 1990s to date, which include second-order (e.g., second harmonic generation) and third-order (e.g., two-photon absorption) NLO properties. After a short introduction on the origin of the NLO response in molecules, the different features associated with the introduction of these inorganic motifs in the organic-based NLO materials are discussed: Their effect on the accepting/donating capabilities of the substituents, on the efficiency of the π-conjugated linkage, and on the topology of the chromophores which can be tuned from the first generation of “push-pull” chromophores to more sophisticated two- or three-dimensional architectures.

As a typical by-product, small amounts of the sterically crowded pyraza-bole derivative trans-4,8-bis-(3,5-diiso-propyl-pyrazol-1-yl)-1,3,5,7-tetra-iso-propyl-pyraza-bole, C36H62B2H8 or trans-{(3,5- iPr2pz)HB(μ-3,5- iPr2pz)}2, 2, were formed. Both title compounds have been structurally characterized through single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In 1, two isopropyl groups are each disordered over two orientations with occupancy ratios of 0.574 (10):0.426 (10) and 0.719 (16):0.281 (16). In 2, one isopropyl group is similarly disordered, occupancy ratio 0.649 (9):0.351 (9).

Abstract
A series of unsymmetrical (D-A-D1 , D1 -π-D-A-D1 , and D1 -A1 -D-A2 -D1 ; A=acceptor, D=donor) and symmetrical (D1 -A-D-A-D1 ) phenothiazines (4 b, 4 c, 4 c', 5 b, 5 c, 5 d, 5 d', 5 e, 5 e', 5 f, and 5 f') were designed and synthesized by a [2+2] cycloaddition-electrocyclic ring-opening reaction of ferrocenyl-substituted phenothiazines with tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ). The photophysical, electrochemical, and computational studies show a strong charge-transfer (CT) interaction in the phenothiazine derivatives that can be tuned by varying the number of TCNE/TCNQ acceptors. Phenothiazines 4 b, 4 c, 4 c', 5 b, 5 c, 5 d, 5 d', 5 e, 5 e', 5 f and 5 f' show redshifted absorption in the λ=400 to 900 nm region, as a result of a low HOMO-LUMO gap, which is supported by TD-DFT calculations. The electrochemical study exhibits reduction waves at low potential due to strong 1,1,4,4-tetracyanobuta-1,3-diene (TCBD) and cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-ylidene-expanded TCBD acceptors. The incorporation of cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-ylidene-expanded TCBD stabilized the LUMO energy level to a greater extent than TCBD.

Abstract
Multiphoton absorption (MPA) effects have become useful for real applications as well as conceptual predictions. However, most of organic molecules exhibit small Stokes shift and reduced MPA in the highly polar solvents, which may seriously hinder their related applications. In this work, one styrylpyridinium salt has been synthesized, which exhibits outstanding properties such as bright red fluorescence at the wavelength of 626 nm in a highly polar solvent (DMSO). Importantly, it is noted that the material also exhibits strong two- and three-photon absorption action cross-section (δ2PA = 597 GM and δ3PA = 18 × 10-80 cm6∙s2∙photon-2, respectively), which can be excited in near-infrared (NIR) window I (650-900 nm) and NIR window II (1000-1450 nm). Meanwhile, two-photon in vitro bioimaging and MPA induced optical limiting behavior have been successfully demonstrated based on the chromophore.

A series of donor-acceptor ferrocenyl substituted bisthiazoles 3-8 were designed and synthesized by the Pd-catalyzed Suzuki, Heck, and Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions. Their photophysical, electrochemical and computational studies reveal strong donor-acceptor interactions. The photonic and electrochemical studies show that the ferrocenyl bisthiazoles with vinyl linkage ferrocenyl-bisthiazole 4, show better electronic communication compared to rest of the ferrocenyl bisthiazoles. The time dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculation at B3LYP on the ferrocenyl substituted bisthiazoles 3-5 was performed, in which the ferrocenyl-bisthiazole 4 shows strong donor-acceptor interactions compared to the Fc-bisthiazoles 3 and 5. The thermal stability of the ferrocenyl substituted bisthiazoles 3-8 is reported, in which Fc-bisthiazole 8 shows high thermal stability. The single crystal structures of ferrocenyl-bisthiazoles 3 and 5 are reported.

Abstract
Tetracyanobutadiene (TCBD) derivatives of ferrocenyl BODIPYs 2a-2c were designed and synthesized by [2 + 2] cycloaddition-retroelectrocyclization reaction of tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) with meso alkynylated ferrocenyl BODIPYs. The TCBD substituted ferrocenyl BODIPYs were designed in such a way that the distance between the ferrocenyl unit and the TCBD remains constant, whereas the distance between the BODIPY and the TCBD unit varies. The TCBD and BODIPY units were connected directly through a single bond (in 2a), through a phenylacetylene linkage (in 2b) and through a vinyl linkage (in 2c). The photonic and electrochemical properties of ferrocenyl BODIPYs were strongly perturbed by the incorporation of TCBD. The TCBD derivatives 2a-2c show red shifted absorption compared to their precursors 1a-1c. The single crystal structures of TCBD functionalized ferrocenyl BODIPYs 2a and 2c reveal extensive intermolecular hydrogen bonding but lack π-π stacking interactions.

Abstract
β-Substituted ferrocenyl porphyrins were designed and synthesized by the Pd-catalyzed Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction. The UV-vis absorption, emission, and cyclic voltammetric results indicate strong electronic communication between ferrocene and porphyrin. The porphyrin 4a is non-emissive in nature, while 4b and 4c show reduced fluorescence quantum yield. The single crystal X-ray structure of 4b is reported, which shows extensive C-H-π interactions.
