catena-Poly[[di-aqua-bis-(1,3-di-hydro-3-oxo-isobenzo-furan-1-acetato)-copper(II)]-μ-N,N'-(ethane-1,2-di-yl)dinicotinamide]

The title compound, {[Cu(C10H7O4)2(C14H14N4O2)(H2O)2]n, contains octa-hed-rally coordinated CuII ions ligated by two bis-(1,3-di-hydro-3-oxo-1-isobenzo-furan-acetate (dibf) ligands and two trans water mol-ecules, linked by N,N'-(ethane-1,2-di-yl)dinicotinamide (edn) ligands into mono-periodic coordination polymer chains. The dibf ligands exhibit a pseudo-mirror positional disorder over two positions in a 89.2 (3)/10.8 (3) ratio; the central amide groups of the edn ligands are disordered pseudo-rotationally in the same ratio. These mono-periodic chain motifs are held into supra-molecular di-periodic supra-molecular layers by means of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding between edn amide groups and unligated dibf carboxyl-ate O atoms. In turn, the supra-molecular layers are held by crystal packing forces into the full crystal structure of the title compound.

From coordination polymer to carbon nanotube: Preparation, characterization and rapid adsorption capacity toward organic pollutants

A CuI coordination polymer based on the N,N’-bis(3-pyridinecarboxamide)-1,4-butane (3-dpyb) ligand, namely [Cu(3-dpyb)0.5Cl], is hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized, and is used as a catalyst precursor to synthesize multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Interestingly, the as-grown multi-walled carbon nanotubes exhibit high performance in removing dyes from solution and can serve as a low-cost and fast adsorbent. In addition, the adsorption behavior of this new adsorbent fits well with the Freundlich isotherm and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.

Luminescence, electrochemical and photocatalytic properties of sub-micron nickel(II) and cobalt(II) coordination polymers synthesized by sonochemical process

Submicron structures of Ni^II/Co^II-based coordination polymers (CPs) [Ni(L1)(mip)·H₂O]_n (1) and {[Co(L2)(mip)]·0·.5H₂O}_n(2) (L1=1,6-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole)hexane, L2=1,6-bis(benzimidazole)hexane, H₂mip=5-methylisophthalic acid) were obtained by ultrasonic irradiation and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Structural analysis show that two CPs feature uninodal 3-connected 2D hcb layer, whilst CP 2 is further extended into a 3D complicated supramolecular network by C14-H14⋯O2 hydrogen bonds. Ultrasonic time and power influencing morphology of sub-micron sized CPs, were also discussed. Besides that, thermal stability, luminescence, electrochemical properties and photocatalytic activity of sub-micron sized 1 and 2 were presented in detail. Moreover, sub-micron sized 1 manifests the higher photocatalytic activity than sub-micron sized 2 for decomposition of methylene blue (MB) under UV irradiation.

A new copper(II) supramolecular coordination polymer and a dinuclear compound with multifunctional 2-amino-5-sulfobenzoic acid and flexible N-donor ligands: synthesis, structure and characterization

Multifunctional 2-amino-5-sulfobenzoic acid (H2afsb) can exhibit a variety of roles during the construction of supramolecular coordination polymers. The pendant carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid and amino groups could not only play a role in directing bonding but could also have the potential to act as hydrogen-bond donors and acceptors, resulting in extended high-dimensional supramolecular networks. Two new CuIIcoordination compounds, namelycatena-poly[[[diaquacopper(II)]-μ-1,6-bis(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)hexane-κ2N4:N4′] bis(3-amino-4-carboxybenzenesulfonate) dihydrate], {[Cu(C10H16N6)2(H2O)2](C7H6NO5S)2·2H2O}nor {[Cu(bth)2(H2O)2](Hafsb)2·2H2O}n, (1), and bis(μ-2-amino-5-sulfonatobenzoato-κ2O1:O1′)bis{μ-1,2-bis[(1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl]benzene-κ2N3:N3′}bis[aquacopper(II)] trihydrate, [Cu2(C7H5NO5S)2(C14H14N4)2(H2O)2]·3H2O or [Cu2(afsb)2(obix)2(H2O)2]·3H2O, (2), have been obtained through the assembly between H2afsb and the CuIIion in the presence of the flexible N-donor ligands 1,6-bis(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)hexane (bth) and 1,2-bis[(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methyl]benzene (obix), respectively. Compound (1) consists of a cationic coordination polymeric chain and 3-amino-4-carboxybenzenesulfonate (Hafsb−) anions. Compound (2) exhibits an asymmetric dinuclear structure. There are hydrogen-bonded networks within the lattices of (1) and (2). Interestingly, both (1) and (2) exhibit reversible dehydration–rehydration behaviour.

A new three-dimensional bis(benzimidazole)-based cadmium(II) coordination polymer

A new coordination polymer (CP), formulated as [Cd(L)(DCTP)]_n (1) (L=1,1'-(1,4-butanediyl)bis(2-methylbenzimidazole), H₂DCTP=2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid), was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and the performance as luminescent probe was also investigated. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals CP 1 is a 3D 3-fold interpenetrated dia network with large well-defined pores. It is found that CP 1 revealed highly sensitive luminescence sensing for Fe³⁺ ions in acetonitrile solution with a high quenching efficiency of K_SV=2541.238L·mol^-1 and a low detection limit of 3.2μM (S/N=3). Moreover, the photocatalytic efficiency of 1 for degradation of methylene blue could reach 82.8% after 135min. Therefore, this coordination polymer could be viewed as multifunctional material for selectively sensing Fe³⁺ ions and effectively degrading dyes.

A metal–organic framework based multifunctional catalytic platform for organic transformation and environmental remediation

Given the need for an efficient reaction platform, a multifunctional material has been developed through the integration of iodine into a Cd²⁺ based MOF as a new catalytic system for organic transformation.

Control of chirality and catenation in cobalt and cadmium camphorate coordination complexes

Five cobalt or cadmium camphorate coordination polymers with various flexible-tether dipyridylamide ligands were structurally characterized. {[Co₂(d-cam)₂(pdn)]·2H₂O}_n (3, pdn = N,N′-(propane-1,3-diyl)dinicotinamide) has a self-penetrated 4⁴6⁸10 mab network. {[Cd₂(d-cam)₂(pdn)]·H₂O}_n (4) shows a new 3,7-connected 3D network. The cadmium complexes were assayed for luminescent and nitrobenzene detection properties.

Sonochemical synthesis of two nanostructured silver(I) coordination polymers based on semi-rigid bis(benzimidazole) ligands

Nanoparticles of two silver(I) coordination polymers (CPs), [Ag₂(L1)₂(DCTP)]_n (1) and [Ag₂(L2)(DCTP)]_n (2) (L1=1,3-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, L2=1,4-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)-2-butene, H₂DCTP=2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid), were synthesized by the sonochemical approach and hydrothermal method. Both CPs were characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). CP 1 exhibits a 2D 4-connected sql net with the point symbol {4⁴.6²}. While CP 2 displays a 2D 3,4-connected 3,4L13 net with the point symbol {4.6²}₂{4².6².8²}. The structural diversity indicates that semi-rigid bis(benzimidazole) co-ligands play important roles in tuning the structures of the mixed Ag(I) CPs. The ultrasound irradiation time, temperature, and power showed significant effects on the morphology and growth process of the nanoparticles of two silver(I) CPs. The luminescence and photocatalytic properties of the nanoparticles of CPs 1-2 on the degradation of methyl blue (MB) were also investigated in detail.

Rigid versus semi-rigid bis(imidazole) ligands in the assembly of two Co(ii) coordination polymers: structural variability, electrochemical properties and photocatalytic behavior

Two Co(ii) complexes with 1,2,4,5-cyclohexanetetracarboxylate, rigid or semi-rigid bis(imidazole) ligands were hydrothermally synthesized. Both compounds showed high photocatalytic activity for MB degradation.

Two 3D ZnII Metal–Organic Frameworks with 3- and 8-Fold Interpenetration: Syntheses, Structures, Photodegradation, and Photoluminescent Properties

Two novel coordination polymers, namely {[Zn(sbdc)(bmib)]·0.4H2O}n (1) and {[Zn(sbdc)(bibd)]·DMF}n (2) (H2sbdc = 4,4′-stilbenedicarboxylic, bmib = 1,4-bis(2-methylimidazol-1-yl)butane, bibd = 1,1′-(1,4-butanediyl)bis(imidazole), DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide), have been acquired under solvothermal conditions, and have been characterised by elemental analysis, infrared spectra, thermogravimetric analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD). Single-crystal XRD analysis reveals that 1 shows eight-fold interpenetrating 3D frameworks with a four-connected (66) sqc6 topology and 2 displays four-connected three-fold interpenetrating 3D frameworks. The flexible N-donor ligands play an important role in the construction of the final topological structures for 1 and 2. Furthermore, 1 and 2 exhibit good photodegradation capability and photoluminescence properties.

Fluorescent recognition of Fe3+ and Fe3+-functionalized composite materials for enhancing photocatalytic activities of CoII complexes

Six new Co^II complexes (1–6) based on a bi-methylene-bridged bis-pyridyl-bis-amide have been synthesized. 5 and 6 exhibit photoluminescent sensing selectivity for Fe³⁺, and Fe³⁺-functionalized composites Fe³⁺@5 and Fe³⁺@6 show photocatalytic properties for the degradation of organic dyes.
