Abstract
The rapid development of nanomaterials has provided a good theoretical basis and technical support to solve the problems of food safety inspection. The combination of functionalized composite nanomaterials and well-known detection methods is gradually applied to detect hazardous substances, such as chemical residues and toxins, in agricultural food products. This review concentrates on the latest agro-food safety inspection techniques and methodologies constructed with the assistance of new hybrid micro/nanoentities, such as molecular imprinting polymers integrated with quantum dots (MIPs@QDs), molecular imprinting polymers integrated with upconversion luminescent nanoparticles (MIPs@UCNPs), upconversion luminescent nanoparticles combined with metal-organic frameworks (UCNPs@MOFs), magnetic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs@Fe3O4), magnetic covalent-organic frameworks (Fe3O4@COFs), covalent-organic frameworks doped with quantum dots (COFs@QDs), nanobody-involved immunoassay for fast inspection, etc. The presented summary and discussion favor a relevant outlook for further integrating various disciplines, like material science, nanotechnology, and analytical methodology, for addressing new challenges that emerge in agro-food research fields.

Abstract
The design and synthesis of an efficient adsorbent for antibiotics-based pollutants is challenging due to the unique physicochemical properties of antibiotics. The development of a mesoporous SiO2–ZnO composite is a novel way to achieve excellent adsorption efficiency for doxycycline hydrochloride (DOX) in aqueous solutions due to the engineered highly open mesoporous structure and the ZnO-modified framework. Unlike the traditional method of obtaining mesoporous composites by post-synthesis techniques, the novel one-step method developed in this study is both effective and environment-friendly. The adsorption mechanism based on the novel synergetic effect between SiO2 and ZnO was demonstrated through several experiments. SiO2 led to the creation of a 3D open framework structure that provides sufficient space and rapid transport channels for adsorption, ensuring rapid adsorption kinetics. A higher number of active sites and enhanced affinity of the contaminants are provided by ZnO, ensuring high adsorption capacity. The mesoporous SiO2–ZnO could be easily regenerated without a significant decrease in its adsorption efficiency. These results indicate that the developed strategy afforded a simple approach for synthesizing the novel mesoporous composites, and that mesoporous SiO2–ZnO is a possible alternative adsorbent for the removal of DOX from wastewater. The design and synthesis of an efficient adsorbent for antibiotics-based pollutants is challenging due to the unique physicochemical properties of antibiotics.![]()

Abstract
Tetracycline is widely used as medicine for disease treatments and additives in animal feeding. Unfortunately, the abuse of tetracycline inevitably causes tetracycline residue in animal-origin foods. Though classical methods can detect tetracycline in high sensitivity and precision, they often rely on huge and expensive setups as well as complicated and time-consuming operations, limiting their applications in rapid and on-site detection. Here, we propose a handheld inkjet printing paper chip based smart tetracycline detector: tetracycline can be determined by inkjet printing prepared paper chip based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with the advantages of high sensitivity, excellent specificity and low cost; moreover, a smartphone based paper chip reader and application is designed for automatically determining tetracycline with simple operations, high precision and fast speed. The smart tetracycline detector with a compact size of 154 mm × 80 mm × 50 mm and self-supplied internal power can reach a rather low detection limit of ~0.05 ng/mL, as proved by practical measurements. It is believed the proposed handheld inkjet printing paper chip based smart tetracycline detector is a potential tool in antibiotic sensing for routine uses at home and on-site detection in the field.

Abstract
Milk-producing animals are typically kept stationary in overcrowded large-scale farms and in most cases under unsanitary conditions, which promotes the development of infections. In order to maintain sufficient health status among the herd or promote growth and increase production, farmers administer preventative antibiotic doses to the animals through their feed. However, many antibiotics used in cattle farms are intended for the treatment of bacterial infections in humans. This results in the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria which pose a great risk for public health. Additionally, antibiotic residues are found in milk and dairy products, with potential toxic effects for the consumers. Hence the need of antibiotic residues monitoring in milk arises. Analytical methods were developed for the determination of antibiotics in milk, with key priority given to the analyte extraction and preconcentration step. Extraction can benefit from the production of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) that can be applied as sorbents for the extraction of specific antibiotics. This review focuses on the principals of molecular imprinting technology and synthesis methods of MIPs, as well as the application of MIPs and MIPs composites for the chromatographic determination of various antibiotic categories in milk found in the recent literature.

Abstract
Abstract
Two types of composite imprinted membranes, i.e., composite membrane comprised of D-Phe imprinted beads and D-Phe imprinted membrane or DCM and composite membrane comprised of L-Phe imprinted beads and L-Phe imprinted membranes or LCM, were synthesized by phase inversion technique after a uniform dispersion of beads within the polymeric solutions using simple physico-mechanical process. The assemblies of the prepared DCM, LCM and control membranes were employed in ultrafiltration for chiral separation of D, L-Phenylalanine racemate solution. DCM and LCM showed an improved adsorption capacity (0.334 mg g-1 and 0.365 mg g-1 respectively), and adsorption selectivity (2.72 and 2.98 respectively). However, the percent rejection of the template and counter enantiomer were lower than that of control membranes. Compared to control membrane, the DCM and LCM showed inverse permselectivity. These composite membranes having better adsorption and separation ability for Phenylalanine racemate solution will be suitable in the future for various other applications.

Abstract
Tetracycline (TC) is a common antibacterial agent used for prevention and control of animal diseases. The increasing concern about TC residue in food demands high-performing analytical techniques for food quality assessment. Biosensors represent a promising tool for food safety analysis as they can fulfill some demand that the conventional methods do not attain. In this study, a novel colorimetric aptasensor was developed for sensitive detection of TC in honey. The aptasensor was based on a modified direct competitive enzyme-linked aptamer assay (dc-ELAA) scheme utilizing a 76 mer single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) aptamer selected by Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment (SELEX). The optimized aptasensor showed a good limit of detection (LOD of 0.0978 ng/mL), a wide linear range (0.1-1000 ng/mL) toward TC in honey, with good recoveries (92.09-109.7%) in TC-spiked honey, and was compared with an indirect competitive assay-based aptasensor and validated with a standard ELISA. The biosensor based on dc-ELAA with good limit of detection and simplicity can be applied for high-throughput detection of TC in food.
