Abstract
A novel, simple and metal-free tandem approach for synthesizing α-substituted (E)-α,β-unsaturated aldehyde derivatives through acid-catalyzed epoxide rearrangement and organocatalyzed aldol condensation processes has been described. This transformation has a broad substrate scope under mild conditions, including epoxides and aldehydes containing diverse functional groups, resulting in moderate to high yields of the desired products. Eventually, large-scale reactions and the synthesis of some bioactive molecules are used to demonstrate the potential applicability of the developed method.

Abstract
The development of greener and more sustainable methods, as well as the adaptation of already existing protocols to more environmentally friendly procedures, has become crucial for organic synthesis. The introduction and utilization of greener solvents is a very promising alternative, especially when they can replace toxic organic solvents in the known and widely used organic reactions. Cyrene has appeared to be an excellent alternative solvent for a number of organic reactions. In this work, the development of a new, greener and more economical protocol for the Mizoroki-Heck reaction is described, using Cyrene as the green solvent and Pd/C as the palladium catalyst source. A wide substrate scope for the coupling of aryl iodides with acrylamides, acrylates, acrylic acid, acrylonitrile and styrene was demonstrated. The recyclability of Cyrene and the leaching of palladium in the final product were examined in order to enhance the industrial applicability of this protocol. Furthermore, the synthesis of the natural product piperlotine A is reported.

Abstract
Resin-immobilized catalysts were prepared through chirality-driven self-assembly. The method allows the resin-immobilized catalyst to be regenerated under mild conditions and in situ catalyst exchange to be carried out quantitatively. The uniqueness of the methodology was demonstrated by the preparation of a catalyst for TEMPO oxidation as well as a two-step sequential TEMPO oxidation/aldol condensation sequence enabled by facile catalyst exchange.

Abstract
The aldol condensation of benzaldehyde and heptanal is taken as an example of reversible liquid phase organic reactions to show that inclusion of activity coefficients reveal distinct differences in conversion and product distribution when different solvents methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, or n-butanol are used. The purpose of this work is to show a pronounced solvent effect for a given set of identical kinetic parameters, i.e., the same liquid phase kinetics can result in different conversion and yield values, depending on the choice of solvent. It was shown that subsequent parameter estimation without inclusion of the activity coefficients resulted in a pronounced deviation from the 'true' kinetics, up to a factor of 30. It is proposed that the usage of average activity coefficients gives already a significant improvement, resulting in acceptable parameter estimates.

Abstract
The quest for sustainable processes is becoming more and more important, with catalysis playing a major role in improving atom economy and reducing waste. Organic syntheses with less need of protecting/de-protecting steps are highly desirable. The combination of microwave irradiation, as energy source, with ionic liquids, as both solvents and catalysts, offered interesting solutions in recent years. The literature data of the last 15 years concerning selected reactions are presented, highlighting the importance of microwave (MW) technology coupled with ionic liquids.

Abstract
An efficient one-pot ruthenium-catalyzed hydrogen-transfer strategy for a direct access to α,β-unsaturated aldehydes has been developed. The employment of enolates prepared in situ from alcohols avoided handling unstable aldehydes and provided a very appealing route to different cinnamaldehydes substituted in position 2. A silica-grafted amine was used as phase-switch tag leading to a selective one-pot process in favor of cross-dehydrogenative coupling products.

Abstract
Five quaternary ammonium ionic liquid (IL) and two tetrabutylphosphonium ILs were prepared and characterized. An environmentally benign and convenient functionalized ionic liquid catalytic system was thus explored in the aldol condensation reactions of aromatic aldehydes with acetone. The aldol reactions proceeded more efficiently through microwave-assisted heating than through conventional thermal heating. The yield of products obtained under microwave heating for 30 min was approximately 90%, and the ILs can be recovered and reused at least five times without apparent loss of activity. In addition, this catalytic system can be successfully extended to the Henry reactions.
