Abstract
An efficient and operationally simple photochemical method has been demonstrated under transition metal-free, photocatalyst-free, and oxidant-free conditions. In recent times, diaryliodonium salts have become one of the most popular arylating sources under photoinduced conditions. Herein, we developed a visible light induced arylation of heterocycles using an EDA complex that is formed in situ from 2,6-lutidine and diaryliodonium triflate. Under light irradiation, the EDA complex generates the aryl radical that undergoes addition with 2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carbonitriles via an SET process. This method serves as an effective tool to access biologically active and pharmaceutically relevant coumarin scaffolds.

Abstract
A convenient and new synthetic approach has been developed for the oxidative cross-coupling of the C-N bond through the reaction between arylglyoxylic acids and tetraalkylthiuram disulfides. The reaction proceeds under ambient air at room temperature in the presence of visible light. This reaction offers a metal-, base-, photocatalyst-, and solvent-free synthesis of various α-ketoamides with moderate to excellent yields via the radical pathway. In addition, this protocol demonstrates the potential application of a gram-scale synthesis.

Abstract
The term "C-H functionalisation" incorporates C-H activation followed by its transformation. In a single line, this can be defined as the conversion of carbon-hydrogen bonds into carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom bonds. The catalytic functionalisation of C-H bonds using transition metals has emerged as an atom-economical technique to engender new bonds without activated precursors which can be considered as a major drawback while attempting large-scale synthesis. Replacing the transition-metal-catalysed approach with a metal-free strategy significantly offers an alternative route that is not only inexpensive but also environmentally benign to functionalize C-H bonds. Recently metal free synthetic approaches have been flourishing to functionalize C-H bonds, motivated by the search for greener, cost-effective, and non-toxic catalysts. In this review, we will highlight the comprehensive and up-to-date discussion on recent examples of ground-breaking research on green and sustainable metal-free C-H bond functionalisation.

Abstract
We herein describe a highly diastereoselective rhodium(I)-catalyzed C-F bond functionalization of gem-difluoroalkenes with arylboronic acids. In contrast to previously developed Pd(II)- and Pd(0)-catalyzed methods, the Rh(I)/BINAP catalytic system enabled the C-F bond arylation of both trisubstituted β,β-difluorostyrenes and tetrasubstituted β,β-difluoroacrylates in >99:1 dr toward the synthesis of valuable monofluoroalkenes. Experimental and computational studies suggested a plausible migratory insertion/β-F elimination mechanism with the [Rh(I)-Ar] species.

Abstract
Highly substituted coumarins, privileged and versatile scaffolds for bioactive natural products and fluorescence imaging, are obtained via a Pd(II)-catalyzed direct C-H alkenylation reaction (Fujiwara-Moritani reaction), which has emerged as a powerful tool for the construction and functionalization of heterocyclic compounds because of its chemical versatility and its environmental advantages. Thus, a selective 6-endo cyclization led to 4-substituted coumarins in moderate yields. Selected examples have been further functionalized in C3 through a second intermolecular C-H alkenylation reaction to give coumarin-acrylate hybrids, whose fluorescence spectra have been measured.

Abstract
A series of dihydroartemisinin-cinnamic acid hybrids were designed, synthesized and evaluated. Most of the tested compounds showed enhanced anti-proliferative activities than artemisinin and dihydroartemisinin, among which 16 g had the superior potency with IC50 values ranging from 5.07 μM to 7.88 μM against four tested cancer cell lines. The cell cycle arrest revealed that 16 g induced A549 cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase via regulation of G1-related protein expression (Cdk4). Further mechanism studies reveal that 16 g induced A549 cells apoptosis via inhibiting Akt/Bad pathway. Moreover, 16 g depolarized the mitochondria membrane potentials and induced ROS generation in A549. Additionally, 16 g blocked migration of A549 cells in a concentration-dependent manner. What's more, 16 g is barely nontoxic to zebrafish embryos. Overall, the cell cycle arrest, inhibition of Akt/Bad signal pathway, ROS generation and migration blocked might explain the potent anti-proliferative activities of these compounds.

Abstract
The study of coumarin dates back to 1820 when coumarin was first extracted from tonka bean by Vogel. Compounds containing coumarin backbone are a very important group of compounds due to their usage in pharmacy and medicine. Properties and biological activities of coumarin derivatives have a significant role in the development of new drugs. Therefore, many different methods and techniques are developed in order to synthesize coumarin derivatives. Coumarin derivatives could be obtained from different starting materials with various methods but with big differences in yield. This review summarized various methods, techniques and reaction conditions for synthesis of coumarins from different compounds such as aldehydes, phenols, ketones and carboxylic acids.

Abstract
An efficient domino transformation using a phenyliodine(III) diacetate (PIDA)/I2 combination towards Morin 1,4-thiazine compounds has been developed starting from N,S-acetals. The latter leads to "one-step" regioselective methylene insertion without the need for traditional sulfoxide intermediates in good yields. The reaction involves easily accessible N,S-acetals obtained from cost-effective basic ketones and cysteamine as starting materials. This process ultimately leads to 1,4-thiazines related to natural product and fused derivatives necessary for further QSAR study.

Abstract
4-Arylcoumarins (4-aryl-2H-1-benzopyran-2-one), also known as neoflavones, comprise a minor subclass of naturally occurring flavonoids. Because of their broad-spectrum biological activities, arylcoumarins have been attracting the attention of the organic and medicinal chemistry communities, and are considered as an important privileged scaffold. Since the development of Pechmann condensation, a classical acid-catalyzed condensation between phenol and β-keto-carboxylic acid, several versatile and efficient synthetic approaches for 4-arylcoumarins have been reported. This review summarizes recent advances in the synthesis of the 4-arylcoumarin scaffold by classifying them based on the final bond-formation type. In particular, synthetic methods executed under mild and highly efficient conditions, such as solvent-free reactions and transition metal catalysis, are highlighted.

Abstract
Herein, Nature's flavin-mediated activation of complex (poly)enes has been translated to a small molecule paradigm culminating in a highly (Z)-selective, catalytic isomerization of activated olefins using (-)-riboflavin (up to 99:1 Z/E). In contrast to the prominent Z → E isomerization of the natural system, it was possible to invert the directionality of the isomerization (E → Z) by simultaneously truncating the retinal scaffold, and introducing a third olefin substituent to augment A1,3-strain upon isomerization. Consequently, conjugation is reduced in the product chromophore leading to a substrate/product combination with discrete photophysical signatures. The operationally simple isomerization protocol has been applied to a variety of enone-derived substrates and showcased in the preparation of the medically relevant 4-substituted coumarin scaffold. A correlation of sensitizer triplet energy (ET) and reaction efficiency, together with the study of additive effects and mechanistic probes, is consistent with a triplet energy transfer mechanism.
