Copper(I)-Catalyzed Alkyne-Azide Cycloaddition (CuAAC) "Click" Reaction: A Powerful Tool for Functionalizing Polyhydroxylated Platforms

Click chemistry is currently one of the most used tools for the generation of complex organic molecules. The advantages of using click chemistry in organic synthesis are remarkable; in many cases, the reactions occur under mild conditions and are free of solvents, with high yields and short reaction times. This makes it an extraordinarily effective and viable alternative for obtaining complex/conjugated molecules. In this review, the use of click chemistry CuAAC is especially emphasized for polyhydroxylated platforms such as resorcinarenes or calixarenes, focusing mainly on aspects of synthesis, specifically conditions, reagents, and methodologies.

This work investigated the binding interactions between decamethylcucurbit[5]uril (Me₁₀Q[5]) and phenylenediamine isomers, and developed a strategy to isolate phenylenediamine isomers.

Recent progress to construct calixarene-based polymers using covalent bonds: synthesis and applications

The combination of supramolecular chemistry and polymer sciences creates a great possibility to afford calixarene-based polymers offering unique features and applications. The enhancement of calixarene's versatility in this manner has made chemists better able to achieve different objectives in host-guest chemistry. The calixarene-based polymers can be divided into covalent polymers and supramolecular polymers regarding the interactions. Although there are several studies available on the calixarene-based supramolecular polymers, there is a paucity of studies on the calixarene-based covalent polymers. In this paper, the most recent developments and applications of the calixarene-based covalent polymers in the last two decades have been reviewed. We have particularly focused on the polymers, including those where the calixarene molecules have been used as macromonomers and polymerize through covalent bonds. Moreover, covalent polymers or solid supports functionalized with calixarenes are highlighted as well.

In this feature article, we discuss recent developments in macroscopic contact angle switches formed by different macrocyclic hosts and highlight the properties of these new functional surfaces and their potential applications.

Calixarene-based chemosensors by means of click chemistry

Click chemistry, a new strategy for organic chemistry, has been widely used in the chemical modification of calixarenes because of its reliability, specificity, biocompatibility, and efficiency. Click-derived triazoles also play a critical role in sensing ions and molecules. This in-depth review provides an overview of calixarene-based chemosensors that incorporate click-derived triazoles, and their three characteristics (chromogenic, fluorescence, and wettability) are reviewed.

Design and fabrication of a biomimetic nanochannel for highly sensitive arginine response in serum samples

Inspired from their biological counterparts, chemical modification of the interior surface of nanochannels with functional molecules may provide a highly efficient means to control ionic or molecular transport through nanochannels. Herein, we have designed and prepared a aldehyde calix[4]arene (C4AH), which was attached to the interior surface of a single nanochannel by using a click reaction, and that showed a high response for arginine (Arg). Furthermore, the nanofluidic sensing system has been challenged with complex matrices containing a high concentration of interfering sequences and serum. Based on this finding, we believe that the artificial nanochannel can be used for practical Arg-sensing devices, and be applied in a biological environment.
