Abstract
The C-C bond formation reactions are important in organic synthesis. Heck reaction is known to arylate the terminal carbon of olefins; however, direct alkylation of the terminal carbon of olefin is limited. Herein, we report a novel ruthenium-catalyzed selective cross-coupling reaction of styrene and α-diazoesters to form a new C-C bond over cyclopropanation via the C-H insertion process for the first time. Using this novel methodology, a wide variety of substrates have been utilized and a variety of α-vinylated benzylic esters and densely functionalized olefins have been synthesized with good stereoselectivity under mild reaction conditions. The overall reaction process proceeds through the carbene insertion into styrene to form the desired products in good to excellent yields with proper stereoselectivity. The selective C-H inserted product, wide substrate scope, and excellent functional group tolerance are the best features of this work.

Abstract
A silver-mediated homocoupling of N-triftosylhydrazones for the construction of trans-stilbenes has been presented. This protocol is characterized by its suitability for both inter- and intramolecular reactions, operational simplicity, high efficiency with excellent stereoselectivity, broad substrate scope, and good functional group tolerance. A plausible mechanism involving nucleophilic attack of in situ generated sulfonium ylides on silver carbene was proposed on the basis of experimental results and DFT calculations, which further indicates that π-π stacking interactions play a dominant role in stereoselectivity control.

Abstract
An efficient protocol for the synthesis of furans through Rh(III)-catalyzed vinyl C-H activation from acrylic acids and α-diazocarbonyl compounds has been developed. The reaction features broad functional group tolerance and affords a series of furans in moderate to good yields. Moreover, no additives such as copper or silver salts are required. Some control experiments are performed to give insight into the mechanism of this cascade transformation and the decarbonylation process is involved in the formation of the furan product.

Abstract
6π electrocyclization has attracted interest in organic synthesis because of its high stereospecificity and atom economy in the construction of versatile 5-7-membered cycles. However, examples of asymmetric 6π electrocyclization are quite scarce, and have to rely on the use of chiral organocatalysts, and been limited to pentadienyl-anion- and triene-type 6π electrocyclizations. Described herein is a zinc-catalyzed formal [4+3] annulation of isoxazoles with 3-en-1-ynol ethers via 6π electrocyclization, leading to the site-selective synthesis of functionalized 2H-azepines and 4H-azepines in good to excellent yields with broad substrate scope. Moreover, this strategy has also been used to produce chiral 2H-azepines with high enantioselectivities (up to 97:3 e.r.). This protocol not only is the first asymmetric heptatrienyl-cation-type 6π electrocyclization, but also is the first asymmetric reaction of isoxazoles with alkynes and the first asymmetric catalysis based on ynol ethers.

Abstract
Furans are five-membered aromatic heterocycles containing one oxygen atom that are important
building blocks in organic chemistry, but also as natural products found in various natural
sources, mostly in plants, algae and microorganisms. In this review, we discussed recent advances in the
synthesis of furan compounds. Some classical methods have been modified and improved, while other
new methods have been developed. A vast variety of catalysts was used for these transformations. In
many studies, furan synthesis reaction mechanisms were also investigated and proposed.

Abstract
Gold-catalyzed intermolecular alkyne oxidation has attracted much synthetic attention, but mostly suffering undesired over-oxidation. Recent experiments demonstrated that over-oxidation could be dramatically suppressed in zinc(II)-catalyzed intermolecular alkyne oxidation/CH functionalization. By means of first-principle density functional theory calculations, we explored the mechanism of the M-catalyzed intermolecular alkyne oxidations (M = Zn(OTf)2 and Au+ PR3 ) as well as the effects of oxidants, temperature, and metal catalysts on chemoselectivity, in an effort to disclose the origin of the extraordinary chemoselectivity pertaining to zinc catalysis. Our calculations indicate that the Zn-catalyzed intermolecular alkyne oxidation/CH functionalization proceeds by a Friedel-Crafts alkylation mechanism rather than metal carbene insertion mechanism. The chemoselectivity of CH functionalization against over-oxidation in Zn catalysis, in comparison with gold catalysis, can be jointly controlled by four factors: (1) the use of less nucleophilic N-oxide, (2) the enhanced electrophilicity and carbocationic nature of the carbenic site in the α-oxo metal carbenoid intermediate, (3) enhanced steric repulsion to incoming oxidant exerted by bulky ancillary ligand in the close nearby of the carbenic site to disfavor intermolecular over-oxidation and (4) the large negative value of activation entropy in the intermolecular over-oxidation pathway, that jointly give rise to lower activation free energy for the intramolecular cyclization/CH functionalization pathway than for the intermolecular over-oxidation pathway. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract
Zinc-catalyzed selective cross-coupling of two carbene sources, such as vinyl diazo compounds and enynones, enabled the synthesis of conjugated dienoate derivatives. This reaction involved the unprecedented coupling of a zinc furyl carbene with vinyl diazo compounds through the γ-carbon. Alternatively, dienoates were also prepared by a commutative cross-coupling of zinc vinyl carbenes generated from cyclopropenes and simple diazo compounds.

Abstract
An efficient zinc(II)-catalyzed alkyne oxidation/C-H functionalization sequence was developed, thus leading to highly site-selective synthesis of a variety of isoquinolones and β-carbolines. Importantly, in contrast to the well-established gold-catalyzed intermolecular alkyne oxidation, over-oxidation can be completely suppressed in this system and the reaction most likely proceeds by a Friedel-Crafts-type pathway. Mechanistic studies and theoretical calculations are described.
