Triazole-linked amidopyrene-tagged fluorometric probe for Au3+ ions and pH control aggregation-induced emission

In this paper, an amidopyrene-tagged reversible fluorescence probe 1 has been constructed for the detection of Au(III) ions in H2O/CH3CN (4/1, v/v). It is used to identify the Au(III) ions over several metal ions with excellent sensitivity (LOD: 0.061 µM). The fluorescence quenching of 1 with Au(III) ions might be attributed to the reverse PET process. Probe 1 recognized Au(III) by forming tetravalent geometry with the amide -NH, triazole moiety, free water, and Cl- ion in 1:1 binding mode, which is evidenced by the DFT calculations, FT-IR spectroscopy, and HRMS value of the complex. The application utility of probe 1 was ascertained from the recovery of Au(III) ions from different sources of natural water samples. Interestingly, molecule 1 also showed aggregation-induced emission behavior at basic pH (>10) in H2O/CH3CN medium with high water content. The AIE might be attributed to the formation of self-associates of 1 upon the intermolecular H-bonding interactions between water and donor atom(s) of 1 or the increased polarity of the solvent medium.

Cu(I)-Catalyzed Click Chemistry in Glycoscience and Their Diverse Applications

Copper(I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between organic azides and terminal alkynes, commonly known as CuAAC or click chemistry, has been identified as one of the most successful, versatile, reliable, and modular strategies for the rapid and regioselective construction of 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles as diversely functionalized molecules. Carbohydrates, an integral part of living cells, have several fascinating features, including their structural diversity, biocompatibility, bioavailability, hydrophilicity, and superior ADME properties with minimal toxicity, which support increased demand to explore them as versatile scaffolds for easy access to diverse glycohybrids and well-defined glycoconjugates for complete chemical, biochemical, and pharmacological investigations. This review highlights the successful development of CuAAC or click chemistry in emerging areas of glycoscience, including the synthesis of triazole appended carbohydrate-containing molecular architectures (mainly glycohybrids, glycoconjugates, glycopolymers, glycopeptides, glycoproteins, glycolipids, glycoclusters, and glycodendrimers through regioselective triazole forming modular and bio-orthogonal coupling protocols). It discusses the widespread applications of these glycoproducts as enzyme inhibitors in drug discovery and development, sensing, gelation, chelation, glycosylation, and catalysis. This review also covers the impact of click chemistry and provides future perspectives on its role in various emerging disciplines of science and technology.

An Imidazole Thione-Modified Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane for Selective Detection and Adsorptive Recovery of Au(III) from Aqueous Solutions

Developing a material toward simultaneous detection and recovery of gold ions (Au(III)) is highly desirable for the economy and the environment. Herein, we report a highly efficient dual-function material for simultaneous Au(III) detection and recovery by simply introducing abundant imidazole thione and thioether groups in one system. This material, that is, an imidazole thione-modified polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS-2), was prepared by a mild reaction of an imidazolium-containing POSS and sulfur at ambient temperature. The POSS-2 suspension in water can rapidly and selectively detect Au(III) with a very low limit of detection of 1.2 ppb by fluorescence quenching or a visualized color change from white to dark orange. POSS-2 can also selectively and efficiently capture Au(III) with a maximum adsorption uptake of 1486.5 mg/g. The adsorption process well fits with the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir models. The intriguing dual-function performance is better than most of the previous Au(III) probes or adsorbents. The mechanism study reveals that the detection and adsorption behavior are mainly caused by the redox reaction and coordination between imidazole thione and thioether groups and Au(III). Furthermore, POSS-2 was successfully utilized to extract gold without interference from a discard CPU. These results indicate the potential application of the present dual-function material for Au(III) detection and recovery from aqueous solutions. More dual-functional materials could be designed and prepared by this simple strategy.

Copper(ii) and zinc(ii) complexes of mono- and bis-1,2,3-triazole-substituted heterocyclic ligands

Chelating 1,4-disubstituted mono- (8a-8d) and bis-1,2,3-triazole-based (9a-11a) ligands were prepared by regioselective copper(i)-catalysed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of terminal alkynes with aromatic azides, together with bioconjugate 13a synthesized by amide coupling of l-phenylalanine methyl ester to 11a. Cu(ii) and Zn(ii) complexes were prepared and single crystal structures were determined for complexes 8aCu, 8dCu, 9cCu and 10cCu, as well as the free ligands 10a and 10c. The in situ prepared Zn(ii) complexes were studied by NMR spectroscopy, while the stoichiometry of the Cu(ii) complexes in solution was determined by UV-Vis titrations and confirmed by the electronic structure DFT calculations at the (SMD)/M05-2X/6-31+G(d)/LanL2DZ+ECP level of theory.

Synthesis and Reactivity of Propargylamines in Organic Chemistry

Propargylamines are a versatile class of compounds which find broad application in many fields of chemistry. This review aims to describe the different strategies developed so far for the synthesis of propargylamines and their derivatives as well as to highlight their reactivity and use as building blocks in the synthesis of chemically relevant organic compounds. In the first part of the review, the different synthetic approaches to synthesize propargylamines, such as A³ couplings and C-H functionalization of alkynes, have been described and organized on the basis of the catalysts employed in the syntheses. Both racemic and enantioselective approaches have been reported. In the second part, an overview of the transformations of propargylamines into heterocyclic compounds such as pyrroles, pyridines, thiazoles, and oxazoles, as well as other relevant organic derivatives, is presented.
