Abstract
Synthesis of highly functionalized spiro[4.4]nonane and spiro[4.5]decane motifs by the reaction of dimethylacetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD) with 2-(2'-ketoalkyl)-1,3-indandiones and 2-(3'-ketoalkyl)-1,3-indandiones, respectively, has been developed by utilizing a catalytic amount of DABCO. The tertiary hydroxy-containing spiro[4.4]nonane products were converted into fully conjugated pentafulvene π-systems in an acidic medium through dehydration and unprecedented C-C bond rearrangement.

Abstract
The heterogeneous gold(I)-catalyzed stereoselective thioallylation of electron-deficient alkynes with allyl sulfides has been achieved by using an MCM-41-immobilized sterically demanding NHC-gold(I) complex [MCM-41-IPrAuNTf2] as the catalyst under mild conditions, delivering a wide variety of stereodefined tri- and tetrasubstituted functionalized vinyl sulfides in good to excellent yields. The new heterogeneous MCM-41-IPrAuNTf2 catalyst exhibits an activity comparable to a homogeneous IPrAuNTf2 complex and can be recovered via a simple filtration process and reused for at least seven consecutive cycles without any apparent loss of its catalytic activity and selectivity.

RSC Adv 2021; 11:18870-18880. Abstract
We designed and synthesized unsubstituted 4,4′-bibenzo[c]thiophene 4,4′-BBT and its silyl-substituted derivatives 1,1′-Si-4,4′-BBT and 1,1′,3,3′-Si-4,4′-BBT with one or two tert-butyldimethylsilyl groups on each thiophene ring, as new π-building blocks in emitters, photosensitizers and semiconductors for organic optoelectronic devices. The characterization of 4,4′-BBT, 1,1′-Si-4,4′-BBT and 1,1′,3,3′-Si-4,4′-BBT was successfully determined by FTIR, 1H and 13C NMR measurements, high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) analysis, photoabsorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry (CV) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Moreover, a single-crystal X-ray structural analysis was successfully made for 1,1′-Si-4,4′-BBT and 1,1′,3,3′-Si-4,4′-BBT. The photoabsorption and fluorescence maxima (λabsmax and λflmax) of the three 4,4′-bibenzo[c]thiophene derivatives in toluene exhibit bathochromic shifts in the order of 4,4′-BBT (359 nm and 410 nm) < 1,1′-Si-4,4′-BBT (366 nm and 420 nm) < 1,1′,3,3′-Si-4,4′-BBT (371 nm and 451 nm). The HOMO and LUMO energy levels rise in the order of 4,4′-BBT (−5.55 eV and −2.39 eV) < 1,1′-Si-4,4′-BBT (−5.45 eV and −2.34 eV) < 1,1′,3,3′-Si-4,4′-BBT (−5.34 eV and −2.30 eV), but the rise of the HOMO energy level is larger than that of the LUMO energy level, resulting in the bathochromic shift of the photoabsorption band from 4,4′-BBT to 1,1′,3,3′-Si-4,4′-BBT. The fluorescence quantum yields (Φfl) of 4,4′-BBT, 1,1′-Si-4,4′-BBT and 1,1′,3,3′-Si-4,4′-BBT in toluene are 0.41, 0.41 and 0.36, respectively. It is worth mentioning that in the solid state 1,1′-Si-4,4′-BBT and 1,1′,3,3′-Si-4,4′-BBT show relatively high Φfl-solid values of 0.22 and 0.25, respectively, whereas 4,4′-BBT exhibits poor solid-state fluorescence properties (Φfl-solid < 0.02). This work provides an efficient synthetic method for the 4,4′-bibenzo[c]thiophene derivatives and their photophysical properties in the solution and solid state, electrochemical properties and X-ray crystal structures. 4,4′-Bibenzo[c]thiophene 4,4′-BBT and its silyl-substituted derivatives 1,1′-Si-4,4′-BBT and 1,1′,3,3′-Si-4,4′-BBT have been designed and developed as new π-building blocks.![]()

Abstract
Strigolactones (SLs) are a family of terpenoid allelochemicals that were recognized as plant hormones only a decade ago. They influence a myriad of both above- and below-ground developmental processes, and are an important survival strategy for plants in nutrient-deprived soils. A rapidly emerging approach to gain knowledge on hormone signaling is the use of traceable analogs. A unique class of labeled SL analogs was constructed, in which the original tricyclic lactone moiety of natural SLs is replaced by a fluorescent cyanoisoindole ring system. Biological evaluation as parasitic seed germination stimulant and hypocotyl elongation repressor proved the potency of the cyanoisoindole strigolactone analogs (CISAs) to be comparable to the commonly accepted standard GR24. Additionally, via a SMXL6 protein degradation assay, we provided molecular evidence that the compounds elicit SL-like responses through the natural signaling cascade. All CISAs were shown to exhibit fluorescent properties, and the high quantum yield and Stokes shift of the pyrroloindole derivative CISA-7 also enabled in vivo visualization in plants. In contrast to the previously reported fluorescent analogs, CISA-7 displays a large similarity in shape and structure with natural SLs, which renders the analog a promising tracer to investigate the spatiotemporal distribution of SLs in plants and fungi.

Abstract
Pyrazoles are important heterocyclic compounds with a broad range of biological activities. A new procedure toward tri- or tetrasubstituted pyrazoles has been developed, via a one-pot gold catalyzed synthesis from hydrazines with alkynyl aldehydes or ketones. The reaction proceeds through consecutive hydrazone formation, 5-endo-dig cyclization and an aza-Claisen rearrangement resulting in the desired polysubstitued pyrazoles.
