Manganese Fluorene Phosphonates: Formation of Isolated Chains

9,9-dimethylfluorenyl-2-phosphonic acid 1 was reacted with manganese nitrate tetrahydrate to produce under hydrothermal conditions the crystalline manganese phosphonate Mn(H2O)2[O2(OH)PC15H13]2·2H2O which crystallize in the P21/c space group. This compound is a rare example of Mn-phosphonate material featuring isolated chains. The interactions between these chains containing the 9,9-dimethylfluorenyl moieties, result from Van der Waals interactions involving the fluorene ligands and C···H–C hydrogen bonds as revealed by Hirshfeld Surfaces. This material features antiferromagnetic exchange interactions as revealed by the magnetic susceptibility as a function of the temperature.

Novel amine templated three-dimensional zinc-organophosphonates with variable pore-openings

Amine templated three-dimensional zinc-organophosphates with different ring sizes have been obtained by varying the organic amine molecules. The figure shows the various net structures obtained during the study.

Speciation of metal phosphonates with the assistance of weak interactions

By employing an aromatic methyl substituted V-shaped diphosphonic acid as a ligand, a series of metal diphosphonates, namely [Cu3(HL)2(H2O)2][(H2O)2] (1), [Cu(H2L)(pyz)(H2O)2][(H2O)2] (2), [Cu(H2L)(2,2'-bipy)] (3), [Cu(H2L)(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)2] (4), [Zn(H2L)(2,2'-bipy)] (5) and [Cd(H2L)(2,2'-bipy)(H2O)][(H2O)6] (6), have been synthesized. The structural studies reveal that these compounds exhibit diverse crystal structures. The introduction of the methyl group and pyridine derived auxiliary ligands results in the formation of plenty of C-HO, C-Hπ and ππ interactions, which contribute to the crystallization of metal diphosphonates. It was found that the Zn and Cd containing compounds showed intense intraligand emissions.

Transition metal phosphonates with supramolecular structures: syntheses, structures, surface photovoltage and luminescence properties

Four new transition metal phosphonates with 2D and 3D supramolecular structures have been hydrothermally synthesized. The surface photovoltage and luminescence properties of the title compounds have also been studied.

Two fluorescent lead phosphonates for highly selective sensing of nitroaromatics (NACs), Fe3+ and MnO4− ions

Two novel lead(ii) phosphonates have been hydrothermally synthesized. The luminescence properties of compounds 1 and 2 have been investigated. Meanwhile, the selective fluorescent sensing properties of compounds 1 and 2 for p-NP, Fe³⁺ and MnO₄⁻ have also been demonstrated.

Cadmium(ii) carboxyphosphonates based on mixed ligands: syntheses, crystal structures and recognition properties toward amino acids

Three novel cadmium(ii) carboxyphosphonates have been hydrothermally synthesized. The luminescence properties of compounds 1–3 have been investigated. Meanwhile, the excellent abilities of compounds 2 and 3 for selective recognition of tryptophan (Trp) have been demonstrated.

Racemic cobalt phosphonates incorporating flexible bis(imidazole) co-ligands

By incorporating flexible bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (bix) co-ligands, four new racemic cobalt phosphonates with formulae Co3(3-ppap)2(1,4-bix)2(H2O)4·4H2O (1), Co3(3-ppap)2(1,3-bix)2(H2O)4·5H2O (2), Co3(3-ppap)2(1,2-bix)2(H2O)4·4H2O (3) and Co3(ppa)2(1,2-bix)2·4H2O (4) are isolated, where 3-ppapH3 represents 3-phenyl-3-((phosphonomethyl)amino)propanoic acid and ppaH3 is 2-phenyl-2-(phosphonomethylamino)acetic acid. Compounds 1-3 crystallize in the monoclinic space group P21/c and show two-dimensional structures in which the Co3(3-ppap)2 chains are bridged by 1,4-bix, 1,3-bix and 1,2-bix ligands in trans-modes, respectively. Within the chain, a racemic dimer of Co2(3-ppap)2(2-) is found, where the Co atoms are doubly bridged by O-P-O units from the (S)- and (R)-3-ppap(3-) ligands. The dimers are connected by another crystallographically independent Co atom through O-P-O linkages to form an infinite racemic chain. The packing modes of the layers in 1-3 are quite different, however, which are ABAB in the cases of 1 and 3 while ABCDABCD in the case of 2, attributed to the positional isomerism of the bix co-ligands. Compound 4 displays a chain structure in which the 1,2-bix bridges the Co atoms in cis-mode within the chain. Magnetic properties are investigated for all compounds.

Multidimensional (0D to 3D) Alkaline-Earth Metal Diphosphonates: Synthesis, Structural Diversity, and Luminescence Properties

A series of new alkaline-earth metal diphosphonate frameworks were successfully synthesized under solvothermal reaction condition (160 °C, 3 d) using 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid (CH3C(OH)(H2PO3)2, hedpH4) as a diphosphonate building block and Mg(II), Ca(II), Sr(II), or Ba(II) ions as alkaline-earth metal ion centers in water, dimethylformamide, and/or EtOH media. These diphosphonate frameworks, (H2NMe2)4[Mg(hedpH2)3]·3H2O (1), (H2NMe2)2[Ca(hedpH2)2] (2), (H2NMe2)2[Sr3(hedpH2)4(H2O)2] (3), and [Ba3(hedpH2)3]·H2O (4) exhibited interesting structural topologies (zero-, one-, two-, and three-dimensional (0D, 1D, 2D, and 3D, respectively)), which are mainly depending on the metal ions and the solvents used in the synthesis. The single-crystal analysis of these newly synthesized compounds revealed that 1 was a 0D molecule, 2 has 1D chains, 3 was a 3D molecule, and 4 has 2D layers. All compounds were further characterized using thermogravimetric analysis, solid-state (31)P NMR, powder X-ray diffraction analysis, UV-vis spectra, and infrared spectroscopy. In addition, Eu(III)- and Tb(III)-doped compounds of 1-4, namely, (H2NMe2)4[Ln(x)Mg(1-x)(hedpH2)2(hedpH(2-x))]·3H2O (1Ln), (H2NMe2)2[Ln(x)Ca(1-x)(hedpH2)(hedpH(2-x))] (2Ln), (H2NMe2)2[Ln(x)Sr(3-x)(hedpH2)3(hedpH(2-x))(H2O)2] (3Ln), and [Ln(x)Ba(3-x)(hedpH2)2(hedpH(2-x))]·H2O (4Ln) (where Ln = Eu, Tb), were synthesized, and their photoluminescence properties were studied. The quantum yield of 1Eu-4Eu was measured with reference to commercial red phosphor, Y2O2S:Eu(3+) (YE), and the quantum yield of terbium-doped compounds 1Tb-4Tb was measured with reference to commercial green-emitting phosphor CeMgAl10O17:Tb(3+). Interestingly, the compound 2Eu showed very high quantum yield of 92.2%, which is better than that of the reference commercial red phosphor, YE (90.8%).

Mixed-solvothermal synthesis, structures, surface photovoltage, luminescence and molecular recognition properties of three new transition metal phosphonates with 3D framework and supramolecular structures

Three new transition metal(ii) phosphonates have been synthesized under mixed-solvothermal conditions. Surface photovoltage and field-induced surface photovoltage spectroscopy of compounds 1 and 2 have been studied. Compound 3 could be used for the sensitive sensing of DMF.
