Abstract
High-energetic materials belong to two main classes: propellants and explosives. The still rather unexplored family of 1,3,5,2,4,6-trioxatriazinanes, N3O3R3, has a representative of each class. We have selected three compounds, R = H, R = CH3 and R = NO2, this last compound being known as TNTOTA, "trinitro-trioxa-triazinane". Of these compounds we have studied the conformational analysis, the nitrogen inversion, the heats of formation, and the dissociation reaction into the three monomers. In addition, the corresponding 1,3,2,4-dioxadiazetidines (N2O2R2) have also been studied.

Abstract
The possibility that the intramolecular Tr⋯S triel bond is strengthened by resonance is examined by quantum chemical calculations within the planar five-membered ring of TrH2-CRCR-CRS (Tr = Al, Ga, In; R = NO2, CH3). This internal bond is found to be rather short (2.4-2.7 Å) with a large bond energy between 12 and 21 kcal mol-1. The pattern of bond length alternation and atomic charges within the ring is consistent with resonance involving the conjugated double bonds. This resonance enhances the triel bond strength by some 25%. The electron-withdrawing NO2 group weakens the bond, but it is strengthened by the electron-donating CH3 substituent. NICS analysis suggests the presence of a certain degree of aromaticity within the ring.

Abstract
The PnF 2 (Pn=P,As,Sb,Bi) on a naphthalene scaffold can engage in an internal pnicogen Pn···N bond (PnB) with a NH 2 group placed close to it on the adjoining ring. An approaching neutral NH 3 molecule can engage in a second PnB with the central Pn, which tends to weaken the intramolecular bond. The presence of the latter in turn weakens the intermolecular PnB with respect to that formed in its absence. Replacement of the external NH 3 by a CN - anion causes a fundamental change in the bonding pattern, producing a fourth covalent bond with Pn, which rearranges into a trigonal bipyramidal motif. This addition disrupts the internal Pn···N pnicogen bond, recasting the PnF 2 ···NH 2 interaction into a NH···F H-bond.

Abstract
MCO3 (M=Zn, Cd, Hg) forms a spodium bond with nitrogen-containing bases (HCN, NHCH2 , NH3 ) and a pnicogen bond with FH2 Z (Z=P, As, Sb). The spodium bond is very strong with the interaction energy ranging from -31 kcal/mol to -56 kcal/mol. Both NHCH2 and NH3 have an equal electrostatic potential on the N atom, but the corresponding interaction energy is differentiated by 1.5-4 kcal/mol due to the existence of spodium and hydrogen bonds in the complex with NHCH2 as the electron donor. The spodium bond is weakest in the HCN complex, which is not consistent with the change of the binding distance. The spodium bond becomes stronger in the CdCO3 <ZnCO3 <HgCO3 sequence although the positive electrostatic potential on the Hg atom is smallest. This is because the electrostatic interaction is dominant in the spodium-bonded complexes of CdCO3 and ZnCO3 but the polarization interaction in that of HgCO3 . The pnicogen bond is much weaker than the spodium bond and the former has a larger enhancement than the latter in the FH2 Z⋅⋅⋅OCO2 M⋅⋅⋅N-base ternary complexes.

Abstract
The role of nitrogen, the first member of the pnicogen group, as an electron donor in hypervalent non-covalent interactions has been established long ago, while observation of its electron accepting capability is still elusive experimentally, and remains quite intriguing, conceptually. In the light of minimal computational exploration of this novel class of pnicogen bonding so far, the present work provides experimental proof with unprecedented clarity, for the existence of N(acceptor)N(donor) interaction using the model nitromethane (NM) molecule with ammonia (AM) as a Lewis base in NM-AM aggregates. The NM-AM dimer, in which the nitrogen atom of NM (as a unique pnicogen) accepts electrons from AM (the traditional electron donor), was synthesized at low temperatures under isolated conditions within inert gas matrixes and was characterized using infrared spectroscopy. The experimental generation of the NM-AM dimer stabilized via NN interaction has strong corroboration from ab initio calculations. Furthermore, confirmation regarding the directional prevalence of this NN interaction over C-HN and N-HO hydrogen bonding is elucidated quantitatively by quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM), electrostatic potential mapping (ESP), natural bond orbital (NBO), non-covalent interaction (NCI) and energy decomposition (ED) analyses. The present study also allows the extension of σ-hole/π-hole driven interactions to the atoms of the second period, in spite of their low polarizability.

Abstract
For the first time, unconventional ±R˙-hole interactions were unveiled in tetrel-containing complexes. The nature and characteristics of ±R˙-hole interactions were explored relative to their ±σ-hole counterparts for ˙TF3⋯ and W-T-F3⋯B/R˙/A complexes (where T = C, Si, and Ge, W = H and F, B = Lewis bases, R˙ = free radicals, and A = Lewis acids). In an effort to thoroughly investigate such interactions, a plethora of quantum mechanical calculations, including molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), maximum positive electrostatic potential (V s,max), point-of-charge (PoC), interaction energy, symmetry adapted perturbation theory (SAPT), and reduced density gradient-noncovalent interaction (RDG-NCI) calculations, were applied. The most notable findings to emerge from this study are that (i) from the electrostatic perspective, the molecular stabilization energies of ˙TF3 and W-T-F3 monomers became more negative as the Lewis basicity increased, (ii) the most stable complexes were observed for the ones containing Lewis bases, forming -σ-hole and -R˙-hole interactions, and the interaction energies systematically increased in the order H-T-F3⋯B < ˙TF3⋯B < F-T-F3⋯B, (iii) contrariwise, the +σ-hole and +R˙-hole interactions with Lewis acids are more energetically favorable in the order F-T-F3⋯A < ˙TF3⋯A < H-T-F3⋯A, and (iv) generally, the dispersion force plays a key role in stabilizing the tetrel-containing complexes, jointly with the electrostatic and induction forces for the interactions with Lewis bases and acids, respectively. Concretely, the findings presented in this paper add to our understanding of the characteristics and nature of such intriguing interactions.

Abstract
σ-hole and lone-pair (lp) hole interactions of trivalent pnicogen-bearing (ZF3) compounds were comparatively scrutinized, for the first time, under field-free and external electric field (EEF) conditions. Conspicuously, the sizes of the σ-hole and lp-hole were increased by applying an EEF along the positive direction, while the sizes of both holes decreased through the reverse EEF direction. The MP2 energetic calculations of ZF3⋯FH/NCH complexes revealed that σ-holes exhibited more impressive interaction energies compared to the lp-holes. Remarkably, the strengths of σ-hole and lp-hole interactions evolved with the increment of the positive value of the considered EEF; i.e., the interaction energy increased as the utilized EEF value increased. Unexpectedly, under field-free conditions, nitrogen-bearing complexes showed superior strength for their lp-hole interactions than phosphorus-bearing complexes. However, the reverse picture was exhibited for the interaction energies of nitrogen- and phosphorus-bearing complexes interacting within lp-holes by applying the high values of a positively directed EEF. These results significantly demonstrate the crucial influence of EEF on the strength of σ-hole and lp-hole interactions, which in turn leads to an omnipresent enhancement for variable fields, including biological simulations and material science.

Abstract
The tetrel bond (TB) recruits an element drawn from the C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb family as electron acceptor in an interaction with a partner Lewis base. The underlying principles that explain this attractive interaction are described in terms of occupied and vacant orbitals, total electron density, and electrostatic potential. These principles facilitate a delineation of the factors that feed into a strong TB. The geometric deformation that occurs within the tetrel-bearing Lewis acid monomer is a particularly important issue, with both primary and secondary effects. As a first-row atom of low polarizability, C is a reluctant participant in TBs, but its preponderance in organic and biochemistry make it extremely important that its potential in this regard be thoroughly understood. The IR and NMR manifestations of tetrel bonding are explored as spectroscopy offers a bridge to experimental examination of this phenomenon. In addition to the most common σ-hole type TBs, discussion is provided of π-hole interactions which are a result of a common alternate covalent bonding pattern of tetrel atoms.

Abstract
The potentiality of sp3-hybridized chalcogen-containing molecules to participate in lone-pair (lp) hole interactions was reported for the first time. lp hole interactions were characterized and compared to σ-hole ones for OF2 and SF2 molecules as a case study. Various quantum mechanical calculations, including molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), maximum positive electrostatic potential (V s,max), point of charge (PoC), symmetry-adapted perturbation theory (SAPT), quantum theory of atoms in molecule (QTAIM), and reduced density gradient-noncovalent interaction (RDG-NCI) calculations, were carried out. The more significant findings to emerge from this study are the following: (i) the V s,max calculation was proved to be an unreliable method to determine the precise σ-hole and lp hole locations. (ii) The maximum positive electrostatic potential of the σ hole and lp hole was found to be at the F-Chal···PoC angle (θ) of 180° and at the centroid of XYlp plane, respectively. (iii) Lewis basicity has a significant effect on the strength of σ-hole and lp hole interactions. (iv) The studied molecules more favorably interact with Lewis bases via the σ hole compared to the lp hole, and (v) stabilization of the σ-hole and lp hole interactions stems from the electrostatic and dispersion forces, respectively.

Abstract
Hydrogen bonds (HB) are arguably the most important noncovalent interactions in chemistry. We study herein how differences in connectivity alter the strength of HBs within water clusters of different sizes. We used for this purpose the interacting quantum atoms energy partition, which allows for the quantification of HB formation energies within a molecular cluster. We could expand our previously reported hierarchy of HB strength in these systems (Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2016, 18, 19557) to include tetracoordinated monomers. Surprisingly, the HBs between tetracoordinated water molecules are not the strongest HBs despite the widespread occurrence of these motifs (e.g., in ice Ih ). The strongest HBs within H2 O clusters involve tricoordinated monomers. Nonetheless, HB tetracoordination is preferred in large water clusters because (a) it reduces HB anticooperativity associated with double HB donors and acceptors and (b) it results in a larger number of favorable interactions in the system. Finally, we also discuss (a) the importance of exchange-correlation to discriminate among the different examined types of HBs within H2 O clusters, (b) the use of the above-mentioned scale to quickly assess the relative stability of different isomers of a given water cluster, and (c) how the findings of this research can be exploited to indagate about the formation of polymorphs in crystallography. Overall, we expect that this investigation will provide valuable insights into the subtle interplay of tri- and tetracoordination in HB donors and acceptors as well as the ensuing interaction energies within H2 O clusters.

Abstract
MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ calculations were performed on hydrides, fluorides, and chlorides of 1,8-bis(dichloroboryl)naphthalene and 1,2-bis(dichloroboryl)benzene. The theoretical analysis of BHB−, BFB−, and BClB− arrangements occurring in these complexes and classified as bifurcated triel bonds was partly based on decomposition of the energy of interaction. The latter was carried out for structures optimized using the DFT method. The complexes analyzed were characterized by a partly covalent character of the links to the hydride and halide anions; these anions strongly influenced the geometry of the complexes. The boron centers’ links for the neutral 1,8-bis(dichloroboryl)naphthalene and 1,2-bis(dichloroboryl)benzene molecules were characterized by approximately trigonal and planar configurations, while for anionic complexes, tetrahedral configurations were observed. The crystal structures of compounds related to species calculated here were found in the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD).

Abstract
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is a powerful tool for studying quantum information processing (QIP). Recently quantum technologies have been proposed to overcome the challenges in large-scale NMR QIP. Furthermore, computational chemistry can promote its improvement. Nuclear spins-1/2 are natural qubits and have been used in most NMR quantum computation experiments. However, molecules that enable many qubits NMR QIP implementations should meet some requirements regarding their spectroscopic properties. Exceptionally large through-space (TS) P-P spin-spin coupling constants (SSCC or J) observed in 1,8-diphosphanaphthalenes (PPN) and in naphtho[1,8- cd]-1,2-dithiole phenylphosphines (NTP) were proposed and investigated to provide more accurate control within large-scale NMR QIP. Spectroscopic properties of PPN and NTP derivatives were explored by theoretical strategies using locally dense basis sets (LDBS). 31P chemical shifts (δ) calculated at the B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ-J level and TS P-P SSCCs at the PBE1PBE/pcJ-2 (LDBS-1) level are very close to the experimental data for the PPN molecule. Differently, for the NTP dimer, PBE1PBE/pcJ-2 (LDBS-2) predicts more accurate 31P δ, whereas PBE1PBE/Def2-TZVP (LDBS-1) forecasts more accurate TS P-P SSCCs. From our results, PPNo-F, PPNo-ethyl, and PPNo-NH2 were the best candidates for NMR QIP, in which the large TS SSCCS could face the need of long-time quantum gates implementations. Therefore, it could overcome natural limitations concerning the development of large-scale NMR.

Abstract
A series of silyl and germanium complexes containing halogen atoms (fluorine and chlorine atoms) and exhibiting tetrel bonds with Lewis bases were analyzed by means of Møller-Plesset computational theory. Binding energies of germanium derivatives were more negative than silicon ones. Amongst the different Lewis bases utilized, ammonia produced the strongest tetrel bonded complexes in both Ge and Si cases, and substitution of the F atom by Cl led to stronger complexes with an ethylene backbone. However, with phenyl backbones, the fluorosilyl complexes were shown to be less stable than the chlorosilyl ones, but the opposite occurred for halogermanium complexes. In all the cases studied, the presence of a hydroxyl group enhanced the tetrel bond. That effect becomes more remarkable when an intramolecular hydrogen bond between the halogen and the hydrogen atom of the hydroxyl group takes places.

Computational Characterization of Bidentate P-Donor Ligands: Direct Comparison to Tolman's Electronic Parameters. Molecules 2018; 23:molecules23123176. Abstract
The applicability of two types of transition-metal carbonyl complexes as appropriate candidates for computationally derived Tolman's ligand electronic parameters were examined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations employing the B97D3 functional. Both Pd(0)L2(CO) and HRh(I)L2(CO) complexes correlated well with the experimental Tolman Electronic Parameter scale. For direct comparison of the electronic effects of diphosphines with those of monophosphines, the palladium-containing system is recommended. The t r a n s influence of various phosphines did not show a major difference, but the decrease of the H-Rh-P angle from linear can cause a significant change.

Abstract
The most stable geometries of the coinage metal (or regium) atom (Cu, Ag, Au) clusters Mn for n up to 6 are all planar, and adopt the lowest possible spin multiplicity. Clusters with even numbers of M atoms are thus singlets, while those with odd n are open-shell doublets. Examination of the molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) of each cluster provides strong indications of the most likely site of attack by an approaching nucleophile, generally one of two positions. A nucleophile (NH3 or HCN) most favorably approaches one particular M atom of each cluster, rather than a bond midpoint or face. In the closed-shell clusters, the interaction energies are highly dependent upon the intensity of the MEP, but this correlation fades for the open-shell systems studied in this work. The strength of the interaction is also closely related to the basicity of the nucleophile. Regium bond energies can be more than 30 kcal mol-1 and tend to follow the Au > Cu > Ag order. These interaction energies are in large part derived from Coulombic attraction, with a smaller orbital interaction contribution.

Intra-/Intermolecular Bifurcated Chalcogen Bonding in Crystal Structure of Thiazole/Thiadiazole Derived Binuclear (Diaminocarbene)PdII Complexes. CRYSTALS 2018. Abstract
The coupling of cis-[PdCl2(CNXyl)2] (Xyl = 2,6-Me2C6H3) with 4-phenylthiazol-2-amine in molar ratio 2:3 at RT in CH2Cl2 leads to binuclear (diaminocarbene)PdII complex 3c. The complex was characterized by HRESI+-MS, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and its structure was elucidated by single-crystal XRD. Inspection of the XRD data for 3c and for three relevant earlier obtained thiazole/thiadiazole derived binuclear diaminocarbene complexes (3a EYOVIZ; 3b: EYOWAS; 3d: EYOVOF) suggests that the structures of all these species exhibit intra-/intermolecular bifurcated chalcogen bonding (BCB). The obtained data indicate the presence of intramolecular S•••Cl chalcogen bonds in all of the structures, whereas varying of substituent in the 4th and 5th positions of the thiazaheterocyclic fragment leads to changes of the intermolecular chalcogen bonding type, viz. S•••π in 3a,b, S•••S in 3c, and S•••O in 3d. At the same time, the change of heterocyclic system (from 1,3-thiazole to 1,3,4-thiadiazole) does not affect the pattern of non-covalent interactions. Presence of such intermolecular chalcogen bonding leads to the formation of one-dimensional (1D) polymeric chains (for 3a,b), dimeric associates (for 3c), or the fixation of an acetone molecule in the hollow between two diaminocarbene complexes (for 3d) in the solid state. The Hirshfeld surface analysis for the studied X-ray structures estimated the contributions of intermolecular chalcogen bonds in crystal packing of 3a–d: S•••π (3a: 2.4%; 3b: 2.4%), S•••S (3c: less 1%), S•••O (3d: less 1%). The additionally performed DFT calculations, followed by the topological analysis of the electron density distribution within the framework of Bader’s theory (AIM method), confirm the presence of intra-/intermolecular BCB S•••Cl/S•••S in dimer of 3c taken as a model system (solid state geometry). The AIM analysis demonstrates the presence of appropriate bond critical points for these interactions and defines their strength from 0.9 to 2.8 kcal/mol indicating their attractive nature.

Abstract
The interaction between KrOF2 or XeOF2 and the 1,2, 1,3, and 1,4 diazines is characterized chiefly by a Kr/XeN aerogen bond, as deduced from ab initio calculations. The most stable dimers take advantage of the σ-hole on the aerogen atom, wherein the two molecules lie in the same plane. The interaction is quite strong, as much as 18 kcal mol-1. A second class of dimer geometry utilizes the π-hole above the aerogen atom in an approximate perpendicular arrangement of the two monomers; these structures are not as strongly bound: 6-8 kcal mol-1. Both sorts of dimers contain auxiliary CHF H-bonds which contribute to their stability, but even with their removal, the aerogen bond energy remains as high as 14 kcal mol-1. The nature and strength of each specific interaction is confirmed and quantified by AIM, NCI, NBO, and electron density shift patterns. There is not a great deal of sensitivity to the identity of either the aerogen atom or the position of the two N atoms in the diazine.

Abstract
A theoretical study of [X.X'.X'']phosphatrane:Lewis acid complexes has been carried out in order to analyze how the in:out and out:out conformations can be modulated by the interaction with Lewis acids (LA). It has been found that in:out structures are more stable in larger systems i.e. in [4.4.3]:LA and [4.4.4]:LA than in [3.3.3]:LA and [4.3.3]:LA. The results obtained for the relative energies in conjunction with electron density properties showed that upon complexation, in:out conformers become more stable with the increasing acidity of the corresponding Lewis acid. In fact, the binding energies found for in:out complexes are larger than those obtained for out:out complexes. The complexes with the largest relative energy favoring the in:out structure correspond to those with charged Lewis acids, followed by the complexes with ClF. In all cases, the complexes are cooperative, reaching a maximum value of 168.5 kJ mol-1 for the [4.3.3]:F+ complex.

Abstract
The ability of Be3 as a hydrogen bond acceptor has been explored by studying the potential complexes between this molecule and a set of hydrogen bond donors (HF, HCl, HNC, HCN, H2O, and HCCH). The electronic structure calculations for these complexes were carried out at the MP2 and CCSD(T) computational levels together with an extensive NBO, ELF, AIM, and electrostatic potential characterization of the isolated Be3 system. In all the complexes, the Be-Be σ bond acts as electron donor, with binding energies between 19 and 6 kJ mol-1. A comparison with the analogous cyclopropane:HX complexes shows similar binding energies and contributions of the DFT-SAPT energetic terms. A blue-shift of the harmonic frequencies of Be3 is observed upon complexation.

Abstract
Heterodimers are constructed containing imidazolium and its halogen-substituted derivatives as Lewis acid. N in its sp³, sp² and sp hybridizations is taken as the electron-donating base. The halogen bond is strengthened in the Cl < Br < I order, with the H-bond generally similar in magnitude to the Br-bond. Methyl substitution on the N electron donor enhances the binding energy. Very little perturbation arises if the imidazolium is attached to a phenyl ring. The energetics are not sensitive to the hybridization of the N atom. More regular patterns appear in the individual phenomena. Charge transfer diminishes uniformly on going from amine to imine to nitrile, a pattern that is echoed by the elongation of the C-Z (Z=H, Cl, Br, I) bond in the Lewis acid. These trends are also evident in the Atoms in Molecules topography of the electron density. Molecular electrostatic potentials are not entirely consistent with energetics. Although I of the Lewis acid engages in a stronger bond than does H, it is the potential of the latter which is much more positive. The minimum on the potential of the base is most negative for the nitrile even though acetonitrile does not form the strongest bonds. Placing the systems in dichloromethane solvent reduces the binding energies but leaves intact most of the trends observed in vacuo; the same can be said of ∆G in solution.

Abstract
The interactions of halides with a number of bipodal receptors were examined by quantum chemical methods. The receptors were based on a dithieno thiophene framework in which two S atoms can engage in a pair of chalcogen bonds with a halide. These two S atoms were replaced by P and As atoms to compare chalcogen with pnicogen bonding, and by Ge which engages in tetrel bonds with the receptor. Zero, one, and two O atoms were added to the thiophene S atom which is not directly involved in the interaction with the halides. Fluoride bound the most strongly, followed by Cl- , Br- , and I- , respectively. Replacing S by the pnicogen bonds of P strengthened the binding, as did moving down to As in the third row of the periodic table. A further large increment is associated with the switch to the tetrel bonds of Ge. Even though the thiophene S atom is remote from the binding site, each additional O atom added to it raises the binding energy, which can be quite large, as much as 63 kcal mol-1 for the Ge⋅⋅⋅F- interaction. The receptors have a pronounced selectivity for F- over the other halides, as high as 27 orders of magnitude. The data suggest that incorporation of tetrel atoms may lead to new and more powerful halide receptors.

The downfield shift of the NMR signal of the bridging proton in a H-bond (HB) is composed of two elements. The formation of the HB causes charge transfer and polarization that lead to a deshielding. A second factor is the mere presence of the proton-accepting group, whose electron density and response to an external magnetic field induce effects at the position of the bridging proton, exclusive of any H-bonding phenomenon. This second positional shielding must be subtracted from the full observed shift in order to assess the deshielding of the proton caused purely by HB formation. This concept is applied to a number of H-bonded systems, both intramolecular and intermolecular. When the positional shielding is removed, the remaining chemical shift is in much better coincidence with other measures of HB strength.

Abstract
In addition to the standard halogen bond formed when NH3approaches XCN (X = F, Cl, Br, I) along its molecular axis, a perpendicular approach is also possible, toward a π-hole that is present above the X–C bond.

Abstract
An analogue of carbene, singlet silylene (H3P=N)2Si, was paired with the mono-substituted phosphines XH2Y (X = P, As, and Sb; Y = F, Cl, Br, and I) to form unconventional pnicogen-bonded complexes. All structures have Cs symmetry except the Sb complex, showing a deviation from this symmetry due to the coexistence of H···H interactions. The P and As complexes have different geometries from conventional pnicogen-bonded ones because the Y-X···Si line shows a large deviation from the molecular plane composed of two N atoms and one Si atom of (H3P=N)2Si. This deviation can be attributed to a new formation mechanism of the pnicogen bond due to the combined result of the LPSi→ BD*X-Y and LPX→ LP*Si orbital interactions. Generally, the pnicogen bond becomes stronger in the order of F < Cl < Br < I and weaker in the order of P > As > Sb, exhibiting an unexpected substitution effect and dependence on the nature of the pnicogen atom. These orders are inconsistent with the MEP on the X atom but can be better explained by the above orbital interactions. The Si···X interaction displays a character of covalent or partially covalent interaction, evidenced by the high interaction energy of -59.9 to -105.4 kJ mol(-1) as well as the negative energy density and the great charge transfer.
