Abstract
The SEM-EDX method was used to investigate the structure and morphology of organic-inorganic hybrids containing zirconium, boron and phosphorus compounds, synthesized by the sol-gel method. We started by using, for the first time together, zirconyl chloride hexa-hydrate (ZrOCl2·6H2O), phenyl phosphinic acid and triethyl borate as precursors and reagents, at different molar ratios. The obtained hybrids showed a very high thermal stability and are not soluble in water or in organic solvents. As a consequence, such hybrid solid materials are suitable for applications at high temperatures. The obtained hybrids have complex 3D structures and form organic-inorganic networks containing Zr-O-Zr, Zr-O-P and Zr-O-B bridges. Such organic-inorganic networks are also expected to form supramolecular structures and to have many potential applications in different fields of great interest such as catalysis, medicine, agriculture, energy storage, fuel cells, sensors, electrochemical devices and supramolecular chemistry.

Abstract
Utilization of naturally occurring resources to construct functional catalytic materials is significantly important, and facile and environmental-benign strategies are highly desired to afford the materials having a specific structure and good catalytic activity. Herein, we reported an innovative deep eutectic solvent (DES)-assisted strategy to synthesize zirconium phytate with a thin nanosheet structure (denoted as Zr-Phy-DES) using plant-originated phytic acid (PhyA) as the renewable building block. This strategy was eco-friendly and adjustable owing to the designability of DESs. The Zr-Phy-DES as an acidic catalyst showed high activity on two important biomass transformations, i.e., dehydration of carbohydrates and Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley reduction of ethyl levulinate. Interestingly, Zr-Phy-DES showed higher catalytic performance than the zirconium phytates prepared in ethylene glycol and N,N-dimethylformamide, confirming the advantage of DESs for preparing functional materials. Notably, the unique feature of this proposed strategy is that renewable catalysts are prepared in an environmental-benign solvent for efficiently catalyzing biomass transformation. An eco-friendly strategy for preparing catalytic materials with a specific structure The catalytic activity of the prepared materials varied with the type of solvents The material prepared in deep eutectic solvent showed better performance Catalytic materials from natural resources and green solvents to convert biomass

Abstract
The use of readily prepared bisphosphonic acids obtained in few steps through a thio-Michael addition of commercially available thiols on tetraethyl vinylidenebisphosphonate enables the straightforward surface modification of amorphous mesoporous zirconia nanoparticles. Simple stirring of the zirconia nanoparticles in a buffered aqueous solution of the proper bisphosphonic acid leads to the surface functionalization of the nanoparticles with different kinds of functional groups, charge and hydrophobic properties. Formation of both chemisorbed and physisorbed layers of the bisphosphonic acid take place, observing after extensive washing a grafting density of 1.1 molecules/nm2 with negligible release in neutral or acidic pH conditions, demonstrating stronger loading compared to monophosphonate derivatives. The modified nanoparticles were characterized by IR, XPS, ζ-potential analysis to investigate the loading of the bisphosphonic acid, FE-SEM to investigate the size and morphologies of the nanoparticles and 31 P and 1 H MAS NMR to investigate the coordination motif of the phosphonate units on the surface. All these analytical techniques demonstrated the strong affinity of the bisphosphonic moiety for the Zr(IV) metal centers. The functionalization with bisphosphonic acids represents a straightforward covalent approach for tailoring the superficial properties of zirconia nanoparticles, much straightforward compared the classic use of trisalkoxysilane or trichlorosilane reagents typically employed for the functionalization of silica and metal oxide nanoparticles. Extension of the use of bisphosphonates to other metal oxide nanoparticles is advisable.

Abstract
In decimolar aqueous solutions, zirconium oxychloride octahydrate forms several micrometer long and approximately 15 nm wide thin ribbons through the reaction with excess amounts of the sodium salt of 1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP, known as etidronic acid). Primarily deduced from SAXS, TEM, EXAFS and solid-state NMR analyses, a consistent structural model enables congruous explanations for the colloidal behaviour of the purified ribbons as well as of their reaction products with ammonia and amines, respectively. Properties of the lyotropic, liquid crystalline phases are discussed in the light of potential applications in aqueous coatings.

Abstract
In the expansive world of porous hybrid materials, a category of materials that has been rather less explored than others and is gaining attention in development is the porous metal phosphonates. They offer promising features towards applications which demand control over the inorganic–organic network and interface, which is critical for adsorption, catalysis and functional devices and technology. The need to establish a rationale for new synthesis approaches to make these materials in a controlled manner is by itself an important motivation for material chemists. In this review, we highlight the various synthetic strategies exploited, discussing various metal phosphonate systems and how they influence the properties of porous metal phosphonates. We discuss porous metal phosphonate systems based on transition metals with an emphasis on addressing challenges with tetravalent metals. Finally, this review provides a brief description of some key areas of application that are ideally suited for porous metal phosphonates.

Abstract
Mesostructured aluminum phosphonates (AOP-x) bridging with 1,1'-hydroxyl ethylidene groups, including a lamellar mesostructure (AOP-N) with crystalline framework, a well-ordered 2D-hexagonal mesophase (AOP-Cl), and a particle-packed mesostructure (AOP-S), were simply synthesized in the presence of surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide in the ethanol-water system, by choosing Al(NO3)3, AlCl3 and Al2(SO4)3 as the aluminum source, respectively. The crystallinity, morphology, mesophase, and skeletal structure of the as-prepared materials were characterized by XRD, TEM, SEM, 27Al, 31P and 13C MAS NMR, and nitrogen sorption techniques. After calcination under N2 at 350 °C, the calcined AOP-x samples consist of aluminum phosphonate and phosphate, possessing desirable specific surface areas of 116-585 m2/g. The effect of the inorganic counteranions (NO3-, Cl- and SO42-) from the aluminum source on the formation of different AOP-x mesostructures was discussed in terms of their bind strength to the headgroups of the surfactant micelles, suggesting the potential for designed synthesis of non-silica-based mesostructured organic-inorganic hybrid materials.
