Abstract
Coordination-driven surface modification is an effective strategy to achieve nanosystem functionalization and improved physicochemical performance. Black phosphorus (BP)-based nanomaterials demonstrate great potential in cancer therapy, but their poor stability, low X-ray mass attenuation coefficient, and nonselectivity limit the application in radiotherapy. Herein, we used unsaturated iridium complex to coordinate with BP nanosheets to synthesize a two-dimensional layered nanosystem (RGD-Ir@BP) with higher biostability. Ir complex improves the photoelectric properties and photoinduced charge carrier dynamics of BP, hence Ir@BP generated more singlet oxygen after X-ray irradiation. In in vivo experiments, with X-ray irradiation, RGD-Ir@BP effectively inhibited nasopharyngeal carcinoma tumor growth but with minor side effects. Additionally, based on untargeted metabolomics analysis, the combined treatment specifically down-regulated the tumor proliferative mark of prostaglandin E2 in cancer cells. In general, this study provides a design strategy of high-performance coordination-driven BP-based nanosensitizer in cancer radiotherapy.

Abstract
A reaction of 6,6'-bis((benzylthio)methyl)-2,2'-bipyridine (L) with CuI at room temperature led to one Cu4I4-based cluster, which could be thermally transformed to a Cu2I2-based one under mild conditions due to the formation of a Cu-S bond. Along with the structural transformation, remarkable changes in the color and luminescence have been triggered.

Abstract
An Ir(iii) complex was synthesized using mixed ligands of biological importance, namely ibuprofen, flavonol and 2-phenylpyridine. The compound was characterized by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and TOF-MS spectroscopies and elemental analysis. Structures of the complex and its ligands were also calculated by density functional theory using B3LYP/Lanl2dz//6-31G(d) level of theory. Analyses of electrostatic potential, natural population, and frontier orbitals of the molecules as well as the calculation of intrinsic thermochemical properties such as bond dissociation enthalpy, ionization potential, electron affinity and proton affinity in the gas phase and in solvents (water and pentylethanoate) give the first indication that the complex is a potential antioxidant. The latter even shows better antioxidant capacity than the parent ligands. The antioxidant properties of the complex and its ligands were experimentally evaluated by studying the free radical scavenging activity towards HO˙, NO˙, DPPH˙ and ABTS˙+ radicals. Further computational work on the antioxidant processes such as the single electron transfer, the proton loss, the formal hydrogen transfer (FHT) and the radical adduct formation reactions was conducted. Results show that the FHT reaction is the mechanism responsible for the radical scavenging activity of the complex towards HO˙, HOO˙, NO˙ and DPPH˙ radicals while ABTS˙+ seems to be scavenged by an electron-donating mechanism. The FHT was further determined as a hydrogen-atom transfer but not a proton-couple electron transfer mechanism. A cyclometalated phenylpyridine iridium(iii) complex based on flavonol and ibuprofen was designed and its antioxidant activity was evaluated via experimental and theoretical studies.![]()

Abstract
Mononuclear and trinuclear bis‐cyclometallated IrIII complexes of the host ligands tris(4‐[4′‐methyl‐2,2′‐bipyridyl]methyl)cyclotriguaiacylene (L1) and tris(4‐(4′‐methyl‐2,2′‐ bipyridyl)carboxy)cyclotriguaiacylene (L2) have been prepared. Complexes [{Ir(ppy)2}3(L1)](PF6)3 (1.1), [{Ir(ppy)2}(L1)](PF6)3 (1.2), [{Ir(ppy)2}3(L2)](PF6)3 (2.1) and [{Ir(ppy)2}(L2)](PF6)3 (2.2) (where ppy=phenylpyridinato) showed distinct photophysical properties depending on the L ligand. Complexes featuring the L1 ligand were comparatively blue‐shifted in solution, with longer lifetimes and higher quantum yields. The mixed bis‐cyclometallated IrIII complexes [{Ir(ppy)2}{Ir(dFppy)2}2(L1)](PF6)3 (1.3), [{Ir(ppy)2}{Ir(dFppy)2}2(L2)](PF6)3 (2.3), [{Ir(ppy)2}2{Ir(dFppy)2}(L1)](PF6)3 (1.4) and [{Ir(ppy)2}2{Ir(dFppy)2}(L2)](PF6)3 (2.4) (where dFppy=2,4‐difluorophenylpyrinato) were also synthesised. Steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopy, along with electrochemical investigations, show that the Ir(III) chromophores within these mixed Ir‐environment species behave as isolated centres, with no energy transfer or electronic communication between them.

Abstract
Containing two nitrogen atoms, the electron-deficient pyrimidine ring has excellent coordinating capability with transition metal ions. However, compared with the widely used pyridine ring, applications of the pyrimidine ring in phosphorescent Ir(III) complexes are rare. In this research, two highly emissive pyrimidine-based mononuclear Ir(III) complexes and their corresponding dinuclear Ir(III) complexes were prepared with a simple one-pot reaction. The incorporation of the second Ir(III) center can lead to dramatic differences of both photophysical and electrochemical properties between the mono- and dinuclear complexes. Besides, these properties can also be fine-tuned with different substituents. Theoretical calculations have also been performed to understand their photophysical behaviors. The electroluminescent investigations demonstrate that the pyrimidine-based mono- and dinuclear Ir(III) complexes could show impressive device performance. The vacuum-deposited organic light-emitting diode (OLED) based on the mononuclear Ir(III) complex exhibited an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 16.1% with almost no efficiency roll-off even at 10 000 cd m-2. More encouragingly, the solution-processed OLED based on the dinuclear Ir(III) complex achieved the outstanding EQE, current efficiency (CE), and power efficiency (PE) of 17.9%, 52.5 cd A-1, and 51.2 lm W-1, respectively, representing the highest efficiencies ever achieved by OLEDs based on dinuclear Ir(III) complexes.

Abstract
Organobismuthines are an attractive class of organometallic reagents that can be accessed from inexpensive and nontoxic bismuth salts. Triarylbismuthines are particularly interesting due to their air and moisture stability and high functional group tolerance. We report herein a detailed study on the preparation of highly functionalized triarylbismuth reagents by triple functional group manipulation and their use in palladium- and copper-catalyzed C-, N-, and O-arylation reactions.

Abstract
Phosphorescent dinuclear iridium(III) complexes that can show high luminescent efficiencies and good electroluminescent abilities are very rare. In this paper, highly phosphorescent 2-phenylpyrimidine-based dinuclear iridium(III) complexes have been synthesized and fully characterized. Significant differences of the photophysical and electrochemical properties between the mono- and dinuclear complexes are observed. The theoretical calculation results show that the dinuclear complexes adopt a unique molecular orbital spatial distribution pattern, which plays the key role of determining their photophysical and electrochemical properties. More importantly, the solution-processed organic light-emitting diode (OLED) based on the new dinuclear iridium(III) complex achieves a peak external quantum efficiency (η(ext)) of 14.4%, which is the highest η(ext) for OLEDs using dinuclear iridium(III) complexes as emitters. Besides, the efficiencies of the OLED based on the dinuclear iridium(III) complex are much higher that those of the OLED based on the corresponding mononuclear iridium(III) complex.
