Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of an Au20(PET)15(DG)2 (PET = phenylethane thiol; DG = diglyme) cluster is reported. Mass spectrometry reveals this as the first diglyme ligated cluster where diglyme ligands survive ionization into the gas phase. Thermal analysis shows the cluster degrades at 156 °C, whereas the similar Au20(PET)16 cluster degrades at 125 °C, representing markedly increased thermal stability. A combination of NMR spectroscopy and computational modeling suggests that the diglyme molecules bind in a tridentate manner for this cluster, resulting in a binding energy of 35.2 kcal mol-1 for diglyme, which is comparable to the value of ∼40 kcal mol-1 for thiolates. IR and optical spectroscopies show no evidence of assembly of this cluster, in contrast to Au20(PET)15(DG), which readily assembles into dimeric species, which is consistent with a tridentate binding motif. Evidence for stacking among Au-bound and non-bound diglyme molecules is inferred from thermal and mass analysis.

Abstract
By changing the stoichiometric ratios, the one-pot reaction of the glycinehydroxamic acid (H2glyha) ligand with copper(ii) and lanthanide(iii) salts in the presence of diamagnetic [Na2{Fe(CN)5(NO)}] led to two series of isostructural complexes, which can be designated as heterotrimetallic dimeric clusters [{LnCu5(glyha)5}{Fe(CN)5(NO)}(H2O)4]2·xNO3·yH2O (x = 2, y = 11 for La (1), x = 2, y = 11 for Pr (2), and x = 2, y = 11 for Nd (3)) and heterotetrametallic coordination polymers [Na{LnCu5(glyha)5}{Fe(CN)5(NO)}2(H2O)x·yH2O]n (x = 6, y = 4 for Sm (4), x = 6, y = 0 for Gd (5), x = 6, y = 4 for Tb (6), x = 5, y = 5 Dy (7), and x = 6, y = 4 for Ho (8)). Each molecular structure contains LnIII[15-metallacrown-5] nodes and diamagnetic [Fe(CN)5(NO)]2- linkers. The resulting products demonstrate diversified structural frameworks due to the radius effect of LnIII ions and different bridging fashions of diamagnetic [Fe(CN)5(NO)]2- linkers. An analysis of magnetic susceptibilities reveals that 7 exhibits ferromagnetic coupling between CuII and DyIII ions and field-induced SMM behavior.

Abstract
The reactions of the diacylhydrazine ligands N,N′-bisalicyl-2,6-pyridine dicarbohydrazide (H6sphz) and N,N′-bis(3-methoxysalicyl)-2,6-pyridine dicarbohydrazide (H6msphz) with various 3d metal salts, afforded a series of coordination clusters, namely, [MnIII2MnII(sphz)(acac)2(CH3OH)4] (1, acac− = acetylacetone anions), [NiII3(msphz)(Py)4] (2, Py = pyridine), [CuII6(sphz)2(Py)4] (3) and [CuII6(msphz)2(Py)4]·2DMF·2H2O (4). Cluster 1 and 2 are single ligand assembled quasi-linear trinuclear structures. Both 3 and 4 consist a pair of quasi-linear {Cu3} cores, which are linked together by two crossed ligands. The adjacent 3d metal ions in all trinuclear cores of 1–4 are bridged by N–N single bonds of ligands, which convey ferromagnetic (FM) interactions between 3d metal centers of 1, and antiferromagnetic (AFM) interactions between those of 2–4. In particular, the FM interactions and linear arrangement of mixed-valence Mn centers in 1 result in a large spin ground states value (ST) of 13/2, as well as single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior of slow relaxation and hysteresis of magnetization. A family of 3d metal clusters featuring N–N single bonds bridged quasi-linear trinuclear cores were designed and synthesized. The Mn analogue represents a very rare case of quasi-linear 3d SMM using N–N single bonds as magnetic coupling pathways.![]()
