Abstract
The complex [Pt(AEP)Cl2]; C-1 (where, AEP = 1-(2-Aminoethyl) pyrrolidine) and its hydrolyzed diaqua form cis-[Pt(AEP)(H2O)2]2+; C-2 were synthesized for their bioactivity and in vitro kinetic study with bioactive thiol group (-SH) containing ligands (like; L- cysteine and N-ac-L- cysteine) for their biological importance for 'drug reservoir' activity. The Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) was executed to confirm about the weight loss due to coordinated water molecules at high temperature range. At pH 4.0, the substitution behavior of C-2 with the thiols was studied in pseudo-first order reaction condition. The interaction mechanism of thiols with complex C-2 to their corresponding thiol substituted C-3 [Pt(AEP)(L-cys)] and C-4 [Pt(AEP)(N-ac-L-cys)] (where L-cys = L-cysteine and N-ac-L-cys = N-ac-L- cysteine) were proposed from their thermodynamical activation parameters (ΔH≠ and ΔS≠), which were obtained from Eyring equation. DNA and BSA binding activity of the complexes C-1 to C-4 were investigated by gel electrophoresis technique, spectroscopic titration and viscosity methods. The binding activity of the complexes with DNA and BSA was evaluated using a theoretical approach molecular docking study. The drug-like nature of the complexes is supported by the prediction of activity spectra for substance (PASS) from 2D structure of the Pt(II) complexes. Structural optimization, HOMO-LUMO energy calculation, Molecular electrostatic potential surface, NBO and TD-DFT calculation were executed by using density functional theory (DFT) with Gaussian 09 software package to pre-assessment of biological activity of the complexes. DFT-based descriptors were determined from the HOMO-LUMA energy to be related with the ability of binding affinity of Pt(II) complexes towards DNA and BSA to the formation of their corresponding adducts. The anticancer property of the design complexes were examined on HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma) cancer cell lines and as well as human normal cell NKE (Normal Kidney Epithelial) and compared with the recognised anticancer drug cisplatin. The Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production was assessed by DCFDA assay in presence of the Pt(II) complexes.

Abstract
Pt(II) complex cis-[Pt(PEA)(OH2)2] X2, C-2 (where, PEA = 2-Pyridylethylamine and X = ClO4- or NO3-) was synthesized by hydrolysis of cis-[Pt(PEA)Cl2] C-1. Glutathione (GSH) and DL-penicilamine (DL-pen) substituted complexes cis-[Pt(PEA)(GSH)],C-3 and cis-[Pt(PEA)DL-pen)]X C-4 were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods. Kinetic studies were traced on complex C-2 with the thiols, GSH and DL-pen. Pt(II)-Sulfur adduct formation mechanisms of the substituted products C-3 and C-4 were established from the kinetic investigation. At pH 4.0, C-2 - thiols interactions follow two consecutive steps: the first step is dependent, and the second is independent of [thiol]. The association equilibrium constant (KE), substitution rate constants for both steps (k1 & k2), and activation parameters (ΔH‡ and ΔS‡) have been assessed to propose the mechanism. Agarose gel electrophoresis mobilization pattern of DNA with complexes was performed to visualize the interaction nature. CT-DNA and BSA binding activities of the complexes have been executed by electronic, fluorescence spectroscopy, and viscometric titration methods. Evaluation of thermodynamic parameters (ΔH0, ΔS0, and ΔG0) from BSA binding constants was executed to propose the driving forces of interaction between these species. A molecular docking study was performed to evaluate the binding mode of complexes with BDNA strands. Anticancer activity of the complexes C-1 to C-4 was explored on both A549 and HEp-2 cell lines, compared with approved anticancer drugs cisplatin, carboplatin, and oxaliplatin. All these complexes were tested by NBT assay on normal cell line skeletal muscle cells (L6 myotubes) to observe the adverse effects compared to recognized anticancer medications. The ultimate aim is to explore the role of anticancer agents on cell death mechanism, which has been performed by flow-cytometer on HEp-2 cell lines.

Abstract
N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) adducts have shown remarkable biological potential for numerous medical applications. With an aim to improve biological potential of benzimidazolium salts, newer analogues of benzimidazole and their silver complexes were synthesized and characterized. Synthesized salts (L1-L2) and silver complexes (C1-C2) were confirmed through elemental analysis, UV-visible spectroscopy, FTIR, 1H NMR & 13C NMR spectroscopy. The compounds C1 & C2 were found stable in solution form for studied time period when examined spectroscopically and showed optimum lipophilicity when measured for their partition coefficient through flask shake method. Synthesized compounds showed good antimicrobial potential against gram positive bacterial strain S. Aureus with IC50 2.02±0.12 and 2.11±0.13 µM respectively while 2.11±0.1 and 2.28±0.17 µM against gram negative bacterial strain E. Coli for C1 and C2 respectively. The interaction study of the related compounds with DNA was predicted by molecular docking study, which confirmed that the studied compound C1 (-8.04 kcal/mol) has a higher binding energy than compound C2 (-4.23 kcal/mol); Also, the compound C1 exhibits a better affinity against to DNA than Ethidium bromide (-7.68 kcal/mol) and cisplatin (-6.21 kcal/mol).The claim was practically assured through spectroscopic and viscometeric method which confirmed that compounds have good affinity for DNA with binding constant kb, 5.78×104 M-1 and 6.84×104 M-1 for C1 and C2 respectively.

Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis, characterisation and preliminary biological evaluation of two novel silver(i) complexes of type [AgL2](NO3)3 (3 and 4) with ionic N-donor benzimidazoles. The complexes have been synthesized by the reaction of 1.5 equivalents of silver nitrate and N-donor benzimidazoles containing an imidazolium core at the 2-position (1 and 2) in ethanol. The X-ray analysis of 4 shows that it has two free imidazolium cores and the charge is balanced with three nitrate anions. A study by the combination of NMR, IR, LC-MS and elemental analysis techniques also suggests that the complexes have this structure both in the solid-state and solution. The complexes are highly soluble and stable in water. Cytotoxicity evaluation against four cancerous human cells and one non-cancerous human cell revealed that the complexes have no significant anti-growth effect. However, the complexes showed a remarkable antimicrobial effect at normalized minimum inhibitory concentrations (normalized MICs) in the range of 33-268 μM against a panel of microorganisms consisting of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, and fungi.

Abstract
Abstract
In this work, a new type of zinc(II) coordination polymer {[Zn(HIDC)(BBM)0.5]·H2O}
n
(Zn-CP) was synthesized using 4,5-imidazoledicarboxylic acid (H3IDC) and 2,2-(1,4-butanediyl)bis-1,3-benzimidazole (BBM) under hydrothermal conditions. Its structure has been characterized by infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The Zn(II) ion is linked by the HIDC2− ligand to form a zigzag chain by chelating and bridging, and then linked by BBM to form a layered network structure. Adjacent layers are further connected by hydrogen bond interaction to form a 3-D supramolecular framework. The solid-state fluorescence performance of Zn-CP shows that compared with free H3IDC ligand, its fluorescence intensity is significantly enhanced.

Abstract
Abstract
A new one-dimensional Zn(II) coordination polymer, {[ZnCl2(BBM)]·CH3OH}
n
(2,2-(1,4-butanediyl)bis-1,3-benzimidazole [BBM]), has been obtained from the hydrothermal reaction of zinc chloride with the flexible bis-benzimidazole ligand BBM and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR and UV–vis spectra. Structural analysis has revealed that the BBM ligand connects the Zn(II) atoms to form a square-wave chain, which is further extended into supramolecular layers through hydrogen bonds and π···π stacking interactions. Solid-state fluorescence investigations showed that the Zn(II) coordination polymer has an emission peak at 381 nm upon excitation at 330 nm, which is attributed to ligand-centered luminescence. It is only slightly red shifted as compared to the ligand but partially quenched due to the strong π···π stacking interactions.

Abstract
The binuclear silver(I) complex [Ag2(η2-SPPh3)2(SPPh3)2](BF4)2 has been synthesized. Crystal analysis shows the coordination sphere around Ag(I) can be described as a three-coordinated slightly distorted planar triangular configuration with both monodentate and monoatomic bidentate bridging coordination modes for the SPPh3 ligand. The fluorescence properties of free SPPh3 and the Ag(I) complex have been studied in the solid state. The Ag(I) complex shows quasi-reversible Ag+/Ag pairs in its electrochemistry and has significant antioxidant activity against hydroxyl radicals.

Abstract
Three mononuclear Cu(I) complexes, namely, [Cu(2-PBO)(PPh3)2]·ClO4·2CH2Cl2 (1), [Cu(3-PBO)(PPh3)2(ClO4)]·CH2Cl2 (2) and [Cu(PBM)(PPh3)2]·ClO4 (3) (2-PBO = 2-(2'-Pyridyl)benzoxazole, 3-PBO = 2-(3'-Pyridyl)benzoxazole, PBM = 2-(2'-Pyridyl)benzimidazole, PPh3 = triphenylphosphine) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, X-ray single crystal diffraction and thermal analysis. Photoluminescent investigation shows that complexes 1-3 exhibit distinct tunable light green (512 nm)-to-yellow (557 nm) photoluminescence by varying the N-heterocyclic ligands. Three complexes show intense 2-PBO-based yellow, 3-PBO-based light green and intense PBM-based bright green luminescence upon irradiation with a standard UV lamp (λex = 254 nm) at room temperature. Moreover, the electrochemical properties of 1-3 have been investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The results suggest the frontier molecular orbits and the HOMO-LUMO energy gaps of these cuprous complexes are effectively adjusted through the introduction of different N-heterocyclic ligands, thus achieving the selective luminescence of the cuprous complexes.

Abstract
Abstract
A new modification of the homometallic silver(I) cluster [Ag4Br4(PPh3)4] has been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, UV/Vis and IR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. The tetramer shows a polycyclic structure with a chair conformation. The bromine atoms adopt μ
2- and μ
3-bridging modes. The shortest Ag–Ag distance in the cluster is 3.159(2) Å, which indicates significant Ag–Ag interactions. A supramolecular structure is arranged by hydrogen bonds (C–H···Br). Cyclic voltammograms of the cluster indicate a quasi-reversible Ag+/Ag couple. The fluorescence properties of the ligand and the Ag(I) cluster were studied in the solid state. The emission peaks of the Ag(I) cluster are attributed to ligand-centered luminescence.

Abstract
The complex [Ag(bebt)(cinnamate)] [bebt = 1,3-bis(1-ethylbenzimidazol-2-yl)-2-thiapropane], has been synthesised and characterised by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that the coordination environment of the Ag(I) complex can be described as trigonal planar, and the Ag(I) atom is coordinated by one oxygen atom from a cinnamate anion and two nitrogen atoms from ligand bebt. Experimental studies of the DNA-binding properties indicated that the free ligand and the complex bind to DNA via the intercalation mode, and the binding affinity of the complex was found to be greater than that of just bebt.

Abstract
Reverse Watson-Crick DNA with parallel-strand orientation (ps DNA) has been constructed. Pyrrolo-dC (PyrdC) nucleosides with phenyl and pyridinyl residues linked to the 6 position of the pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine base have been incorporated in 12- and 25-mer oligonucleotide duplexes and utilized as silver-ion binding sites. Thermal-stability studies on the parallel DNA strands demonstrated extremely strong silver-ion binding and strongly enhanced duplex stability. Stoichiometric UV and fluorescence titration experiments verified that a single (2py) PyrdC-(2py) PyrdC pair captures two silver ions in ps DNA. A structure for the PyrdC silver-ion base pair that aligns 7-deazapurine bases head-to-tail instead of head-to-head, as suggested for canonical DNA, is proposed. The silver DNA double helix represents the first example of a ps DNA structure built up of bidentate and tridentate reverse Watson-Crick base pairs stabilized by a dinuclear silver-mediated PyrdC pair.
