Abstract
This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of a series of novel monomeric aqua-ligated iron(III) complexes, [FeIII(L5R)(OH2)]2+ (R=OMe, H, Cl, NO2), supported by an amide-containing pentadentate N5 donor ligand, L5R [HL5R=2-(((1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)methyl)(pyridin-2-yl-methyl)amino)-N-(5-R-quinolin-8-yl)acetamide]. The complexes were characterized by various spectroscopic and analytical techniques, including electrochemistry and magnetic measurements. The Fe(III)-hydroxo complexes, [FeIII(L5R)(OH)]1+, were generated in situ by deprotonating the corresponding aqua complexes in a pH ~7 aqueous medium. In another way, adding one equivalent of a base to a methanolic solution of the Fe(III)-aqua complexes also produced the Fe(III)-hydroxo complexes. The study uses linoleic fatty acid as a substrate to explore the hydrogen atom abstraction (HAA) reactivity of both hydroxo and aqua complexes. The investigation highlights the substitution effect of the L5R ligand on reactivity, revealing a higher rate when an electron-withdrawing group is present. Hammett analyses and(or) determination of the asynchronicity factor (η) suggest an oxidative asynchronous concerted proton-electron transfer (CPET) pathway for the HAA reactions. Aqua complexes exhibited a higher asynchronicity in CPET, resulting in higher reaction rates than their hydroxo analogs. Overall, the work provides insights into the beneficial role of a higher imbalance in electron-transfer-proton-transfer (ET-PT) contributions in HAA reactivity.

Abstract
AC susceptibility measurements of [FeIII(L5)(NCSe)] reveal a field supported slow magnetic relaxation. On cooling, the relaxation time of the high-frequency fraction decreases which is a sign of reciprocating thermal behaviour. The relaxation time for the low-frequency mode at T = 2.0 K is as high as τ(LF) = 2.0 s.

Abstract
Fe(III) complexes are receiving ever-increasing attention as spin crossover (SCO) systems because they are usually air stable, as opposed to Fe(II) complexes, which are prone to oxidation. Here, we present the first systematic study exclusively devoted to assess the accuracy of several exchange-correlation functionals when it comes to predicting the energy gap between the high-spin (S = 5/2) and the low-spin (S = 1/2) states of Fe(III) complexes. Using a dataset of 24 different Fe(III) hexacoordinated complexes, it is demonstrated that the B3LYP* functional is an excellent choice not only for predicting spin-state energy gaps for Fe(III) complexes undergoing spin-transitions but also for discriminating Fe(III) complexes that are either low- or high-spin in the whole range of temperatures. Our benchmark study has led to the identification of a very versatile Fe(III) compound whose SCO properties can be engineered upon changing a single axial ligand. Overall, this work demonstrates that B3LYP* is a reliable functional for screening new spin-crossover systems with tailored properties.

Abstract
The crystal structure and magnetic properties of two mononuclear iron(iii) Schiff base complexes, [FeL1(NCS)2] (1), HL1 = 2-[1-[[2-[(2-aminoethyl)amino]ethyl]imino]ethyl]phenol and [FeL2(N3)Cl] (2), HL2 = 2-(-1-(2-(2-aminoethylamino)ethylimino)ethyl)-4-methylphenol are reported. Each complex contains a Fe(iii) ion surrounded by a N3O Schiff base ligand and two NCS− ligands (in 1) or one N3− and one Cl− ligands (in 2). The magnetic properties can be well reproduced with zero field splittings in the high spin S = 5/2 Fe(iii) ions and weak intermolecular Fe–Fe interactions mediated by hydrogen bonds. This intermolecular antiferromagnetic interaction has been validated by using DFT calculations in complex 2. Moreover, the interaction energies of the H-bonded dimers in both complexes have been estimated using DFT calculations and characterized using a combination of QTAIM and NCI plot computational tools. Complexes 1 and 2 constitute two rare examples of Fe(iii) complexes with magnetic interactions through H-bonds. H-Bond mediated magnetic interactions in mononuclear iron(iii) Schiff base complexes were studied experimentally and validated by using DFT calculations. ![]()

Abstract
Various substituted 2-hydroxybenzophenones were combined with aliphatic linear triamines to form pentadentate Schiff base ligands. Twelve new iron(III) complexes with the general formula [Fe(Ln )X].mCH3 CN (n=1-10; X=N3 - , NCS- or NCSe- ; m=0-2) have been synthesized, and spectrally as well as structurally characterized. The structural analysis revealed a notable dependence of coordination polyhedra deformation as well as the spatial configuration of donor atoms on the length and symmetry of the Schiff base ligands. The magnetic properties of the compounds were investigated and the permanent high-spin state (S=5/2) for all reported compounds was established, and allowed calculation of zero-field-splitting parameters as well as coupling constants, which were further confirmed with DFT calculations. The solid-state EPR spectra were recorded at 293 K and 98 K, and in accordance with the magnetic measurements, showed a high-spin state in the measured temperature range.

Abstract
X-ray crystal structures and magnetic properties of an isostructural series of iron(III) Schiff base complexes with the general formula [Fe(L(5))(NCX)]·Solv (where H2L(5) = N,N'-bis(2-hydroxy-naphthylidene)-1,6-diamino-4-azahexane, X = S, Solv = tetrahydrofuran, 1a; X = S, Solv = methanol and 0.5 pyrazine, 1b; X = S, Solv = butanone, 1c; Solv = N,N'-dimethylformamide, X = S (1d) or X = Se (1d'); X = S, Solv = dimethyl sulfoxide, 1e) are reported. In the crystals, the individual [Fe(L(5))(NCX)] molecules are connected through weak C-H···O, C-H···π or C-H···S non-covalent contacts into 2D supramolecular networks, while the guest-solvent (Solv) molecules are trapped in the cavities between two adjacent layers, which are furthermore stabilized by N-H···O hydrogen bonds connecting the Solv oxygen atom with the amine group of the [Fe(L(5))(NCX)] molecule, with the N···O distances varying from 2.921(6) Å (in 1d') to 3.295(2) Å (in 1a). The magnetic properties of the complexes were tuned by the different Solv molecules and as a result of this, four new spin crossover (SCO) compounds with cooperative spin transitions are reported, which are accompanied by thermal hysteresis in two cases (1d and 1e): , T1/2 = 84 K; 1d, T1/2↓ = 232 K, T1/2↑ = 235 K and 1e, T1/2↓ = 127 K, T1/2↑ = 138 K. The role of the N-H···O hydrogen bonding in the occurrence and tuning of SCO was also computationally studied using a topological analysis, and also by evaluation of non-covalent interaction (NCI) indexes. Both theoretical approaches showed a clear relationship between the strength of the N-H···O hydrogen bonds and T1/2, as already inferred from X-ray structural and magnetic data.
