Abstract
The band structure and the Fermi surface of the recently discovered superconductor (EMIM)xFeSe are studied within the density functional theory in the generalized gradient approximation. We show that the bands near the Fermi level are formed primarily by Fe-d orbitals. Although there is no direct contribution of EMIM orbitals to the near-Fermi level states, the presence of organic cations leads to a shift of the chemical potential. It results in the appearance of small electron pockets in the quasi-two-dimensional Fermi surface of (EMIM)xFeSe.

Abstract
Tunable electronic properties of low-dimensional materials have been the object of extensive research, as such properties are highly desirable in order to provide flexibility in the design and optimization of functional devices. In this study, we account for the fact that such properties can be tuned by embedding diverse metal atoms and theoretically study a series of new organometallic porous sheets based on two-dimensional tetraoxa[8]circulene (TOC) polymers doped with alkali or alkaline-earth metals. The results reveal that the metal-decorated sheets change their electronic structure from semiconducting to metallic behaviour due to n-doping. Complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) calculations reveal a unique open-shell singlet ground state in the TOC-Ca complex, which is formed by two closed-shell species. Moreover, Ca becomes a doublet state, which is promising for magnetic quantum bit applications due to the long spin coherence time. Ca-doped TOC also demonstrates a high density of states in the vicinity of the Fermi level and induced superconductivity. Using the ab initio Eliashberg formalism, we find that the TOC-Ca polymers are phonon-mediated superconductors with a critical temperature TC = 14.5 K, which is within the range of typical carbon based superconducting materials. Therefore, combining the proved superconductivity and the long spin lifetime in doublet Ca, such materials could be an ideal platform for the realization of quantum bits.

Abstract
Semiconductor-based photocatalysts have received extensive attention for their promising capacity in confronting global energy and environmental issues. In photocatalysis, a large band gap with suitable edge-position is necessary to warrant enough driving force for reaction, whereas a much smaller band gap is needed for visible-light response and high solar energy conversion efficiency. This paradox hinders the development of photocatalysts. Via state-of-the-art first-principles calculations, we find that the transition dipole moments (TDMs) are changed significantly in O-doped partly polymerized g-C3N4, i.e., OH-terminated polymeric heptazine imide (PHI-OH), and concomitantly, an enhancement of visible-light absorption is achieved; meanwhile a large enough band gap can provide a powerful driving force in the photocatalytic watersplitting reaction. Furthermore, by using TDM analysis of the PHI-OH/BC3N heterostructure, direct light excited transition between two building layers can be confirmed, suggesting it as a candidate catalyst for hydrogen evolution. From TDM analysis of the PHI-OH/BCN heterostructure, we also verify a Z-scheme process, which involves simultaneous photoexcitations with strong reducibility and oxidizability. Thus, TDM could be a good referential descriptor for revealing photocatalytic mechanisms in semiconductor photocatalysts and interlayer photoexcitation behavior in layered heterostructures. Hopefully, more strategies via modification of TDMs would be proposed to enhance the visible-light response of a semiconductor without sacrificing its photocatalytic driving force.

Abstract
In the present investigation, we have proposed a novel form of two-dimensional (2D) carbon allotropes with the aid of first-principle density functional theory-based calculations. The carbon polymorph is mainly composed of carbon pentagons (cp) and acetylenic linkers and hence named cp-graphyne. This 2D material is energetically more preferable than the rest of the semimetals of graphyne family, including graphdiyne monolayer. Close inspection of lattice dynamics and thermal and mechanical properties demonstrates the excellent dynamic, thermal, and mechanical stabilities of cp-graphyne. Interestingly, cp-graphyne exhibits a semimetallic nature and possesses double distorted Dirac points in the electronic band spectrum. The Fermi velocities (v f) of cp-graphyne are highly anisotropic and are predicted to be in the range of 1.50-8.20 × 105 m/s. Furthermore, the analysis of structural and electronic properties of the cp-graphyne bilayer discloses the presence of self-doped Dirac-like points nearer to the Fermi level in the electronic spectrum.

Abstract
Motivated by the recent experimental advances in exfoliating Egyptian blue monolayers, we have carried out extensive calculations using density functional theory to understand their geometry, stability, mechanical properties, electronic structures, and magnetism. Upon exfoliation from the bulk, XCuSi4O10 (X = Ca, Sr, and Ba) monolayers are found to change symmetry from tetragonal to orthorhombic. They all satisfy Born criteria and are mechanically stable. Each Cu site carries a magnetic moment of 1.0 μB but with degenerate ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic coupling states. From Ca to Sr and Ba, as the atomic number increases, the thickness, elastic constants, Young's moduli, and Poisson's ratios of the monolayers increase, while the band gaps decrease. Applying strain can tune the magnitude of energy band gaps, but the direct gap feature remains. Complementing the widely studied graphene, MXenes, black phosphorus, and dichalcogenide sheets, the Egyptian blue monolayers add additional features to the family of two-dimensional materials.
