Abstract
A series of β-d-glucopyranosyl derivates have been synthesized and evaluated in photooxidation reactions promoted by visible light and mediated by organic dyes under aerobic conditions. Among the different photocatalysts employed, tetra-O-acetyl riboflavin afforded chemoselectively the respective sulfoxides, without over-oxidation to sulfones, in good to excellent yields and short reaction times. This new methodology for the preparation of synthetically useful glycosyl sulfoxides constitutes a catalytic, efficient, economical, and environmentally friendly oxidation process not reported so far for carbohydrates.

Decarboxylative thiolation of redox-active esters to free thiols and further diversification. Nat Commun 2020; 11:5340. Abstract
Thiols are important precursors for the synthesis of a variety of pharmaceutically important sulfur-containing compounds. In view of the versatile reactivity of free thiols, here we report the development of a visible light-mediated direct decarboxylative thiolation reaction of alkyl redox-active esters to free thiols based on the abundant carboxylic acid feedstock. This transformation is applicable to various carboxylic acids, including primary, secondary, and tertiary acids as well as natural products and drugs, forging a general and facile access to free thiols with diverse structures. Moreover, the direct access to free thiols affords an advantage of rapid in situ diversification with high efficiency to other important thiol derivatives such as sulfide, disulfide, thiocyanide, thioselenide, etc. Thiols are important precursors for the synthesis of a variety of pharmaceutically important sulfur-containing compounds. Here, the authors report a visible light-mediated decarboxylative thiolation of alkyl redox-active esters to free thiols and the in situ product diversification of a number of thiol derivatives.

Abstract
The preparation of well-defined d-xylo and d-ribo glycosides represents a synthetic challenge due to the limited configurational availability of starting materials and the laborious synthesis of homogeneous 2-deoxy-β-glycosidic linkages, in particular that of the sugar-steroid motif, which represents the "stereoselective determining step" of the overall synthesis. Herein we describe the use of 2-deoxy-2-iodo-glycopyranosyl sulfoxides accessible from widely available d-xylose and d-ribose monosaccharides as privileged glycosyl donors that permit activation at very low temperature. This ensures a precise kinetic control for a complete 1,2-trans stereoselective glycosylation of particularly challenging steroidal aglycones.

Abstract
Separation of the diastereomers of glycosyl sulfoxides differing in the sulfur chirality has been difficult. This article presents a fast and scalable method for their diastereoseparation using a chiral stationary phase. The usefulness of this method was demonstrated in a 500-mg scale separation within 20 min, and in the separation of trisaccharyl sulfoxide diastereomers. Further studies on cation clock reactions in glycosylation: observation of a configuration specific intramolecular sulfenyl transfer and isolation and characterization of a tricyclic acetal. Abstract
The use of the 2-O-(2-trimethylsilylmethallyl) group as intramolecular nucleophile and cation clock reaction in the glucopyranose series depends on the nature of the glycosyl donor. As previously reported, with trichloroacetimidates the anticipated intramolecular Sakurai reaction proceeds efficiently and is an effective clock, whereas with sulfoxides complications arise. The source of these complications is now shown to be an intramolecular sulfenyl transfer reaction between the tethered allylsilane and the activated sulfoxide. These results illustrate how a different unimolecular clock reaction may be required for a given cation when it is generated from different donors in order to avoid side reactions. The synthesis and cyclization of a 2-O-(3-hydroxypropyl) glucopyranosyl sulfoxide leading on activation to the formation of a trans-fused acetal is also described. The formation of this crystallographically-established trans-fused acetal is discussed in terms of the high effective concentration of the intramolecular nucleophile which leads to a high degree of a SN2 character in the displacement of the α-glucosyl triflate or at the level of the corresponding α-CIP. The possible use of such intramolecular alcohols as clock reactions and their limitations is discussed.
