Abstract
Mechanically interlocked molecules have fascinated chemists for decades. Initially a tantalising synthetic challenge, interlocked molecules have continued to capture the imagination for their aesthetics and, increasingly, for their potential as molecular machines and use in materials applications. Whilst preliminary statistical attempts to prepare these molecules were exceedingly inefficient, a raft of template-directed strategies have now been realised, providing a vast toolbox from which chemists can access interlocked structures in excellent yields. For many envisaged applications it is desirable to move away from small, discrete interlocked molecules and turn to oligomers and polymers instead, either due to the need for multiple mechanical bonds within the desired material, or to exploit an extended scaffold for the organisation and arrangement of individual mechanically interlocked units. In this tutorial-style review we outline the synthetic strategies that have been employed for the synthesis of mechanically interlocked oligomers and polymers, including oligo-/polymerisation of (pseudo)interlocked precursors, metal-organic self-assembly, the use of orthogonal template motifs, iterative approaches and grafting onto polymer backbones.

An azine-containing bispillar[5]arene-based multi-stimuli responsive supramolecular pseudopolyrotaxane gel for effective adsorption of rhodamine B. SOFT MATTER 2019; 15:6836-6841. Abstract
An azine-containing bispillar[5]arene was designed and synthesized by the reaction of aldehyde functionalized-pillar[5]arene and hydrazine. Then, a novel bispillar[5]arene-based supramolecular pseudopolyrotaxane has been successfully prepared via host-guest interaction. Interestingly, by taking advantage of the host-guest interactions, π-π stacking interactions and hydrogen bonding interactions, the multi-stimuli-responsive gel-sol phase transitions of such a supramolecular pseudopolyrotaxane gel were successfully realized under different stimuli, such as acid, temperature, concentration, and competitive guests. Moreover, this supramolecular system could effectively adsorb dye molecule rhodamine B. It is worth noting that this supramolecular pseudopolyrotaxane gel prepared in cyclohexanol solution (BP5·G·C) could be used as an adsorbent material for adsorbing rhodamine B with adsorption efficiency of 98.4%. Meanwhile, the adsorption efficiency was 97.6% for supramolecular pseudopolyrotaxane gel prepared in DMSO-H2O (v : v, 8 : 2) binary solution (BP5·G·D), also indicating the superior adsorption effect of BP5·G·D toward the dye molecule rhodamine B.

Abstract
The synthesis of conjugates of perylene diimide (PDI) and naphthalene diimide (NDI) modified with two benzo-21-crown-7 ethers (B21C7) are herein described. Their self-assembly behavior in various solvents was investigated particularly in aqueous medium, due to the recently discovered hydrophilic properties of B21C7 crown macrocycle. An unexpected fluorescence quenching phenomenon was observed in the PDI-B21C7 macrocycle conjugate in chloroform. The detailed UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectra of these PDI/NDI derivatives in different solvents as well as their morphologies were investigated.

Abstract
A new type of dynamic covalent macrocycle with self-promoted supramolecular gelation behavior is developed. Under oxidative conditions, the dithiol compound containing a diamide alkyl linker with an odd number (7) of carbon chain and an appended crown ether shows a remarkable gelation ability in acetonitrile, without any template molecules. Due to the existence of crown ethers and disulfide bonds, the obtained gel shows a multiple stimuli-responsiveness behavior. The mechanical properties and reversibility of the gel are investigated. Computational modeling suggests that the peripheral chain for diamide hydrogen bonding is responsible for the gelation process.

Abstract
Two kinds of fluorescent BMP32C10-based cryptands 1 and 2 have been developed. Cryptand 1 contains a binaphthol group, while cryptand 2 bears a coumarin group in their third arms. Based on this design, novel self-assemblies constructed from cryptand 1 or 2 and basic N-heteroaromatic guests 3-6 were successfully obtained. Moreover, the threading/dethreading processes of the host-guest complexes could be well switched by the alternate addition of acid/base, and accompanied by concurrent changes in fluorescence.

Abstract
A new approach to the synthesis of asymmetrical cyclic compounds using a stilbene scaffold has been developed. The use of boron trifluoride diethyl etherate as the catalyst, both with and without paraformaldehyde, allows us to obtain new substituted dioxanes, oxanes, cyclic compounds or dimer. The analysis of products was run using experimental and theoretical methods. A new approach to the synthesis of asymmetrical cyclic compounds using a stilbene scaffold has been developed.![]()

Abstract
Based on the selective recognition of the polyethylene (PE) block of polyethylene-block-poly(ethylene glycol) (PE-b-PEG) by 1,4-diethoxypillar[5]arene (DEP5A), two novel thermo and competitive guest (1,4-dibromobutane or hexanedinitrile) responsive polypseudorotaxanes (PPRs) have been successfully constructed. The formation of PPRs both in solution and in the solid state was demonstrated by (1)H NMR, 2D NOESY, and WAXD analyses. TGA data illustrate that PPRs exhibit higher thermal stability than their precursor diblock copolymers. Moreover, intriguing porous disk-like aggregates are produced by electrospraying of PPRs in CHCl3 and the self-assembled structures of PPRs are totally changed by the addition of 1,4-dibromobutane or hexanedinitrile, demonstrating their competitive guest stimuli-responsiveness.

Abstract
A dual-responsive supra-amphiphile was firstly constructed based on a water-soluble pillar[7]arene and a naphthalene diimide-containing guest with a long alkyl chain and a trimethylammonium group. The morphology of the self-assembly formed from this supra-amphiphile could be adjusted by changing the solution pH or adding α-cyclodextrin.

Abstract
A supramolecular polymer gel was prepared from self-assembly of a heteroditopic A–B monomer based on benzo[18]crown-6. Such a gel shows interesting gel–sol transitions in response to dual-stimuli owing to the dynamically reversible complexation between benzo[18]crown-6 and primary alkylammonium salt moieties.

Abstract
A muscle-like metallo-supramolecular polymer based on a solvent-driven [c2]daisy chain has been prepared from an amino-modified pillar[5]arene. The integration of terpyridine moieties on both ends of the [c2]daisy chain and the stiff architecture of pillar[5]arene units facilitated the efficient formation of the metallo-supramolecular polymer.
