Abstract
The rapid synthesis of hydrogen bond templated handcuff rotaxanes is described. The isolated rotaxanes were characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopies and high resolution mass spectrometry. This report represents a rare demonstration of preparing (2)handcuff [2]rotaxanes by covalently linking separate axles threaded through the rings of a bis-macrocycle by use of the copper catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction.

Abstract
The application of Monte Carlo simulation and resampling techniques to analyse possible binding stoichiometries in NMR titration experiments is presented. Four simulated NMR titration experiments having complex species with 1:1, 2:1 and 1:2 stoichiometries were each analysed using a 1:1, 2:1/1:1, 1:1/1:2 and a 2:1/1:1/1:2 model as implemented in SupraFit. Each best-fit model was inspected using Monte Carlo simulation (MC), Cross Validation (CV) and a new protocol termed Reduction Analysis (RA). The results of the statistical post-processes were used to calculate characteristic descriptors that are the base of the judgment for both, the models and individual stability constants. The results indicate promising approaches to correctly identify 1:1, 2:1/1:1 and 1:1/1:2 models, however with some limitations in case of the 2:1/1:1/1:2 model. All simulations and post-processing protocols were performed with the newly presented SupraFit.

Abstract
The field of mechanically interlocked molecules that employ a handcuff component are reviewed. The variety of rotaxane and catenane structures that use the handcuff motif to interlock different components are discussed and a new nomenclature, distilling diverse terminologies to a single approach, is proposed. By unifying the interpretation of this class of molecules we identify new opportunities for employing this structural unit for new architectures. Mechanically interlocked molecules that employ a handcuff component provide a pathway to highly unusual structures, a new nomenclature is proposed which helps to identify opportunities for employing this structural unit for new architectures.![]()

Abstract
During the past few decades, the construction of various kinds of platinum-acetylide complexes has attracted considerable attention, because of their wide applications in photovoltaic cells, non-linear optics, and bio-imaging materials. Among these platinum-acetylide complexes, the linear neutral platinum-acetylide complexes, due to their attractive properties, such as well-defined linear geometry, synthetic accessibility, and intriguing photoproperties, have emerged as a rising star in this field. In this personal account, we will discuss how we entered the field of linear neutral platinum-acetylide chemistry and what we found in this field. The preparation of various types of linear neutral platinum-acetylide complexes and their applications in the areas of micro/nanostructure materials, complicated topologies, and dye-sensitized solar cells will be summarized in this account.

Abstract
Coordination-driven self-assembly of differently shaped di- to hexavalent crown-ether host molecules is described. A series of [21]crown-7- and [24]crown-8-substituted bipyridine and terpyridine ligands was synthetized in a "toolbox" approach. Subsequent coordination to 3d transition metal and ruthenium(II) ions provides an easy and fast access to host assemblies with variable valency and pre-defined orientations of the crown-ether moieties. Preliminary isothermal calorimetry (ITC) titrations provided promising results, which indicated the host complexes under study to be suitable for the future investigation of multivalent and cooperative binding. The hosts described herein will also be suitable for the construction of various multiply threaded mechanically interlocked molecules.

Abstract
Interfaces provide the structural basis for function as, for example, encountered in nature in the membrane-embedded photosystem or in technology in solar cells. Synthetic functional multilayers of molecules cooperating in a coupled manner can be fabricated on surfaces through layer-by-layer self-assembly. Ordered arrays of stimulus-responsive rotaxanes undergoing well-controlled axle shuttling are excellent candidates for coupled mechanical motion. Such stimulus-responsive surfaces may help integrate synthetic molecular machines in larger systems exhibiting even macroscopic effects or generating mechanical work from chemical energy through cooperative action. The present work demonstrates the successful deposition of ordered mono- and multilayers of chemically switchable rotaxanes on gold surfaces. Rotaxane mono- and multilayers are shown to reversibly switch in a coupled manner between two ordered states as revealed by linear dichroism effects in angle-resolved NEXAFS spectra. Such a concerted switching process is observed only when the surfaces are well packed, while less densely packed surfaces lacking lateral order do not exhibit such effects.
