Abstract
Lead contamination in drinking and natural water has reached alarming concentrations, thus necessitating the development of accurate and rapid determination systems for Pb(II) in aqueous systems. Two hyphenated flow injection-solid phase extraction- FAAS (FI-SPE-FAAS) systems using oxidized and m-phenylenediamine functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes for Pb(II) preconcentration from industrially contaminated real water samples have been proposed. The chemical and hydrodynamic parameters affecting Pb(II) sorption/desorption were optimized. The effect of common interfering ions in water was also studied. Different figures of merit such as preconcentration factor (> 70), detection limit (≤ 1.5 µg L-1), and relative standard deviation (≤ 1.3%) were achieved at the preconcentration time of 120 s for both the preconcentration systems. The method was applied to industrially contaminated real water samples and the spike recovery tests were carried out using standard Pb(II) solution traceable to NIST. The proposed method was validated using standard reference material 1640a supplied by NIST Gaithersburg, MD, USA.

Abstract
Two highly sensitive and selective methods based on fluorescence (FL) and chemiluminescence (CL) emissions of 8-mercaptoquinoline-capped CdS quantum dots (MCQ-CdS QDs) were described for the determination of copper (II) after it’s preconcentration. High fluorescent CdS QDs, synthesized in an aqueous medium, generated a relatively intense CL emission in the presence of potassium permanganate as an oxidant. Furthermore, low quantities of copper (II) ions showed a remarkable quenching effect on both of the CL and FL emissions of MCQ-CdS QDs. Based on this effect, two selective and simple methods were established for Cu2+, and the detection limits of 0.28 and 0.026 ng mL−1 were obtained for the FL and CL methods, respectively. Also, due to the high propensity of MCQ to Cu2+, good selectivity was obtained and no sensible interfering effects from other metal ions were observed. To more sensitize the developed method, an efficient preconcentration process was designed based on the high-yield ultrasound-assisted temperature-controlled ionic liquid dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (UA-TIL-DLLME) method. Under the optimum conditions, the extracted Cu2+ showed a suppressing effect on the FL and CL emissions of CdS QDs proportional to its initial concentration over the ranges of 0.008–1.4 and 0.001–1.4 ng mL−1, respectively. The limits of detection of 3.7 and 0.37 pg mL−1, respectively, were also achieved. The established methods showed great features and were satisfactorily applied to the monitoring of ultratrace Cu2+ in some different environmental samples.

Analysis of Some Trace Metals in Fish Species after Preconcentration with Congo Red on Amberlite XAD-7 Resin by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. J CHEM-NY 2016. Abstract
A new procedure for separation and preconcentration of trace amounts of Cu(II), Ni(II), Fe(III), Zn(II), Cr(III), Cd(II), and Pb(II) in fish samples was proposed. The procedure is based on the adsorption of these metal ions on the column of Amberlite XAD-7 as congo red complexes prior to their determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). Several factors that can affect the sorption and elution efficiency of the metal ions were investigated and optimized. The sorption was quantitative in the pH range of 6.0–9.0 for Cu(II) and Ni(II), 5.5–8.0 for Fe(III), 6.0–8.5 for Zn(II) and Cd(II), and 7.0–8.5 for Cr(III) and Pb(II). The optimum pH for simultaneous retention was 7.5. The sorption capacity of the resin was found to be 0.89, 0.72, 0.82, 0.61, 0.53, 0.84, and 0.78 mg/g for Cu(II), Ni(II), Fe(III), Zn(II), Cr(III), Cd(II), and Pb(II), respectively. The precision of the method was evaluated as the relative standard deviation obtained by analyzing a series of six replicates and below 6% for all seven elements. The validation of the method was performed by the analysis of certified reference materials. The proposed method was successfully applied to separation/preconcentration and determination of these metals in fish samples.

Abstract
We describe a novel solid phase sorbent that was synthesized by coupling graphene oxide (GO) to ethylenediamine (EDA). This nanomaterial (referred to as GO-EDA) is capable of adsorbing the ions of iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc and lead. The ethylenediamine-modified graphene oxide was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The analytical procedure relies on (a) sorption of metal ions on GO-EDA dispersed in aqueous samples; (b) filtering, and (c) direct submission of the filter paper to energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. This kind of dispersive micro-solid phase extraction was optimized with respect to pH values, concentration of GO-EDA, contact time, and the effects of interfering ions and humic acid on recovery of determined elements. Under optimized conditions, the recoveries of spiked samples range from 90 to 98 %. The detection limits are 0.07, 0.10, 0.07, 0.08, 0.06 and 0.10 ng mL-1 for Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pb(II), respectively. The method has a relative standard deviation of <6 %, and its accuracy was verified by analysis of two standard reference materials [LGC6016 (estuarine water) and BCR-610 (groundwater)]. It was successfully applied to the determination of trace amounts of these metal ions in water samples. Graphical AbstractGraphene oxide was coupled to ethylenediamine in order to obtain an effective sorbent (GO-EDA) for preconcentration of Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pb(II) from environmental water samples.
