Abstract
In order to protect the copper against corrosion, a novel corrosion inhibitor known as diphenyl ((2-aminoethyl) amino) (4-methoxyphenyl) methyl) phosphonate (DAMP) was developed. Acid solutions of HCl and H2SO4 were the aggressive solutions employed in this study. Analysis using the FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 31P-NMR, 13C-NMR and BET confirmed that the DAMP was successfully synthesized. The anti-corrosion capabilities of DAMP are evaluated using a combination of chemical, electrochemical and quantum studies. The DAMP has been found to be crucial in preventing the corrosion of copper in both HCl and H2SO4 acid. This was obviously implied by the observation that the corrosion rate of copper in acid solutions decreased when DAMP was added. It is significant to note that 180 ppm produced the highest levels of inhibiting efficiency (96.6% for HCl and 95.2% for H2SO4). The tendency of DAMP to adsorb on the surface of copper through its hetero-atoms (O, N, and P) is the main factor for the anti-corrosion capabilities of DAMP. Results from SEM/EDX tests supported this. The actual adsorption takes place via various active centers, physical and chemical mechanisms that are coordinated with the estimated quantum parameters. Additionally, the adsorption of DAMP adheres to the Langmuir isotherm.

Abstract
Many research studies have been conducted on the corrosion inhibition performance of imidazole in acidic environments such as in the piping of a petrochemical plant. However, there has been no study on the effect of imidazole in alkaline conditions such as a local district water heating environment. Therefore, in this study, the effect of imidazole as a corrosion inhibitor on carbon steel weldment was investigated in alkaline district heating water. Inhibition efficiency and electrochemical properties were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. As the concentration of imidazole increased up to 500 ppm, inhibition efficiency increased up to 91.7%. At 1000 ppm, inhibition efficiency decreased. Atomic force microscopy showed that surface coverage of imidazole at 1000 ppm is lower than that of imidazole at 500 ppm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that with 500 ppm of imidazole, the amount of pyrrole type interaction is 4.8 times larger than pyridine type interaction. At 1000 ppm of imidazole, the amount of pyridine type interaction is 3.49 times larger than pyrrole type interaction. Depending on the concentration of imidazole, the ratio of interaction between carbon steel and imidazole affected inhibition efficiency.

Abstract
This paper presents a novel physical⁻mathematical model to describe the relationship between the crystallographic texture and corrosion behavior of American petroleum institute (API) 5L steels. Symmetric spherical harmonic functions were used to estimate the material's corrosion resistance from crystallographic texture measurements. The predictions of the average corrosion resistance index made from the crystallographic texture were in good agreement with those obtained from potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements for the studied steels. This agreement validates the capacity of this model and opens the possibility of applying it as a novel criterion for materials selection and design stages to combat corrosion problems.

Abstract
Environmentally friendly three chitosan Schiff bases (CSBs) were first time synthesized under microwave irradiation by the reaction of chitosan and aldehydes [benzaldehyde (CSB-1), 4-(dimethylamino)benzaldehyde (CSB-2), and 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (CSB-3)] and characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy. The corrosion inhibition performance of the synthesized inhibitors was studied by the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization (PDP). The results show that all the Schiff bases (CSBs) act as effective corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in 1 M HCl solution. Among the synthesized Schiff bases, CSB-3 exhibited the maximum inhibition efficiency of 90.65% at a very low concentration of 50 ppm. The EIS results showed that the CSBs inhibit corrosion by the adsorption mechanism. The PDP results show that all the three Schiff bases are mixed-type inhibitors. The formation of inhibitor films on the mild steel surface was supported by scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray analysis and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy methods. The adsorption of CSBs on the mild steel surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The theoretical studies via density functional theory and molecular dynamics simulation corroborated the experimental results.

Abstract
The initial corrosion process of copper and the corrosion resistance mechanism of Benzotriazole under chloride-containing thin electrolyte layer (TEL) was investigated. After theoretical calculation and experimental characterization, the forming process of [Cu(I)BTA]n film was chemically adsorbed on copper surface by Cu-N bond tightly; corrosion rate increased as TEL thickness decreased. Whilst, energy distribution plot of electrochemical noise provided the validity of corrosion type, and the purported corrosion energy (Ec) deduced from electrochemical noise was approximately proportion to corrosion rate (1/Rct) with and without the anticorrosion film, which denoted the feasibility to determine corrosion rate by nondestructive on-line monitoring electrochemical noise progress.
