Abstract
This study aims to investigate the influence of copper(II) ions as a cofactor on the electrochemical performance of a biocomposite consisting of a mini protein mimicking uricase (mp20) and zeolitic immidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) for the detection of uric acid. A central composite design (CCD) was utilized to optimize the independent investigation, including pH, deposition potential, and deposition time, while the current response resulting from the electrocatalytic oxidation of uric acid was used as the response. The statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed a good correlation between the experimental and predicted data, with a residual standard error percentage (RSE%) of less than 2% for predicting optimal conditions. The synergistic effect of the nanoporous ZIF-8 host, Cu(II)-activated mp20, and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) layer resulted in a highly sensitive biosensor with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.21 μM and a reproducibility of the response (RSD = 0.63%). The Cu(II)-activated mp20@ZIF-8/rGO/SPCE was highly selective in the presence of common interferents, and the fabricated layer exhibited remarkable stability with signal changes below 4.15% after 60 days. The biosensor's reliable performance was confirmed through real sample analyses of human serum and urine, with comparable recovery values to conventional HPLC.

Optimization of green and environmentally-benign synthesis of isoamyl acetate in the presence of ball-milled seashells by response surface methodology. Sci Rep 2023; 13:2803. [PMID: 36797437 PMCID: PMC9935880 DOI: 10.1038/s41598-023-29568-y] [Citation(s) in RCA: 3] [Impact Index Per Article: 3.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 09/24/2022] [Accepted: 02/07/2023] [Indexed: 02/18/2023] Open
Abstract
Ball-milled seashells, as a nano-biocomposite catalyst and natural source of CaCO3 in its aragonite microcrystalline form with fixed CO2, was optimized for the synthesis of isoamyl acetate (3-methylbutyl ethanoate) by response surface methodology with a five-level three-factor rotatable circumscribed central composite design. The seashells nano-biocomposite has proved to be an excellent heterogeneous multifunctional catalyst for the green and environmentally-benign synthesis of isoamyl acetate from acetic acid and isoamyl alcohol under solvent-free conditions. A high yield of 91% was obtained under the following optimal conditions: molar ratio of alcohol: acetic acid (1:3.7), catalyst loading (15.7 mg), the reaction temperature (98 °C), and the reaction time (219 min). The outstanding advantages of this protocol are the use of an inexpensive, naturally occurring and easily prepared nano-biocomposite material having appropriate thermal stability and without any modifications using hazardous reagents, lower catalyst loading and reaction temperature, no use of corrosive Bronsted acids as well as toxic azeotropic solvents or water adsorbents, and simplicity of the procedure.

Abstract
Under gas-liquid microextraction (GLME) operating conditions (extraction temperature 270 °C, extraction time 7 min, condensation temperature -2 °C, and carrier nitrogen gas speed 2.5 mL/min), ice cream samples, as a representative food, were pre-treated. The volatile aroma components of each sample was qualitatively analysed using GC-MS. The principal component analysis was conducted to classify the functional groups, which showed that alcohols, acids, esters, ketones, and aldehydes were the main compounds responsible for the aroma of ice cream. It was found that furan-3-carboxaldehyde, 3-furanmethanol, 2(5H)-furanone, 5-methylfuranal, 2,5-diformylfuran, 3-hydroxy-2-methyl-4-pyrone, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, ethyl maltol, and glycerol were routinely used flavour ingredients in ice cream.
