Nitroso-azomethine(ene) reaction enabled annulations of nitrosoarenes, azomethines and alkenes

An unprecedented example of a nitroso-azomethine(ene) reaction is reported. Nitroso-azomethine(ene) reaction-mediated unprecedented annulation of nitrosoarenes, azomethines, and alkenes to furnish arylquinolines via arene functionalization of nitrosoarene has been developed. DFT studies provided mechanistic insights into the newly developed nitroso-azomethine(ene) reaction.

Synthesis of Tunable Fluorescent Imidazole-Fused Heterocycle Dimers

A short, concise, and one-pot synthesis of imidazo-fused heterocycle dimers with tunable fluorescent properties has been developed. By the first time use of glyoxal dimethyl acetal in the Groebke–Blackburn–Bienaymé (GBB) three-component reaction (3CR), the innovation features a new series of fluorescence-tunable imidazo-fused heterocycle dimers exhibiting a broad substrate scope with good yields. Luminescence studies demonstrate that these GBB-dimers possess color-tunable properties, and their emission colors can be successively changed from blue to green and yellow by easy substituent control.

K2S2O8-promoted rearrangement of nitrones for the synthesis of benzo[d]oxazoles

An efficient route for the synthesis of valuable benzoxazoles has been developed through self-oxidative cyclization with N–O bond cleavage.

Lewis acid catalyzed reactivity switch: pseudo three-component annulation of nitrosoarenes and (epoxy)styrenes

A Lewis acid catalyzed annulation reaction via arene functionalization of nitrosoarenes and C-C cleavage of (epoxy)styrene to provide arylquinolines is reported. The Lewis acid catalyst altered the annulation pattern providing arylquinolines instead of oxazolidines. The reaction with styrene resulted in a mixture of 2,4-diarylquinoline and 4-arylquinoline, while only 3-arylquinoline was formed from the reaction of epoxystyrene.

Acid mediated coupling of aliphatic amines and nitrosoarenes to indoles

Traditionally, amines react with nitrosoarenes to provide the corresponding imines or azo compounds. Herein, we report an acid mediated annulation reaction of aliphatic amines and nitrosoarenes to provide indole derivatives. The elusive direct annulation of aliphatic amines and nitrosoarenes via simultaneous C-C and C-N bond formation was achieved under metal free conditions. This conceptually novel method for indole synthesis does not require pre-functionalization steps for the new C-C and C-N bond formation. The method has been applied for an elegant synthesis of nor-neocryptolepine and neocryptolepine.

Radical trideuteromethylation with deuterated dimethyl sulfoxide in the synthesis of heterocycles and labelled building blocks

A selective introduction of trideuteromethyl groups for the synthesis of labelled compounds under radical reaction conditions is demonstrated.

Access to Imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines via Annulation of α-Keto Vinyl Azides and 2-Aminopyridines

A novel strategy for the synthesis of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines via efficient catalyst/metal-free annulations of α-keto vinyl azides and 2-aminopyridines is described. Several imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines were synthesized from readily available vinyl azides and 2-aminopyridines and obtained in highly pure form by simply evaporating the reaction solvent. This remarkably high yielding and atom economical protocol allows the formation of three new C-N bonds through cascade reactions and rearrangements.

Regioselective Metal-Free Cross-Coupling of Quinoline N-Oxides with Boronic Acids

A novel and operationally simple one-step C-H bond functionalization of quinoline N-oxides to 2-substituted quinolines was developed. This approach enables the regioselective functionalization under external oxidant- and metal-free conditions. The developed transformation represents the first application of the Petasis reaction in functionalization of heterocycles.

KOtBu-mediated annulation of acetonitrile with aldehyde: synthesis of substituted dihydropyridin-2(1H)-ones, pyridin-2(1H)-ones, and thiopyridin-2(1H)-ones

KO^tBu-mediated annulation of acetonitrile with aldehyde was observed in which cleavage of four C(sp³)–H bonds occurred, and total eight new bonds formed.
