Abstract
A novel Pd-catalyzed assembly of N-substituted phthalimides by merging of [4+1] cycloaddition and difluorocarbene transfer carbonylation from 2-iodo-N-phenylbenzamides and difluorocarbene precursors is disclosed. Difluorocarbene acts as a carbonyl source and simultaneously forms one C-C bond, one C-N bond and one CO bond to produce N-substituted phthalimides in high yields.

Abstract
A Pd-catalyzed selective tandem cyclization of the Ugi adduct via Buchwald-Hartwig/C-H bond functionalization reactions has been reported. This sequence offers an interesting approach for synthesizing a wide range of pyrido[1,2-a]pyrazine-3,6-dione scaffolds under mild reaction conditions in moderate to excellent yields. The scope and limitations of the protocol are discussed.

Abstract
Benzofuran and naphthofuran derivatives are synthesized from readily available phenols and naphthols. Regioselective ring openings of 2H-azirine followed by in situ aromatization using a catalytic amount of Brønsted acid have established the novelty of the methodology. The involvement of a series of 2H-azirines with a variety of phenols, 1-naphthols, and 2-naphthols showed the generality of the protocol. In-depth density functional theory calculations revealed the reaction mechanism with the energies of the intermediates and transition states of a model reaction. An alternate pathway of the mechanism has also been proposed with computer modeling.

Abstract
Donor and donor-donor carbenes are two important kinds of carbenes, which have experienced tremendous growth in the past two decades. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the recent development of donor and donor-donor carbene chemistry. The development of this chemistry offers efficient protocols to construct a wide variety of C-C and C-X bonds in organic synthesis. This review is organized based on the different types of carbene precursors, including diazo compounds, hydrazones, enynones, cycloheptatrienes and cyclopropenes. The typical transformations, the reaction mechanisms, as well as their subsequent applications in the synthesis of complex natural products and bioactive molecules are discussed. Due to the rapidly increasing interest in this area, we believe that this review will provide a timely and comprehensive discussion of recent progress in donor and donor-donor carbene chemistry.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions have been well-established as indispensable tools in modern organic synthesis. One of the major research goals in cross-coupling area is expanding the scope of the coupling partners. In the past decade, diazo compounds (or their precursors N-tosylhydrazones) have emerged as nucleophilic cross-coupling partners in C-C single bond or C═C double bond formations in transition-metal-catalyzed reactions. This type of coupling reaction involves the following general steps. First, the organometallic species is generated by various processes, including oxidative addition, transmetalation, cyclization, C-C bond cleavage, and C-H bond activation. Subsequently, the organometallic species reacts with the diazo substrate to generate metal carbene intermediate, which undergoes rapid migratory insertion to form a C-C bond. The new organometallic species generated from migratory insertion may undergo various transformations. This type of carbene-based coupling has proven to be general: various transition metals including Pd, Cu, Rh, Ni, Co, and Ir are effective catalysts; the scope of the reaction has also been extended to substrates other than diazo compounds; and various cascade processes have also been devised based on the carbene migratory insertion. This review will summarize the achievements made in this field since 2001.

Abstract
A novel strategy for the synthesis of functionalized carbocycles is defined, through the cascade carbocyclization of alkenylboronic acids with δ- or γ-cyano-N-tosylhydrazones. In the reaction, two C(sp(3))-C(sp(2)) bonds are formed on the former hydrazonic carbon generating an all-carbon quaternary stereocenter, and leading to cyclic ketones featuring an alkenyl side chain with complete diastereoselectivity. The processes are conducted under very simple experimental conditions, only in the presence of K2CO3, in 1,4-dioxane as solvent and under microwave irradiation, and have been applied for the synthesis of a wide structural variety of fused cyclopentanones and cyclohexanones. Moreover, the versatility of this methodology has been demonstrated in the structural modification of androsterone.
