Abstract
An efficient synthesis of highly fluorescent trisubstituted thiophenes was achieved via iodine-catalyzed, base-promoted annulation employing elemental sulfur as a sulfur source. The compounds exhibit excellent photophysical properties like solid-state fluorescence, high quantum yield and solvatochromism. As these thiophene derivatives have potential application in the development of optoelectronic devices, gram-scale synthesis of the desired heterocycles was demonstrated.

Abstract
We report here the design and development of a method for the single-step conversion of esters to ketones with simple reagents. The selective transformation of esters to ketones, rather than tertiary alcohols, is made possible by the use of a transient sulfinate group on the nucleophile that activates the adjacent carbon toward deprotonation to form a carbanion that adds to the ester, followed by a second deprotonation to prevent further addition. The resulting dianion undergoes spontaneous fragmentation of the SO2 group upon quenching with water to reveal the ketone product.

Abstract
AbstractReductive cleavage of aromatic and benzylic C–O bonds by chromium catalysis is reported. This deoxygenative reaction was promoted by low-cost CrCl2 precatalyst combined with poly(methyl hydrogen siloxane) as the mild reducing agent, providing a strategy in forming reduced motifs by cleavage of unactivated C–O bonds. A range of functional groups such as bromide, chloride, fluoride, hydroxyl, amino, and alkoxycarbonyl can be retained in the reduction.

Abstract
An environment-friendly synthetic protocol was developed to access polyfunctionalized bipyridines from readily available amines, chromone-3-carboxaldehydes, and pyridinylacetonitriles under catalyst- and additive-free conditions using the bio-renewable neoteric solvent dihydrolevoglucosenone (Cyrene™). In this strategy, amines served as both a mild-base promoter and a substrate. In addition, water was the only by-product of this reaction. This multi-component protocol provided highly diverse 2,3-, 3,3-, and 3,4-bipyridines in good-to-excellent yields. Operational simplicity, short reaction time, excellent atom economy, and easily obtainable substrates are among the features of this microwave-assisted synthesis. Additionally, the compounds synthesized via this method have demonstrated the ability to detect heavy metals, specifically mercury(II), copper(II), and iron (III) ions.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterisation of six new cationic iridium(iii) complexes bearing either 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridine (dtBubpy) or 5-NO2-1,10-phenanthroline along with two cyclometallated 2-phenylpyridine derivative ligands, decorated with triphenylamine groups either meta or para to the Ir-CC^N bond or para to the Ir-NC^N bond, are reported. The second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of all the compounds have been determined by the electric field induced second harmonic generation technique and show that the μβEFISH value can be tuned by the nature of the iridium coordination sphere. The dipole moment, μ, necessary to evaluate the quadratic hyperpolarizability βEFISH, was theoretically determined. The linear optical properties of the complexes are also presented and rationalised by quantum-chemical calculations. One of the prepared iridium compounds was incorporated into a polystyrene film, affording the first example of a second-order NLO active polymeric film based on a cationic organometallic complex.
