Modulation of Singlet-Triplet Gap in Atomically Precise Silver Cluster-Assembled Material

Silver cluster-based solids have garnered considerable attention owing to their tunable luminescence behavior. While surface modification has enabled the construction of stable silver clusters, controlling interactions among clusters at the molecular level has been challenging due to their tendency to aggregate. Judicious choice of stabilizing ligands becomes pivotal in crafting a desired assembly. However, detailed photophysical behavior as a function of their cluster packing remained unexplored. Here, we modulate the packing pattern of Ag12 clusters by varying the nitrogen-based ligand. CAM-1 formed through coordination of the tritopic linker molecule and NC-1 with monodentate pyridine ligand; established via non-covalent interactions. Both the assemblies show ligand-to-metal-metal charge transfer (LMMCT) based cluster-centered emission band(s). Temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectra exhibit blue shifts at higher temperatures, which is attributed to the extent of the thermal reverse population of the S1 state from the closely spaced T1 state. The difference in the energy gap (ΔEST ) dictated by their assemblies played a pivotal role in the way that Ag12 cluster assembly in CAM-1 manifests a wider ΔEST and thus requires higher temperatures for reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) than assembly of NC-1. Such assembly-defined photoluminescence properties underscore the potential toolkit to design new cluster- assemblies with tailored optoelectronic properties.

Photoluminescence Properties of a Chiral One-Dimensional Silver Chalcogenolate Chain

Atom-precise metal nanoclusters, which contain a few tens to hundreds of atoms, have drawn significant interest due to their interesting physicochemical properties. Structural analysis reveals a fundamental architecture characterized by a central core or kernel linked to a staple motif with metal-ligand bonding playing a pivotal role. Ligands not only protect the surface but also exert a significant influence in determining the overall assembly of the larger superstructures. The assemblies of nanoclusters are driven by weak interaction between the ligand molecules; it also depends on the ligand type and functional group present. Here, we report an achiral ligand and Ag(I)···Ag(I) interaction-driven spontaneous resolution of silver-thiolate structure, [Ag18(C6H11S)12(CF3COO)6(DMA)2], where silver atoms and cyclohexanethiolate are connected to form a one-dimensional chain with helicity. Notably, silver atoms adopt different types of coordination modes and geometries. The photoluminescence properties of the one-dimensional (1D) chain structure were investigated, and it was found to exhibit excitation-dependent emission properties attributed to hydrogen-bonding interactions. Experimental and theoretical investigations corroborate the presence of triplet-emitting ligand-to-metal charge-transfer transitions.

Silver(I) Complexes Based on Oxadiazole-Functionalized α-Aminophosphonate: Synthesis, Structural Study, and Biological Activities

Two silver(I) complexes, bis{diethyl[(5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl-κN3:κN4-amino) (4-trifluoromethylphenyl)methyl]phosphonate-(tetrafluoroborato-κF)}-di-silver(I) and tetrakis-{diethyl[(5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl-κN3-amino)(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)methyl]phosphonate} silver(I) tetrafluoroborate, were prepared starting from the diethyl[(5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl-amino)(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)methyl]phosphonate (1) ligand and AgBF4 salt in Ag/ligand ratios of 1/1 and 1/4, respectively. The structure, stoichiometry, and geometry of the silver complexes were fully characterized by elemental analyses, infrared, single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, multinuclear NMR, and mass spectroscopies. The binuclear complex ([Ag2(1)2(BF4)2]; 2) crystallizes in the monoclinic asymmetric space group P21/c and contains two silver atoms adopting a {AgN2F} planar trigonal geometry, which are simultaneously bridged by two oxadiazole rings of two ligands, while the mononuclear complex ([Ag(1)4]BF4; 3) crystallizes in the non-usual cubic space group Fd-3c in which the silver atom binds to four distinct electronically enriched nitrogen atoms of the oxadiazole ring, in a slightly distorted {AgN4} tetrahedral geometry. The α-aminophosphonate and the monomeric silver complex were evaluated in vitro against MCF-7 and PANC-1 cell lines. The silver complex is promising as a drug candidate for breast cancer and the pancreatic duct with half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of 8.3 ± 1.0 and 14.4 ± 0.6 μM, respectively. Additionally, the interactions of the ligand and the mononuclear complex with Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-2 and DNA were evaluated by molecular docking methods.

Single-Component White Light Emission from a Metal-Coordinated Cyclotriveratrylene-Based Coordination Polymer

A coordination polymer, namely, [Cd₃L(H₂O)₃]·DMA·4H₂O (1) (DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide), was prepared by the solvothermal reaction of cyclotriveratrylene-based ligand 5,6,12,13,19,20-hexacarboxy-methoxy-cyclotriveratrylene (H₆L) and Cd(NO₃)₂·4H₂O. In 1, a two-dimensional structure was constructed by the connection of hexanuclear Cd-O clusters and L^6- anions. Photoluminescence measurements indicated that 1 displayed tunable photoluminescence through the variation of the excitation wavelength. Significantly, the white light emission of 1 can be observed with a broad excitation wavelength range from 320 to 385 nm. When 1 is excited by 385 nm light, its chromatic coordinate is (0.29, 0.34), which is located very close to the pure white light region (0.33, 0.33). Meanwhile, the color temperature (CCT) is 7994 K, which corresponds well to "cold" white light.

A pair of 2D chiral Ag(i) enantiomers with dual chiral elements: syntheses, structures, and photoluminescent and chiroptical properties

In this work, two new enantiopure bis-monodentate N-donor chiral ligands, namely (-)/(+)-2-(4'-pyridyl)-4,5-pinene-pyridine (L R /L S ), have been designed and synthesized. Using L R and L S as bridging ligands to react with AgClO4, a pair of novel 2D chiral Ag(i) enantiomers formulated as [Ag2(L R )2(ClO4)2] n (R-1) and [Ag2(L S )2(ClO4)2] n (S-1) were isolated and characterized. In R-1 and S-1, each Ag(i) ion is bonded by two N atoms from two different chiral L R or L S ligands, leading to the formation of 1D right- or left-handed -L-Ag(i)-L- helical chains. Moreover, two adjacent helical chains are further doubly linked by two monodentate ClO4 - anions through weak Ag-O contacts to form 2D network structures, in which dual chiral elements, i.e., center chirality and helical chirality coexist. Interestingly, each free ligand L R /L S and R-1/S-1 enantiomers show very different ECD spectra in the solid state and in solution, which are correlated to the intermolecular interactions and molecular structures in each state, respectively. Notably, as a representative, R-1 exhibits intense room temperature photoluminescence both in the solid state and in solution with different emission features and mechanisms, while it also shows more intense emission than that of free ligand L R . In particular, R-1 and S-1 represent the first examples of 2D Ag(i) chiral coordination polymers (CCPs) supported by ClO4 - anions, possessing dual chiral elements.
