Linear, Planar, Orbicular, and Macrocyclic Multinuclear Zinc (Meth)acrylate Complexes

Zinc carboxylate complexes are widely utilized as artificial models of metalloenzymes and as secondary building units of PCPs/MOFs. However, the relationship between the structure of the monodentate carboxylato ligand and the molecular arrangement of multinuclear zinc carboxylate complexes is not fully understood because of the coordination flexibility of the Zn ion and carboxylato ligands. Herein, we report the structural analysis of a series of complexes derived from zinc (meth)acrylate which has a linear infinite chain structure. The molecular structure of μ4-oxido-bridged tetranuclear complexes [Zn4(μ4-O)(OCOR)6] revealed a distorted Zn4O core. Crystallization of zinc acrylate under aqueous conditions afforded a μ3-hydroxido-containing pentanuclear complex [Zn5(μ3-OH)2(OCOR)8] as the repeating unit of an infinite sheet-like structure in the solid state. It was also obtained by the hydrolysis of the μ4-oxido-bridged tetranuclear complex. In sharp contrast, the methacrylate analog retained the methacrylato ligands under aqueous crystallization conditions to form a macrocyclic dodecanuclear complex with methacrylato as the sole ligand.

Recent developments in MOF and MOF based composite as potential adsorbents for removal of aqueous environmental contaminants

With the growth of globalization which has been the primary cause of water pollution, it is utmost necessary for us living being to have access to clean water for the purpose of drinking, washing and various other useful applications. With the purpose of future security and to restore our ecological balance, it is essential to give much significance towards the removal of unwanted toxic contaminants from our water resources. In this regard adsorptive removal of toxic pollutants from wastewater with porous adsorbent is regarded as one of the most promising way for water decontamination process. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) comprising of uniformly arranged pores, abundant active sites and containing an easily tunable structure has aroused as a promising material for adsorbent to remove the unwanted contaminants from water sources. The adsorption of pollutants by the different MOFs surface are driven by various interactions including π-π, acid-base, electrostatic and H-bonding etc. On the other hand, the removal of various contaminants by MOFs is influenced by various factors including pH, temperature and initial concentration. In this review we will specifically discuss the adsorptive removal of different organic and inorganic pollutants present in our water systems with the use of MOFs as adsorbent along with the various factors and interaction mechanism manipulating the adsorption behaviour.

Engineered Bifunctional Luminescent Pillared-Layer Frameworks for Adsorption of CO2 and Sensitive Detection of Nitrobenzene in Aqueous Media

Through a dual-ligand synthetic approach, five isoreticular primitive cubic (pcu)-type pillared-layer metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), [Zn₂ (dicarboxylate)₂ (NI-bpy-44)]⋅x DMF⋅y H₂ O, in which dicarboxylate=1,4-bdc (1), Br-1,4-bdc (2), NH₂ -1,4-bdc (3), 2,6-ndc (4), and bpdc (5), have been engineered. MOFs 1-5 feature twofold degrees of interpenetration and have open pores of 27.0, 33.6, 36.8, 52.5, and 62.1 %, respectively. Nitrogen adsorption isotherms of activated MOFs 1'-5' at 77 K all displayed type I adsorption behavior, suggesting their microporous nature. Although 1' and 3'-5' exhibited type I adsorption isotherms of CO₂ at 195 K, MOF 2' showed a two-step gate-opening sorption isotherm of CO₂ . Furthermore, MOF 3' also had a significant influence of amine functions on CO₂ uptake at high temperature due to the CO₂ -framework interactions. MOFs 1-5 revealed solvent-dependent fluorescence properties; their strong blue-light emissions in aqueous suspensions were efficiently quenched by trace amounts of nitrobenzene (NB), with limits of detection of 4.54, 5.73, 1.88, 2.30, and 2.26 μm, respectively, and Stern-Volmer quenching constants (K_sv ) of 2.93×10³ , 1.79×10³ , 3.78×10³ , 4.04×10³ , and 3.21×10³  m^-1 , respectively. Of particular note, the NB-included framework, NB@3, provided direct evidence of the binding sites, which showed strong host-guest π-π and hydrogen-bonding interactions beneficial for donor-acceptor electron transfer and resulting in fluorescence quenching.

Synthesis, structure, and photoluminescence properties of coordination polymers of 4,4′,4′′,4′′′-tetrakiscarboxyphenylsilane and 3,5-bis(1′,2′,4′-triazol-1′-yl)pyridine

Three coordination polymers based on 4,4′,4′′,4′′′-tetrakiscarboxyphenylsilane and 3,5-bis(1′,2′,4′-triazol-1′-yl)pyridine ligands were synthesized. Luminescence studies revealed that [Cd₃(Htcps)₂(btap)(H₂O)₆] exhibits a luminescence quenching response towards Fe³⁺ and Cu²⁺.

Theoretical and experimental studies on three water-stable, isostructural, paddlewheel based semiconducting metal–organic frameworks

Theoretical and experimental studies were carried out on three isostructural, water stable, visible light absorbing MOFs, [M₂(TCS)(BPY)] (M = Co(1), Ni(2) and Cu(3); H₄TCS = tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl) silane, BPY = 4,4′-bipyridine).
