Abstract
The model precatalyst sp3- and sp2-N dinitrogen-coordinated zinc-heteroimidazole has been used as an efficient catalyst for the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters. Subsequent to our exceptional active 5,6,7-trihydroquinolin-8-amine-zinc catalysts for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone, various pyridine-fused cycloalkanones (ring size from five to eight) are developed for the correspondent fused amine-pyridine derivatives and their zinc-heteroimidazole chloride complexes Zn1-Zn8 (LZnCl2) bearing N-diphenylphosphinoethyl pendants. Activated with two equivalents of LiN(SiMe3)2, the title zinc complexes efficiently promote the ROP of L-lactide (L-LA) in situ; among them, Zn4/2Li(NSiMe3)2 catalyzed 500 equivalent L-LA at 80 °C with 92% conversion in 5 min (TOF: 5520 h-1). Under the same conditions, the catalytic efficiency for the ROP of rac-LA by Zn1-Zn8/2Li(NSiMe3)2 was slightly lower than that for L-LA (highest TOF: 4440 h-1). In both cases, cyclooctyl-fused pyridyl-zinc complexes exhibited higher activity than others, while the cycloheptyl-fused zinc complexes showed the lowest activity. The microstructure analysis of the polymers showed they possessed a linear structure capped with CH3O as major and cyclic structure as minor. In this work, all the ligands and zinc complexes were well characterized by 1H/13C/31P NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis.

Abstract
This review describes recent advances in the synthesis of homopolymers of lactide and related cyclic esters via ring-opening polymerization (ROP) in the presence of metal complexes based on group 1, 2, 4, 12, 13 and 14 metals. Particular attention is paid to the influence of the initiator structure on the properties of the obtaining homo- and copolymers. Also, a separate chapter is devoted to the study of metal complexes in the synthesis of copolymers of lactide and lactones. This review highlights the efforts made over the last ten years or so, and shows how main-group metals have received increasing attention in the field of the polymerization of lactide and related cyclic esters.

Abstract
Synthesis of a new mononuclear magnesium complex with a bulky bis(alkoxide) ligand environment and its reactivity in ring-opening polymerization (ROP) and ring-opening copolymerization (ROCOP) are reported. Reaction of n-butyl-sec-butylmagnesium with two equivalents of HOR (HOR = di-tert-butylphenylmethanol, HOCtBu2Ph) formed Mg(OR)2(THF)2. The reaction proceeded via the Mg(OR)(sec-Bu)(THF)2 intermediate that was independently synthesized by treating n-butyl-sec-butylmagnesium with one equivalent of HOR. Mg(OR)2(THF)2 led to active albeit not well-controlled ROP of rac-lactide. In contrast, well-controlled ROCOP of epoxides with cyclic anhydrides was observed, including efficient and alternating copolymerization of phthalic anhydride with cyclohexene oxide as well as rare copolymerization of phthalic anhydride with limonene oxide and terpolymerization of phthalic anhydride with both cyclohexene oxide and limonene oxide. In addition, novel copolymerization of dihydrocoumarin with limonene oxide is described.

Abstract
This work was aimed to obtain and characterize the well-defined biocomposites based on β-tricalcium diphosphate(V) (β-TCP) co-doped with Ce3+ and Pr3+ ions modified by poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) with precise tailored chain length and different phosphate to polymer ratio. The composites as well as β-tricalcium diphosphate(V) were spectroscopically characterized using emission spectroscopy and luminescence kinetics. Morphological and structural properties were studied using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The self-assembled poly(l-lactide) in a shape of rose flower has been successfully polymerized on the surface of the β-tricalcium diphosphate(V) nanocrystals. The studied materials were evaluated in vitro including cytotoxicity (MTT assay) and hemolysis tests. The obtained results suggested that the studied materials may find potential application in tissue engineering.

Abstract
A series of mononuclear salen-sodium anions, as the first examples, were synthesized with tetra-alkyl ammonium as a counterpart cation. These complexes are efficient catalysts for the isoselective ring-opening polymerization of rac-lactide; the molecular weights of polymers are under control and molecular weight distributions are narrow when five equivalents of BnOH is used as an initiator. The best isoselectivity value of Pm = 0.82 was achieved at -70 °C. The experimental results together with a density functional theory calculation show that a ligand-assisted activated monomer mechanism is more reasonable than an activated monomer mechanism for this system.

Abstract
The reaction of MgBu2 and ZnEt2 or Zn{N[Si(CH3)3]2}2 with a tridentate monoanionic pyrrolylpyridiylimino [N-,N,N] proligand gave homoleptic species, as exclusive products, in high yields. The complexes were characterized in solution by 1D and 2D NMR analysis and by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The new homoleptic complexes were tested as initiators in the polymerization of ε-caprolactone and lactide in the presence of an exogenous alcohol. For both complexes, the polymerizations proceed via an "activated monomer" mechanism that, in the case of the magnesium complex, was correlated with the coordinative flexibility of the ligands, resulting in extremely high productivities under mild conditions.

Abstract
Reaction of 1,3-dipropoxy-p-tert-butyl-calix[4]arene (L(1)H2) with KN(SiMe3)2 afforded a one-dimensional (1D) chain complex [K2L(1)]n (1). Upon reaction with 1 equivalent 18-crown-6, complex 1 can convert to complex [K2(18-crown-6)L(1)] (2) which possesses a sandwich structure. Treatment of two calix[4]arene-crown ligands of 1,3-dihydroxy-p-tert-butyl-calix[4]arene-crown-5 (L(2)H2) and 1,2-dihydroxy-p-tert-butyl-calix[4]arene-crown-5 (L(3)H2) with KN(SiMe3)2 gave the dinuclear complex [K2L(2)] (3) and the mononuclear complex [K(THF)L(3)H] (4), respectively. Complexes 1-4 were all characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The variable temperature (1)H NMR spectrum indicates there is a quick rotation equilibrium of the two phenoxy groups in complex 3. In addition, complexes 1-4 have been tested for the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of rac-lactide and the results showed that complexes 2 and 3 are highly active for the ROP of rac-lactide. The obtained polymers displayed low dispersity values (Đ) and the molecular weights are close to the calculated ones. Furthermore, complexes 2 and 3 show moderate isoselectivities of Pm = 0.67 and Pm = 0.73, respectively.
