Abstract
In this study, (E)-4-{4-[(1-oxo-3,4-dihydronaphthalen-2(1H)-ylidene)methyl]phenoxy}phthalonitrile (4) and its phthalocyanine derivatives (5-8) were synthesized for the first time. Aggregation behaviors of the novel soluble phthalocyanines in organic solvents were investigated. In addition, the efficiency of 1O2 production of (5) and ZnPc (6) was investigated. The singlet oxygen quantum yields (ΦΔ) for 2HPc (5) and ZnPc (6) were found to be 0.58 and 0.83, respectively. Additionally, novel phthalocyanines (5-8) were investigated for their ability to inhibit enzymes. They exhibited a highly potent inhibition effect on human carbonic anhydrase I and II (hCA I and II) and α-glycosidase (α-Gly) enzymes. Ki values are in the range of 2.60 ± 9.87 to 11.53 ± 6.92 µM, 3.35 ± 0.53 to 15.47 ± 1.20 µM, and 28.60 ± 4.82 to 40.58 ± 7.37 nM, respectively. The calculations of the studied molecule at the B3LYP, HF, and M062X levels in the 6-31G basis sets were made using the Gaussian package program. Afterward, the interactions occurring in the docking calculation against a protein that is the crystal structure of hCA I (PDB ID: 2CAB), the crystal structure of hCA II (PDB ID: 5AML), and the crystal structure of α-Gly (PDB ID: 1R47), were examined. Following that, Protein-Ligand Interaction Profiler (PLIP) analysis was used to look at the interactions that occurred during the docking calculation in further detail.

Abstract
The inhibition effect of symmetrical Ball - type Zinc Phthalocyanine on Aluminum in 1mol/L hydrochloric acid was analyzed by electrochemical techniques. A novel ball-type zinc phthalocyanine (Zn-Pc) inhibitor has been synthesized and verified utilizing FTIR, nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR and 13C NMR), MALDI-TOF MS, and absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis). In addition, laser-induced breakdown and photoluminescence spectroscopy were employed for additional study. Weight loss technique was employed to investigate the corrosion inhibition effectiveness of the synthesized Zn-Pc on Aluminum in 1mol/L hydrochloric acid at the range of variation temperatures (293-333 K). The inhibition efficiency of Zn-Pc increased with higher concentrations of Zn-Pc and decreased as the temperature increased. Furthermore, Zn-Pc demonstrated outstanding outcomes, achieving 72.9% at a very low inhibitor concentration (0.4 mmol/L) at 298 K. The experimental data for Zn-Pc Aluminum in 1mol/L hydrochloric acid obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Moreover, the corrosion system's thermodynamic parameters and activation energy were determined. Quantum chemical calculations applying the (DFT) Density Functional Theory method was conducted and applied in this study. These calculations played a pivotal role in elucidating molecular structures and reactivity patterns. Through DFT, numerous reactivity indicators were computed, providing valuable insights into the chemical behavior of the studied compounds. These indicators, such as frontier molecular orbitals, electron density, and molecular electrostatic potential, were subsequently correlated with experimental data.

Abstract
Regeneration of terminal oxidants by molecular oxygen in metal-catalyzed oxidations of organic substrates has the advantage of avoiding the use of stoichiometric amounts of hazardous and/or expensive reagents to meet (some of) the green chemistry requirements. In the present study, photosensitized singlet oxygen oxidation of iodate to periodate has been used to regenerate the oxidant in polyoxometalate (POM)-catalyzed oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides with periodate in water. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first report on singlet oxygen oxidation of iodate to periodate. In order to determine the contribution of photooxidation and oxidation pathways in the formation of sulfoxide, the oxidation of diphenyl sulfide with a very low reactivity toward aerobic photooxidation was studied; a sevenfold increase in the conversion of the sulfide to the diphenyl sulfoxide was observed for the reaction conducted in the presence of H2TMPyP-PW12O40/IO3-/O2/hν compared to that in the presence of H2TMPyP-PW12O40/O2/hν. Also, under the same conditions, a ca. 1.5-fold increase was observed in the case of methyl phenyl sulfide, which shows high reactivity toward both the oxidation and photooxidation reactions. A porphyrin-POM nanocomposite formed by the electrostatic immobilization of meso-tetra(N-methylpyridinium-4-yl)porphyrin (H2TMPyP) on PW12O40 was employed for the one-pot oxidation and photooxidation reactions. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), diffuse-reflectance UV-vis spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, and Fourier transform infrared were used to characterize the formation of the hybrid compound. An average particle size of 42 nm was estimated for H2TMPyP-PW12O40 from XRD peak broadening using the Scherrer equation. Also, FESEM images showed the formation of nearly spherical nanoparticles with a size of ca. 200 nm. The redshift of the Soret band of H2TMPyP upon immobilization on POM was attributed to strong N-H···O hydrogen-bond interactions between POM and porphyrin.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of neutral zinc and indium substituted mercaptobenzothiazole substituted phthalocyanines (Pcs) and their respective cationic derivatives are presented. The phthalocyanines were further covalently linked to two differently shaped amino-functionalized ZnO nanoparticles (ZnONPs): namely nanospheres (NH2-ZnONSp), and nanopyramids (NH2-ZnONPy), to form corresponding nanoconjugates. The photophysicochemical properties of each nanocomposite were determined, and the Pc-ZnONPs produced high singlet oxygen quantum yields. The photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy activity was determined using planktonic and biofilm cells of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Escherichia coli (E. coli), and Candida albicans (C. albicans). The conjugates of the cationic Pc derivatives with ZnONPy produced the highest log reduction values (∼ 8 and above) with the complete elimination of all planktonic cells at 0.45 kJ/cm2 for S. aureus and at 0.9 kJ/cm2 for E. coli, and C. albicans. For biofilms log reduction values >3 for both S. aureus and E. coli were obtained. The conjugates of the cationic Pc derivatives with NH2-ZnONPy showed great potential in eradicating mixed microbial biofilms.

Abstract
In recent years, much effort has been devoted to the development of effective anticancer agents. In this manner, the utilization of water-soluble sulfonated phthalocyanines is crucial for many cancer cell lines. In this study, phthalonitrile and metallophthalocyanine compounds linked by benzenesulfonic acid groups have been prepared. Antimicrobial behaviors of those compounds were investigated by performing disk diffusion and photodynamic assays on gram-positive and negative bacteria. Indium phthalocyanine (InClPc) (3) showed inhibition activity against B. cereus, B. subtilis and S. aureus with disk diffusion assay. Also, gallium and indium phthalocyanines (2 and 3) exhibited inhibitory activity on both gram-positive and -negative microorganisms after light activation. Increasing the inhibitor concentration and light exposure time increased the inhibition activity for both molecules. GaClPc (2) demonstrated the maximum reducing power capacity among studied compounds, and CoPc (4) showed even better DPPH radical scavenging ability than the standard molecule Trolox at 2000 µg mL-1 concentration. The dose-dependent effect of compounds on cytotoxicity was studied against cancer cells PANC-1, MDA-MB-231, HepG2, A549, HeLa, CaCo-2 and non-tumorigenic cells HEK-293. All compounds showed no significant cytotoxic effect on any cell line up to the highest treated concentration at 50 µg mL-1 . However, all phthalocyanines had significant nitric oxide inhibition activity, and only in copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) (5), the MTT IC50 value was reached on LPS-activated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. The lowest inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) IC50 values were defined as 6 ± 1 μg mL-1 and 7 ± 0.5 μg mL-1 for CuPc (5) and InClPc (3), respectively.

Abstract
New asymmetrical porphyrin derivatives containing a p-hydroxyphenyl moiety and p-acetylphenyl moieties along with their functionalized silver-detonation nanodiamonds nanohybrids were characterized and their photophysicochemical properties were established. The study provides evidence that the metalated porphyrin derivatives were red-shifted in absorption wavelength and possessed high singlet oxygen quantum yield comparative to the unmetalated core, thus making them suitable agents for photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy. As a result of conjugation to detonation nanodiamonds and silver nanoparticles, these compounds proved to be more effective as they exhibited stronger antibacterial and anti-biofilm activities on the multi-drug resistant S. aureus strain due to synergetic effect, compared to Ps alone. This suggests that the newly prepared nanohybrids could be used as a potential antimicrobial agent in the treatment of biofilms caused by S. aureus strain.

High singlet oxygen quantum yields in DMSO of 0.69 and 0.72 for Pcs alone and 0.90 and 0.92 for 2@DNDs-CSAg and 3@DNDs-CSAg, respectively, were obtained. The photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy (PACT) activity of both phthalocyanines and nanoconjugates was tested against planktonic cells and biofilms of S. aureus. 2@DNDs-CSAg and 3@DNDs-CSAg caused effective killing with a log reduction of 9.74. In addition, PACT studies on single-species S. aureus biofilms were carried out with log reduction values of 5.12 and 5.27 at 200 μg mL-1 for 2@DNDs-CSAg and 3@DNDs-CSAg, respectively.

Abstract
Phthalocyanines have interesting optoelectronic properties but typically suffer from aggregation in aqueous solution, which can limit their applicability, especially in photodynamic therapy. In this study, indium(III) phthalocyanine peripherally substituted with eight triazolyl-containing phenoxy groups (InOAc) and its water-soluble analogue (Q-InOAc) were synthesised and structurally characterised. Heavy metal effects, exerted by the central indium ion, on the photosensitising and photophysical properties (singlet oxygen quantum yield, singlet state lifetime and quantum yield, and triplet state lifetime) were investigated in both DMF and D2O. Highly efficient generation of the triplet excited state (T1), induced by the incorporation of a large atom, enhanced singlet oxygen formation, as revealed by both chemical and physical methods. Correspondingly, the singlet oxygen quantum yield (ΦΔ) of Q-InOAc was 0.603 in DMF and 0.433 in D2O. These values are higher than those previously reported for the corresponding metal-free, Mg-based, and Zn-based water-soluble phthalocyanines (HH, Mg, and Zn). Consequently, Q-InOAc is expected to be an excellent photosensitiser for photodynamic therapy.

Abstract
Silver triangular nanoprisms were synthesized and conjugated to zinc (ZnPc) and indium (InPc) phthalocyanines prior to embedding in asymmetric membranes. Conjugation of nanoparticles increased triplet state and singlet oxygen quantum yields of the phthalocyanines as well as enhancing photodynamic antimicrobial chemotherapy (PACT) activity against bacteria (S. aureus). The ZnPc derivative showed higher PACT activity when compared to the InPc, possibly due to degradation of the latter in aqueous media.

Abstract
This work reports on the linkage of 2(3),9(10),16(17),23(24) tetrakis [(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl phenoxy) phthalocyaninato] zinc(II) (1) and indium(III) chloride (2) to gold speckled silica (GSS) nanoparticles via gold to sulphur (Au-S) and gold to nitrogen (Au-N) self-assembly to form the conjugates: 1-GSS and 2-GSS. The formed conjugates were characterized using microscopic and spectroscopic techniques, and the photophysicochemical properties and photodynamic therapy (PDT) activity against human breast adenocarcinoma cell line (MCF-7 cells) were studied. The conjugates afforded decrease in fluorescence quantum yields with corresponding increase in triplet and singlet oxygen quantum yields when compared to phthalocyanines alone. Singlet oxygen is cytotoxic to cancer cells hence it is important for PDT. The in vitro dark toxicity of complex 2 and 2-GSS against MCF-7 cells showed ≥93% viable cells within concentration ranges of 10-160 μg/mL. 2-GSS showed enhanced PDT activity with less than 50% viable cells at 80 μg/mL as compared to 2 and GSS alone which showed >60% viable cells within 10-160 μg/mL. The observed improvements in the PDT activity of 2-GSS could be attributed to the high singlet oxygen generation of 2-GSS compared to 2 alone in addition to the phototoxicity of GSS.
